Best AI Consultants in Australia (2026): Pick by Company Size

I'm Lilach Bullock, an AI implementation consultant, and this is my shortlist of AI consultants for Australian businesses. The right one depends on your headcount and your tech stack: Mantel for enterprise, Arinco for Microsoft organisations, Hourglass AI for 20 to 100 people. I wrote this page and I've included myself, working remotely.

Size is the quickest filter in this market. A firm built for a bank will find a twelve-person business awkward to serve, and the reverse is also true, so find your row before you read any further.

Which size are you?

You'll notice the large global firms aren't here. You already know their names, and this page is for the buyer who wants to see further than that.

Each description below comes from the firm's own site as of Nov 2026, so where a firm makes a claim, I've told you it's theirs. I'm reporting what they say and who it seems built for, and you should test the rest yourself.

Enterprise and government: Mantel

Mantel calls itself Australia's leading technology and AI consultancy, with 900+ specialists in AI, data, cloud, digital and cyber security, and that's its own description. It operates across Australia, New Zealand and APAC, says it's Australia and New Zealand owned, and lists banking and finance, healthcare, insurance, the public sector and retail as its industries. The customers it names include REA, MYOB, Lendi and Origin. That breadth is the appeal for a large organisation, and because it's built for enterprise programmes, a small team may feel like an outlier.

Already on the Microsoft stack: Arinco

Arinco describes itself as a "Frontier Partner for AI on Microsoft", helping organisations become Frontier Firms on Microsoft. Its capabilities run through AI transformation, intelligent apps, data, platforms and workplace, plus modern work and security, across education, financial services, government, healthcare, professional services, retail, utilities and resources. If your business already runs on Microsoft, that focus is the draw. It's Microsoft-centred by design, so it's a less obvious first call if you're still deciding which tools to use.

Mid-sized teams who want things built: Team 400

Team 400 positions itself as AI agent builders and AI consultants, with .NET and React software work too, and lists offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Its services include AI strategy, AI delivery, custom AI solutions, Microsoft AI and Azure AI consulting, and training, with Claude and Copilot training events on its site. It says it helps teams work out where AI and technology fit through strategy, discovery, training and workshops. It suits mid-sized and larger organisations that want agents built and staff trained by the same people, and because it's engineering-led, you'll get more build than coaching.

Smaller businesses: Synap and Hourglass AI

Both talk to smaller companies, and they start in different places: Synap with a free consultation and readiness resources, Hourglass AI with an audit and a roadmap.

Synap

Synap describes itself as Melbourne's AI consulting company, wholly Australian-owned, offering custom AI agents, workflow automation and AI strategy. It also lists an AI readiness assessment, custom software and an AI phone receptionist, with an AI playbook and a readiness snapshot as free resources and a free initial consultation. For a small or mid-sized Melbourne business, that's an easy way to find out if there's a fit. The offer's productised, so check how closely a package matches the way your business runs.

Hourglass AI

Hourglass AI states its focus as AI implementation for 20 to 100 person Australian companies. It says audit to roadmap takes 14 days and that it publishes its prices upfront, so you can check them before you get on a call. Case studies on its site span property, recruitment, fitness and venture capital in Sydney and Melbourne. The size band is narrow on purpose, so if you're outside it you'll want to ask how well the method carries over.

Owner-led businesses: Lilach Bullock, and yes, that's me

I wrote this page, so here's my own entry, with the bias declared. I work with Australian owners and marketing teams remotely, with live sessions timed for Australian mornings, and I'm British, based in Israel. My background is 23 years in marketing, and in 2024 I went all in on AI and rebuilt my consultancy around practical workflow implementation for marketing leaders and founders who aren't technical. Part of that work is AI SEO for Australian businesses: getting named when buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews who to use.

Where I sit

Don't take my placement on trust. Look at what I've run on my own business.

