As of October 2026, Apple Music costs $11.99 a month for Individual, $19.99 a month for Family and $6.99 a month for Student in the US. In the UK it's £11.99, £19.99 and £5.99 a month.
Apple Music has three plans, and each Apple country site sets its own price. Below are the figures from Apple's own Apple Music pages for the US, UK, Australia and Canada, plus the free trial rules and the student perk most people don't know about.
Apple Music prices by country
| Plan | US | UK | Australia | Canada |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | $11.99 | £11.99 | A$14.99 | CA$11.99 |
| Family (up to 6 people) | $19.99 | £19.99 | A$23.99 | CA$19.99 |
| Student | $6.99 | £5.99 | A$7.99 | CA$5.99 |
All three plans renew monthly until you cancel. Apple Music is also included in Apple One bundles, which Apple says start at $21.95 a month in the US.
What the Family plan includes
The Family plan lets up to six people use Apple Music, and Apple says each person gets their own personal account. Apple says it needs Family Sharing, which you set up on an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Mac before inviting family members to join.
For any household with two or more listeners, Family usually works out better than separate Individual plans. In the US, two Individual plans cost more than one Family plan.
Apple Music Student: the plan with a bonus
The Student plan is the cheapest way into Apple Music, and in the US it comes with a perk. Apple says students get 1 month of Apple Music free plus access to Apple TV. A few rules from Apple's page:
- It's for verified college students only, and the US page says the free Apple TV access ends when you no longer qualify or don't renew.
- Once your student status is verified, you get student pricing for up to four years, as long as you remain a student.
- After four years, your membership continues at the Individual price.
- The student offer doesn't extend to a Family Sharing group.
- In the UK and Australia it's for university students, and in Canada for post secondary students.
Apple Music free trials
How long you get free depends on how you sign up:
- New subscribers: 1 month free on Individual, Family or Student, then the monthly price.
- With a new eligible audio device: Apple says new subscribers can get three months free. You redeem it after pairing the device to an iPhone or iPad running the latest iOS or iPadOS, and you've got three months from the device's first activation to claim it.
- With a new iPhone, iPad or Mac: Apple advertises 3 months of Apple One free, which includes Apple Music.
Every trial renews automatically until you cancel, so note the date. My guide to the Apple Music free trial walks through the details.
Apple Music Classical comes free
A useful extra: Apple Music Classical, a separate app built for classical music, is included with the Individual, Family and Student plans and with Apple One at no additional cost. If anyone in your house listens to classical music, it's a reason to choose Apple Music over a rival.
Apple Music or Apple One?
If Apple Music isn't the only Apple subscription in your home, look at Apple One before you pay. Apple's Apple Music page says Apple One bundles Apple Music with up to five other services, and lists three US plans in the small print: $21.95, $27.95 or $39.95 a month depending on the plan you pick.
In the UK those plans are £18.95, £24.95 or £36.95 a month, and in Australia A$24.95, A$34.95 or A$52.95. If you already pay for iCloud+ storage or Apple TV, a bundle can work out cheaper than paying for each one separately. If Apple Music is the only service you use, though, a bundle just adds things you won't open.

Why prices differ between countries
Apple sets each country's price in local currency on its own regional site, which is why Australia's Individual plan shows as A$14.99 while Canada's is CA$11.99. Always check the Apple page for your own country before you compare plans, rather than relying on a figure you've seen quoted from somewhere else.
How to choose your Apple Music plan
- If you're a verified student, start with Student. It's the lowest price and, in the US, adds Apple TV.
- If two or more people in your home want Apple Music, set up Family Sharing and take the Family plan.
- If you also pay for iCloud+, Apple TV or Apple Arcade, compare Apple One before buying Apple Music on its own.
- Use a free trial if you're eligible, and set a reminder before it renews.
- Otherwise, Individual is the plan for a single listener.

My verdict
Apple Music at $11.99 or £11.99 a month is in line with its main rivals, so the choice comes down to your devices and your household. Students should always take the Student plan, especially in the US with Apple TV thrown in. Families should take the Family plan rather than stacking Individual accounts. And if you already pay for two or more Apple services, check Apple One first, because it may give you Apple Music for less.
