Airwallex Alternatives (2026): 11 Global Business Accounts

The best Airwallex alternatives depend on what you mainly do with money across borders: freelancers and startups want an international account for sending and receiving, ecommerce sellers want local receiving accounts, and platforms want payout infrastructure built into their product. Eleven providers follow, and the deciding question is where your customers and suppliers are.

Global business accounts have made paying overseas suppliers and collecting money from international clients far easier. But each provider is strongest in different countries, and the account that suits a US startup may not suit an Indian exporter or a UK online shop.

The eleven providers below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the provider's own website, read this week. If you're still choosing a main business account, my guide to online business bank accounts covers the basics.

Airwallex alternatives at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names a free plan, a free version, a free account or an open source version. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start for free, so check the provider's page before you sign up.

A business account isn't always a bank account

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) says nonbank companies themselves are never FDIC-insured, and money you send to one isn't eligible for FDIC insurance until it's deposited in an insured bank and other conditions are met.

So ask any provider where your balance sits and how it's protected in your country. Rules differ between the US, the UK and elsewhere, and the answer matters if you hold large sums.

Receiving, sending or both?

Some providers shine at receiving money from marketplaces and clients abroad. Others are built for paying suppliers, staff and contractors in many countries.

If you do both, look at the countries where you send and receive most, and check each provider supports local details there. That usually matters more than the list of features.

Questions to ask before you open an account

  1. Which countries can I receive local payments from?
  2. Can I pay suppliers in the money they use locally?
  3. How is my balance held and protected?
  4. Does it connect to my accounting software?
  5. Are cards available for my team?
  6. What checks will I need to pass to open it?

Signs you need a different payments setup

  • Clients abroad struggle to pay you. Get local receiving details.
  • Supplier payments take days. Try batch payments.
  • Your accountant chases statements. Connect your accounting software.
  • You hold large balances. Check how they're protected.

Do you make business payment or international account services? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on choosing a global business account

Map where your money comes from and goes to, then shortlist the providers strongest in those countries. Open the account before you need it, because business checks can take time.

Keep your main business bank account too, and use a global account for international payments rather than putting everything in one place. My guide to opening a business account online walks through the paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Airwallex?

It depends on where you do business. Some providers suit freelancers and startups, others suit ecommerce sellers or platforms building payouts into their product.

Is a global business account the same as a bank account?

Not always. The FDIC says nonbank companies are never FDIC-insured themselves, so ask how each provider holds and protects your money.

Can I receive payments from marketplaces abroad?

Many providers offer local receiving details for marketplaces and clients in several countries. Check the countries you need.

Do these accounts connect to accounting software?

Many do. Check each provider's integrations before you open an account.

How long does it take to open a business account?

It varies, because providers run business checks. Open one before you need it rather than in a rush.

Can my team get cards?

Some providers issue cards for team spending. Check each provider's page for card options in your country.
