Volume Booster Chrome Extension Options (2026): 9 Compared

A volume booster Chrome extension raises the sound in a browser tab past Chrome's usual maximum, and several also add a bass boost or an equaliser. So many share almost the same name that the publisher, the users count and the ratings count are what tell them apart. Nine follow in no particular order.

Search the Chrome Web Store for a way to make a quiet tab louder and you'll get a wall of near-identical names built from the same three words: volume, sound and booster. The name won't help you choose, so this page leans on what each listing shows under it: who offers it, how many users it has, how many ratings and when it was last updated.

The nine below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, with every store number as of Oct 2026. If the audio itself is the problem rather than the volume, my guide to cleaning up audio with AI for free might fix it at the source.

Nine volume and sound boosters side by side

Type and Good for come from each listing's own description. Yes in the last column means the listing itself says the extension is free; Not stated means it doesn't say either way, as of Oct 2026.

Nine Chrome extensions that make tabs louder

Simple Volume Booster

Best for: A plain volume control with a bass booster from an individual developer, Dennis Rice, for people who want the basics only.

Sound Booster that Works

Best for: Turning up quiet tabs with an extension offered by sound2up.com, whose listing shows one of the higher averages among these nine.

Sound Booster: increase volume up

Best for: Boosting video and music in any tab with volume, bass and equaliser controls together, from the publisher sound-ultimate.com.

Sound Booster: Max Volume and Deep Bass

Best for: Streaming fans who watch YouTube or Twitch in Chrome and want the sound louder with more bass, from the publisher Mildred Guy.

Volume Booster

Best for: Getting sound past the usual maximum from the listing offered by volumebooster.xyz, which says on its store page that it's free to use.

Volume Booster 1000

Best for: Anyone comparing smaller listings, though this one shows no publisher name on its store page and a last update on March 28, 2024.

Volume Booster: Increase sound

Best for: Amplifying sound on any website with a bass booster added, from the publisher Volume App., whose listing says it's free.

Volume Booster: Sound and Bass boost

Best for: An equaliser and bass booster alongside the volume control, from a publisher whose listing says the extension is free.

Volume Sound Booster

Best for: Trying an audio amplifier from a publisher listed only by the handle peterp25926, with a smaller ratings count than most here.

Telling near-identical volume extensions apart

Users and ratings don't move together. Sound Booster that Works shows 1.1K ratings on 90,000 users, while Volume Booster 1000 shows 7 ratings on 9,000 users, as of Oct 2026. The two biggest listings both show 3,000,000 users, yet one has 4.8K ratings and the other 14.4K.

Ratings run from 2 to 4.8 across the nine, and last updated dates run from March 28, 2024 to October 20, 2026. Two publishers here are even one dot apart, VolumeApp and Volume App., so read the Offered by line letter by letter.

Which kind of volume extension to choose

  • You only need quiet tabs louder: pick a plain booster from a publisher you can identify.
  • Music sounds thin: pick one whose listing adds a bass booster.
  • You like to shape the sound: pick one with an equaliser on its listing.
  • You want a big user base behind it: compare users and the ratings count together, not the star average alone.
  • Two names look identical: go by the Offered by line, not the title.

Before you push a tab past its maximum

  1. Read the Offered by line and the last updated date on the listing.
  2. Check what access the extension asks for when you add it.
  3. Start with the boost low and raise it slowly, especially through headphones, because loud sound for long stretches isn't kind to your hearing.
  4. Remove any booster you stop using, so it isn't sitting in your browser for no reason.

If you're boosting because you can't hear over the noise around you, a pair of noise cancelling headphones might solve it without any extension at all.

My plain advice on volume booster extensions

Choose by publisher, not by name. Find two or three listings that do what you need, then compare who offers them, the users count, the ratings count and the last updated date. If two of those look thin, keep scrolling. And whatever you pick, keep the boost sensible.

Frequently asked questions

What does a volume booster Chrome extension do?

Going by the listings here, it raises the sound in a Chrome tab past the browser's usual maximum. Several also add a bass booster or an equaliser.

Are volume booster extensions free?

Three of the nine listings here say they're free as of Oct 2026. The others don't say either way, so check the listing before you add one.

Why do so many volume boosters have the same name?

Many publishers use the same few words in their titles, so the name alone won't tell you who made it. Look at the Offered by line on the listing.

Which volume booster has the most users?

Two listings here show 3,000,000 users each as of Oct 2026. Users alone don't tell you much, so compare the ratings count and the last updated date too.

Is it safe to boost volume past the maximum?

Be careful with headphones. Start low and raise the boost slowly, because loud sound for long periods isn't good for your hearing.
