Best AI Tools for UX Designers (2026): 9 Compared

The best AI tools for UX designers speed up the slow parts of product design: first wireframes, screen generation, research synthesis, attention testing and colour choices. Most hand you an editable starting point rather than a finished design. Nine options follow in no particular order.

A blank artboard is the slowest moment in a design project. Hours go into layouts that a stakeholder will change in the first review anyway, and that's before anyone's tested them.

These nine tools shorten that early stretch and the research around it. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. For more ways to move faster, my tips to speed up the UX design process pair well with any of them.

AI tools for UX work at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names a free plan, a free version, a free account or a free way to start. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to try it, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

Nine AI tools for UX and UI design

Attention Insight

Best for: Designers who want AI heatmaps that predict where people look on a site, ad or product before it goes live, with a 14-day trial.

Dovetail

Best for: UX researchers who want interviews and feedback classified into themes, shareable AI docs and digital twins of customer segments.

Framer

Best for: Designers who want to go from layout to live website with an AI design agent and hosting, without handing off to a developer.

Khroma

Best for: Visual designers who want to train an AI on the colours they like and get endless palettes to search and save.

Maze

Best for: Product teams who want prototype tests, surveys and AI-moderated interviews with automated reports from one research platform.

Relume

Best for: Web designers and agencies who want an AI website builder made specifically for building marketing websites faster.

Uizard

Best for: Founders and product managers who want to turn ideas, screenshots or text prompts into editable wireframes and mockups.

UX Pilot

Best for: Product designers who want AI to generate editable screens and complete flows, then carry them into working prototypes.

Visily

Best for: Teams where non-designers need to wireframe and prototype ideas that look as good as they sound, with AI help and templates.

Where each tool fits in the design process

  • Wireframes from a prompt or screenshot: Uizard or Visily.
  • Screens and full flows: UX Pilot.
  • Marketing websites built with AI: Relume.
  • Designing and publishing a live site: Framer.
  • Predicting where people look: Attention Insight.
  • Prototype tests and interviews: Maze.
  • Research synthesis: Dovetail.
  • Colour palettes: Khroma.

The accessibility bar AI-made screens still have to clear

The GOV.UK Service Manual says that to meet government accessibility requirements, digital services must meet level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, or WCAG, 2.2 as a minimum, and work on the most commonly used assistive technologies, including screen magnifiers, screen readers and speech recognition tools.

AI-generated screens look polished long before they're accessible. Contrast, focus order, labels and target sizes still need a person checking them against WCAG 2.2, whether you work for government or not, because that's the standard many clients now write into briefs.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Generate, test or synthesise?

Generators turn prompts, sketches or screenshots into editable wireframes and screens. They'll save the most time at the very start of a project, when you've got nothing on the page.

Testing tools put designs in front of users or predict attention before launch. They help you argue for a change with evidence instead of opinion.

Synthesis tools sort interviews and feedback into themes. They're the quiet time-saver for teams running a lot of research, and they don't get bored on the fortieth transcript.

What to check before an AI design tool joins your stack

  1. Does it export to Figma or your main design tool?
  2. Can it use your own design system and components?
  3. How editable is the output, layer by layer?
  4. Where are research recordings and notes stored?
  5. Does it help or hurt accessibility out of the box?
  6. Can the whole team use it, or only designers?

Signs your design process is stuck at the start

  • Kick-off meetings end with no layouts. Generate rough options.
  • Research notes go unread. Sort them into themes.
  • Stakeholders argue on taste. Test attention instead.
  • Palettes take an afternoon. Let AI suggest some.

Do you make AI tools for UX designers? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My advice for UX designers adding AI

Use AI for the first draft and the boring sorting, and keep the judgement for yourself. Generate three rough directions, throw two away and design the third one with care. That's where the time saving is, not in shipping what the tool made.

If prototyping is your bottleneck, my round-up of the best AI prototyping tools goes deeper on that stage.

Frequently asked questions

Will AI replace UX designers?

No. AI can draft screens and sort research, but understanding users, making trade-offs and defending decisions is still the job.

Can AI create wireframes?

Yes. Several tools here turn prompts, sketches or screenshots into editable wireframes you can refine.

Are AI-generated designs accessible?

Not automatically. Check every screen against WCAG 2.2, which the GOV.UK Service Manual sets at level AA as the minimum for government services.

Which AI tools help with user research?

Look for tools that run tests, moderate interviews or sort feedback into themes, rather than tools that only generate screens.

Are there free AI tools for UX designers?

A few name a free plan and some offer trials. The free plan column above shows what each vendor's site said when I checked.

Do these tools work with Figma?

Many export to or plug into Figma. Check each vendor's integrations before you build a workflow around one.
