Does Instagram Pay in Nigeria? Every Earning Tool Checked

Instagram doesn't pay most creators in Nigeria directly. Nigeria isn't on the country list for Instagram Gifts, Subscriptions carry Meta's "may not be available to you yet" warning, and bonuses are invite-only, so Nigerian creators earn on Instagram mainly through brand partnerships, while Facebook Content Monetization is the Meta programme that lists Nigeria.

That's frustrating, especially when you see creators in Ghana talking about Gifts. But it's better to know exactly where you stand. Here's each tool, what Meta says about it, how to check your own account, and the rules that apply wherever you live.

Every rule and figure on this page comes from Meta's own Help Center pages, read as of October 2026.

Instagram's earning tools, one by one

Gifts

Gifts let viewers send Stars on your reels, and Instagram pays one US cent per Star. The rules: a professional account, 18 or older, at least 500 followers, a payout account, and living in a listed country. Nigeria isn't on the list. Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda are.

Badges

Badges are bought by supporters during your live videos. You need at least 10,000 followers, a professional account and to be 18 or older. The badges page doesn't publish a country list, so check whether badges appear in your settings once you pass 10,000.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions let followers pay a monthly price for exclusive content. Meta's page carries the line "This product or feature may not be available to you yet", and the way to know is simple: if Subscriptions appears in your professional dashboard under Monetization, it's open to you.

Bonuses

Bonuses are a test. Creators need an invitation, and invited creators activate them in the professional dashboard under Settings, then Bonuses.

What "may not be available to you yet" means

Read it literally: the tool exists, but it may not have reached your account yet. It's not a verdict on your content, and Meta's pages offer no way to request it. Instagram's Partner Monetization Policies add one more condition: you must live in a country where the product is available, and you can lose access if you move somewhere it isn't.

What changes when you pass 10,000 followers

Badges are the Instagram tool with no country list on Meta's page, so they're the one to watch as you grow. Supporters buy badges during your live, and their badge shows next to their name throughout the video. Instagram says it currently takes no revenue share on badges, while Apple and Google collect their in-app purchase fees. If one supporter buys multiple badges in a single live, their payments are capped at $250.

There are nice touches for your community too. Supporters who buy 3 or more badges get a glowing purple profile photo, questions from your biggest supporters move to the top of your live Q&A, and you can see who bought badges on each live for up to 90 days. If badges appear in your settings once you pass 10,000, you'll need a payout account before you can be paid.

What does pay Nigerian creators today

Brand partnerships are the Instagram income a Nigerian account can build on now, and Meta doesn't gate branded content by a country list on its getting-started page. Set up branded content tools by tapping Menu on your profile, then Creator tools and controls, then Branded content, then Set up branded content tools. If you're not eligible, you can request a review. Every paid post needs the paid partnership label, including gifted products.

On Facebook, Meta lists Nigeria for Content Monetization, which covers public reels in listed languages. English is listed; Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo aren't. Facebook Stars, on the other hand, doesn't list Nigeria.

The rules that apply wherever you live

  • Earn only from a natural, authentic audience. Fake likes, follows or views can cost you the ability to monetize.
  • Keep an authentic, established presence, including a sufficient follower base.
  • Follow Instagram's Community Standards and Content Monetization Policies, including on your profile photo and bio.
  • Politicians, candidates, parties and government bodies can't monetize at all.

If you're building for the day more tools reach Nigeria, these are the rules that decide whether your account is switched on first.

Another country worth comparing is India, so see Instagram rates per thousand views for Indian creators.

My verdict

Does Instagram pay in Nigeria? Not much directly, not yet. Brands do, and Facebook's Content Monetization list includes Nigeria, so build on those while you watch your dashboard. Keep your audience real and your payout details ready, and you'll be first in line when more tools arrive. My page on Instagram bonus eligibility explains the invite side, and freelancing in Nigeria is worth a read if you'd like to turn your content skills into client work.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram pay in Nigeria?

Not much directly. Nigeria isn't on the Instagram Gifts list, Subscriptions are still rolling out and bonuses are invite-only. Brand partnerships are open.

Why can creators in Ghana get Gifts but not in Nigeria?

Meta switches Gifts on country by country. Ghana is on its Gifts list and Nigeria isn't, and Meta's policies require you to live in a listed country.

How many followers do I need for Instagram badges?

At least 10,000, plus a professional account and being 18 or older. The badges page doesn't publish a country list.

Can I request Instagram Subscriptions in Nigeria?

There's no request button. If Subscriptions appears under Monetization in your professional dashboard, it's open to you.

Does it matter where my followers live?

Instagram's policies tie monetization to where you live. You must reside in a country where the tool is available, and you can lose access if you move to one where it isn't.

Is there a cap on what one supporter can pay in badges?

Yes. Payments from one supporter who buys multiple badges in a single live are capped at $250.

Does Facebook pay creators in Nigeria?

Meta lists Nigeria for Facebook Content Monetization on public reels in listed languages. Nigeria isn't on the Facebook Stars list.
