On this resource page, you can find out the definition of blogging, what purpose it has, and see some great resources to lead you on your content journey.

What is blogging?

In a simple definition, the process of writing a blog post is called blogging. This whole strategy is more complex than you may think. The content writer, or blogger, in this case, has to equip the website page with instruments to create and post content easier while also linking and sharing it online.

What is the purpose of blogging? Benefits of owning a blog

Blogging has become an online trend, a way to communicate thoughts, facts, and a great source of new information. Blogs can help with:

  • Important updates from companies directly to their customers.
  • Brings more people to your website, hence you get more traffic.
  • Brand awareness and trust.
  • Developing content on a certain topic of great interest through which people can interact with your brand. This will lead to loyal followers.
  • Earning money, after you have successfully reached a great number of visitors that read your posts daily

Blogging in the age of AI overviews: what changed in 2026

Blogging didn't die in 2026, but the reason to do it changed completely. For fifteen years the deal was simple: write a post, rank on Google, get clicks. That deal is broken. AI Overviews and AI-generated summaries now answer most informational questions directly in the search results, before anyone reaches a blog at all. Click-through rates on standard "how to" and "what is" queries have dropped hard, and that trend isn't reversing.

What this means in practice is that blogging has split into two very different jobs, and most businesses are still only doing the old one.

  • Job one: getting cited, not clicked. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI summaries pull from blogs to build their answers. If your content is clear, specific, and easy to lift a sentence from, you get cited as a source even when the reader never visits your site. That's brand exposure, not traffic, and you need to stop measuring it by pageviews.
  • Job two: owning an audience Google can't intercept. Blogs that feed an email list, a community, or a paid newsletter still work exactly as well as they ever did, because that relationship doesn't route through a search engine at all.

The content that gets cited by AI systems and the content that ranks in classic search are no longer quite the same thing. Answer engines favour posts with a clear direct answer near the top, defined terms, comparisons, and numbers they can quote cleanly. Generic 1500-word "ultimate guides" that circle the topic for three paragraphs before saying anything get skipped over, because there's nothing quotable in the first screen.

The other big shift is volume. AI tools made it trivial to publish ten posts a day, so search engines and readers are both drowning in mediocre, near-identical content. Google's response has been to hammer sites that publish generic, unverified material at scale, and to reward pages that show a real person said this, checked this, or tested this. A blog with no named author, no specifics, and no opinion reads as filler now, both to algorithms and to humans who've gotten used to spotting AI text on sight.

For a business, the practical takeaway is blunt: stop measuring blog success purely by organic sessions, because that number is structurally shrinking industry-wide regardless of your content quality. Start measuring citations, brand mentions in AI answers, newsletter signups from posts, and direct traffic from people who remembered your name. And write fewer, sharper posts with an actual point of view, because the ten-post-a-week content mill approach is now competing against infinite AI output and losing on cost every time.
