Framer vs Wix: Which Website Builder Suits Your Site?

Framer suits designers and design-minded founders who want a polished, animated site and will publish on a Framer domain to start, with 1 GB of bandwidth on its Free plan. Wix suits small businesses that want a full drag-and-drop builder with thousands of templates and business tools, publishing free on a Wix URL until they connect a domain. Choose by who'll build and update the site.

Both builders let you publish a site without writing code, and both let you start free. They're aimed at different builders, though. I read Framer's plans page and Wix's plans page and FAQ, and the facts below are from those pages.

Framer: design-led sites

Framer's Free plan gives you 500 AI credits to try, a free Framer domain, 1 GB of bandwidth and the tools to design pages. Basic, for creative personal sites, adds your own custom domain, 2 CMS collections, 50 GB of bandwidth, built-in SEO and a monthly AI credit allowance, with a localisation add-on.

Pro is for growing professional sites, with more credits and higher limits, and Enterprise adds custom limits and dedicated support. Extra editors join on upgraded plans, and viewers are always free, which helps when a client wants to look but not touch.

Wix: an all-in-one business builder

Wix lets you create a site for free and choose a plan when you're ready. The Free plan includes web hosting, a drag and drop editor, no-code design features and thousands of templates, and your site lives on a Wix URL until you connect a custom domain.

Every upgraded plan includes a custom domain, hosting, AI creation tools and 24/7 customer care. Light gives a free domain for a year, 2 GB of storage, a light marketing suite and 2 site collaborators. Core moves to 50 GB of storage and adds eCommerce and scheduling tools for services.

Bandwidth against storage: reading the limits

Here's a detail that's easy to misread when you compare the two. Framer's plans are measured in bandwidth, the traffic your site serves, with 1 GB on Free and 50 GB on Basic. Wix's plans are measured in storage, the files you keep, with 2 GB on Light and 50 GB on Core. A portfolio with big images and steady traffic leans on bandwidth; a shop with lots of product photos leans on storage.

Both free plans publish on the builder's own address, so neither is the place for a business's main site long term.

Who each builder suits

Framer suits designers, agencies and startups who care about layout and motion and are comfortable with a designer's tool. Wix suits small businesses and service providers who want booking, selling and marketing in the same place, with a builder anyone on the team can use. My advice before you build

Think about who'll update the site in a year. If it's a designer, or you love fine control over layout, start on Framer's Free plan and publish one page. If it's you or a non-designer colleague, and you need bookings or a shop, start on Wix's Free plan with a template close to your business. Connect your own domain before you share the site widely.
