Chime Alternatives (2026): 10 Banking Apps and Online Banks

Chime alternatives are app-first accounts and online banks that offer checking, savings and early access to wages from your phone. They split three ways: US neobank apps, digital accounts from established online banks, and international apps whose pages serve the UK or Europe. Ten options follow in no particular order.

Here's the short version. Most people searching for Chime alternatives want the same basics: an account they run from their phone, wages a little early, and as few charges as possible. Where they differ is what sits on top, from cash advances to credit building to branches you can walk into.

The ten options below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each provider's own website, read as of Oct 2026. Nothing here is financial advice, so check the terms on the provider's own site before you move money.

Chime alternatives at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means it names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

An old green bank is now GreenFi, and other things the pages show

Here's what stood out reading the provider pages. Aspiration's account page now sits under a new brand, GreenFi, after a company called Mission Financial Partners bought the fintech arm of the business behind the old name. If you're searching the old name, that's where you'll land.

Dave's home page leads with its ExtraCash advance and puts the checking account second, and the small print says you must open an ExtraCash overdraft account as well. Revolut's page loaded as its UK site and N26's as its EU site, so if you're in the US, confirm you can open an account before you download anything.

App-first neobank, online bank or international app?

  • App-first accounts. Built around the phone, often with early wage access, credit building and cash advances on top of checking. Check which bank holds the deposits; one provider here names Coastal Community Bank as its FDIC-insured partner.
  • Established online banks. A bigger bank's digital accounts, with savings, CDs and wider ATM access. One of them also runs branches and cafes you can visit.
  • International apps. These lead with global spending and quick transfers, but the pages I read were UK and EU sites, so US availability is the first thing to confirm.

Five checks before you move your direct deposit

  1. Who holds your money? Look for the partner bank's name and the deposit insurance line on the provider's own site.
  2. Is the advance tied to another account? Some cash advances need a separate account opened alongside checking.
  3. How early do wages arrive? Several apps offer early access, but the timing depends on when your employer sends payroll.
  4. Does it build credit? A few apps pair the account with a card designed to build your credit history.
  5. Will you need cash? If you deposit cash or use ATMs a lot, check the ATM network before you switch.

A payment app isn't the same as a bank account, and the difference matters when something goes wrong. My guide Is Cash App legit? covers that side.

My plain advice on choosing a Chime alternative

Start with how you use your account day to day. If you mostly want wages early and a small advance now and then, an app-first account fits, but read the conditions behind the advance before you rely on it. If you want savings, CDs and a bank you can call 24/7, an established online bank is the steadier choice. And don't move your direct deposit until the new account is open and tested with a small transfer.

Looking at a prepaid-style account instead? My review Is GO2bank legit? walks through how that one works, and my list of budgeting apps helps once your money has a new home.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good alternative to Chime?

It depends on what you use it for. App-first accounts suit early wage access and small advances, established online banks suit savings and support, and international apps suit spending abroad if they serve your country.

Which banking apps offer cash advances?

Several app-first accounts on this list offer advances alongside checking. Read the conditions first, because some require a separate account or qualifying deposits.

Are online bank accounts FDIC insured?

Many are, usually through a partner bank. Look for the partner bank's name and the FDIC line on the provider's own site before you move money.

Can I use a UK or European banking app in the US?

Not always. The international pages on this list loaded as UK and EU sites, so check the provider's US availability before you sign up.

How do I switch my direct deposit to a new account?

Open and test the new account first, then update your payroll details with your employer, and keep the old account open until the first deposit lands in the new one.
