The tool people search for as YouTube Creator Studio is what YouTube's Help calls YouTube Studio, and you get to it by signing in to YouTube, clicking your profile picture and choosing YouTube Studio. You'll need to be signed in with the Google Account that owns the channel, and from there the left menu takes you to your dashboard, content, analytics, comments, subtitles and channel settings.
Here's the detail most guides skip: as of October 2026, YouTube Help doesn't have a single article titled Creator Studio. Every help page for the creator tool, on computer and on Android, uses the name YouTube Studio. So if you're searching the help centre for Creator Studio and getting nowhere, search for YouTube Studio instead and the right pages come up.
YouTube Help describes Studio as the home for creators: one place to manage your presence, grow your channel, talk to your audience and handle earnings. This page is the quick map of where Studio sits, how to get in and what you'll find once you're there.
How to sign in and open YouTube Studio
YouTube Help says you'll need a Google Account to sign in to YouTube at all. Once you have one, these are the steps the help pages give for getting into Studio on a computer:
- Go to YouTube and click Sign in in the top corner.
- Sign in with the Google Account that owns your channel.
- Click your profile picture, then select YouTube Studio. You can also go straight to YouTube Studio, which YouTube Help lists as the other way to open the dashboard.
- Studio opens on the Dashboard. Use the left menu to move around.
If you can't get signed in, YouTube Help points you to its accounts troubleshooting guide rather than anything inside Studio, because the problem sits with the Google Account, not the creator tool. To sign out, click your profile picture in the top corner and choose Sign out.
For browser-specific steps, I've covered opening YouTube Studio in Chrome separately, and if you're on a phone, see how to access YouTube Studio on mobile.
What each tab in the left menu does
Once you're in, YouTube Help says the left menu is where you manage your videos and your channel. Here's what each tab is for, in the order Help lists them:
| Left-menu tab (YouTube Help) | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | A high-level view of new activity on your channel, plus what's new on YouTube |
| Content | Your videos, live streams, posts and playlists |
| Analytics | Metrics and reports on how your channel and videos are performing |
| Community | Read and reply to comments, and see mentions other creators have made of your channel |
| Subtitles | Add subtitles and captions to your videos |
| Content detection | Submit copyright takedown requests |
| Earn | Monetization settings, shown if you're in the YouTube Partner Program |
| Customization | Your channel's layout, branding and basic info |
| Audio Library | Music and sound effects to use in your videos |
If a tab you expected isn't there, check the note on Earn: YouTube Help only describes it for channels in the YouTube Partner Program. You can also switch Studio to dark theme if you prefer it.
What you'll see on the Studio dashboard
The dashboard is the first screen after you sign in. YouTube Help describes it as an overview of your channel analytics, comments and more, laid out as a set of cards. The ones that matter most day to day:
- Channel Analytics: watch time, views and subscribers over the last 28 days, plus your current subscriber count and top videos.
- Latest content performance: how your newest video or live stream is doing. You can collapse it to hide ranking data, and it stays collapsed until you open it again.
- Channel violations: Community Guidelines warnings, strikes, or decisions on appeals.
- Important notifications: messages about your channel and videos.
- Latest comments: recent comments you haven't replied to yet.
- Known issues: ongoing YouTube incidents affecting lots of channels or users.
There are other cards too, covering news, new tools in Studio, ideas for your channel and recent subscribers. YouTube Help notes that some cards won't appear depending on your recent channel activity, so a quiet channel may see a shorter dashboard. For a closer look at each card, see my guide to the YouTube Studio dashboard.
What the Important notifications card covers
YouTube Help says this card can currently show monetization updates (whether your channel is approved, no longer eligible or not approved) and copyright updates (if you've received a copyright strike or claim). It also lists two things that won't show there yet: notifications about your AdSense for YouTube account and advertiser friendliness manual review results. For those, Help says to check your email.
Managing a single video inside Studio
To work on one video, YouTube Help says to go to the Content page and click the video's thumbnail, or use the search bar at the top of Studio to find it. That opens a set of video-level tabs:
| Video tab | What you can do there |
|---|---|
| Details | Change the title, description and settings |
| Analytics | See the metrics available for that video |
| Editor | Trim the video, add end screens and audio tracks, and blur parts of it |
| Comments | Read and reply to comments on that video |
| Subtitles | Add multi-language audio and translated titles and descriptions |
| Copyright | View and manage copyright claims |
| Clips | Create and manage clips |
While you're editing a single video, YouTube Help says you'll see that video's thumbnail in Studio, and clicking it opens the video's watch page. To jump to your channel homepage instead, click your profile picture and choose Your channel.
The hover shortcuts
YouTube Help also points out a time-saver: hover over certain info in Studio and small icons appear. View on YouTube opens the video, Analytics jumps to that video's numbers, Comments takes you to its comments, and Options shows more actions. They don't appear everywhere, only on some items, so it's worth hovering over a video row to see what's offered.

The YouTube Studio app and who can use it
There's a separate YouTube Studio app for Android, which YouTube Help says you download from Google Play. Two limits to know before you install it:
- The latest version of the app only works on Android 11.0 and up.
- You must be at least 13 years old to download and use the app.
YouTube Help has a matching iPhone and iPad version of the article too. If you're wondering whether there's an installable program for your computer, I've answered whether YouTube Studio has a desktop app on its own page.
Sending feedback about Studio
If something in Studio isn't working the way you'd expect, YouTube Help gives a short route for reporting it:
- At the top of the screen, select Help.
- In the left menu, select Send feedback.
- Type your feedback and select Send.
The dashboard also carries updates from the YouTube Creators and Creator Insider channels, along with a What's new in Studio card for the latest creator tools and features, so it's worth a glance when something looks different.
My advice on finding your way around Studio
My advice: stop hunting for Creator Studio and bookmark YouTube Studio itself, signed in with the account that owns the channel. If Studio shows the wrong channel, check which Google Account you're signed in with before anything else. Once you're in, I'd start with two tabs: the Dashboard for the 28-day snapshot and any violations or notifications, and Content for anything you want to change on a video. Everything else, from subtitles to the Audio Library, is a click away in that same left menu, and you don't need to learn it all on day one.
Frequently asked questions
Is YouTube Creator Studio the same as YouTube Studio?
YouTube's Help calls the creator tool YouTube Studio, and as of October 2026 its help pages use that name throughout. If you're searching for Creator Studio, YouTube Studio is the tool you want.
How do I log in to YouTube Studio?
Sign in to YouTube with the Google Account that owns your channel, click your profile picture and choose YouTube Studio. You can also go straight to YouTube Studio, and it opens on your dashboard.
Is there a YouTube Studio app?
Yes. YouTube Help says you can download the YouTube Studio app for Android from Google Play. The latest version needs Android 11.0 or newer, and you must be at least 13 to use it.
What can I do on the YouTube Studio dashboard?
The dashboard shows cards for your channel, including a 28-day Channel Analytics overview, latest content performance, channel violations, important notifications and comments you haven't replied to. Some cards won't show, depending on your recent channel activity.
Why can't I see the Earn tab?
YouTube Help describes the Earn tab as the place to manage monetization settings if you're in the YouTube Partner Program, so if you're not in the programme, that's the first thing to check.
Can I use YouTube Studio on mobile and desktop?
Yes. On a computer you open it from your profile picture on YouTube, and on Android there's the YouTube Studio app from Google Play. YouTube Help also has an iPhone and iPad version of its app article.