In January 2026 my site had 1,322 Google clicks a month, and by September it had 6,412. AI assistants sent 32 visits a month at the start of that stretch and 3,599 at the end. The numbers are my own Search Console and GA4 data, written up in my AI SEO case study. It shows I test this stuff on myself first. It can't promise you the same curve, because your site and your market aren't mine.

Clients have included IBM, Twitter, Dropbox, monday.com and Greenpeace, and I send a weekly newsletter to 15,000 subscribers. You'd work with me directly. If you need a team of engineers on a large programme, go to one of the firms above, and I'd tell you that on the first call. Other independents are out there as well, and they deserve the same questions.

Questions to ask before you sign

Put the same five to everyone you talk to, me included. The gaps between the answers will tell you more than the pitch decks. I've got a longer set of questions for an AI consultant if five isn't enough.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  1. What have you shipped that's still running? Ask to see it live, with the numbers from before and after. A polished demo isn't the same thing.
  2. Who'll do the work? The person selling to you and the person building for you may not be the same, and at a larger firm that's normal. You just want to meet the builder before you commit.
  3. What will my team be able to run without you? Some buyers want it done for them and that's fine, but you should know which one you're paying for.
  4. What would you tell me not to automate? If a business only runs a handful of transactions a week, automation often won't earn its keep yet. Anyone who can't name a case like that is selling, not advising.
  5. Which tools does your advice assume? A Microsoft specialist and an independent can give you different answers to the same question, and both may be sensible. Find out what's behind the recommendation.

Here's what I'd do with the answers. I'd talk to one firm in your size band and one just below it, because the smaller one often shows you what you don't need to buy, and I'd skip anyone who can't tell you who'll be doing the work. For a wider view of the market beyond Australia, I've also compared enterprise firms, agencies and independents.

Time zones and remote work

Some Australian owners want someone they can sit across a table from, and that's a fair preference. Team 400 lists offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Synap's in Melbourne, and Hourglass AI's case studies sit in Sydney and Melbourne, so you've got options if that matters.

If it doesn't, location matters less than you'd think, because the work itself sits on your website and in your tools. My own setup is simple. Australia spans several time zones, so we pick a morning slot that suits your team whether you're on the east coast or in Western Australia, and the work carries on in shared documents between calls. Being outside a capital city changes nothing.

If your project depends on someone watching people work on site, hire someone local. If you'd like to see how I'd approach yours, my AI consultant page for Australia has the detail.

If you run an owner-led Australian business and you want AI saving hours in your marketing and admin, I can help remotely. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the best AI consultants in Australia?

That depends mostly on your size. Large enterprises and government can start with Mantel, Microsoft organisations with Arinco, and mid-sized teams wanting agents built with Team 400. Synap serves Melbourne businesses and Hourglass AI serves companies of 20 to 100 people. I'm Lilach Bullock, I wrote this list, and I've included myself for owner-led businesses that are happy working remotely.

Should a small Australian business hire a big consultancy or an independent?

Usually an independent or a small specialist firm, because a firm built for enterprise programmes won't be set up around a small team. The risk with an independent is relying on one person, so check what they've shipped. And if you've got only a handful of transactions a week, you may not need either yet.

Does an AI consultant need to be in Australia?

Not for most of the work, which happens on your website, in your tools and in shared documents. Live sessions need a time that suits both sides, so ask about that up front. If the job depends on someone being on site, choose a local firm.

What should an AI consultant show me before I hire them?

Something they've built that's still running, its results before they touched it and since, and ideally what they've done on their own business. Ask who built it and what the team can now do without them. A logo wall or a list of tools doesn't answer any of that.

How do AI assistants decide which consultants to name?

They draw on pages they can read and trust, including lists, directories and pages that say plainly what a business does and who it serves. So treat an AI answer as a place to start your shortlist, then check each name yourself.

What's a good first AI project for an Australian small business?

Pick one repeated task. The reliable wins are lead follow-up, admin, content drafting and reporting. Start with whichever one eats the most hours, and expand only once it's saving time. A consultant who opens by proposing ten projects at once hasn't understood the job.
