TikTok is removing Pro and Creator Accounts and moving the creator tools into the settings of your Personal Account, so you don't need to switch to a creator account any more, and the option may not be there for you. As of October 2026 the account types TikTok lists are the General TikTok Account (also called Personal), the Verified Business Account and the Organization Account.
The catch: the switch you're looking for is being retired
If you've followed an older tutorial telling you to switch to a Creator Account and you can't find the option, this is why. TikTok says it's in the process of removing Pro and Creator Accounts and offering new creator tool features in the settings of your Personal Account, which means you get the advanced creator options without changing account type.
So for most creators, the General TikTok Account is the creator account now. TikTok describes it as a good choice for general users, content creators and most public figures, and says that with it you have access to creator tools that help you understand your content and what your audience enjoys. Everything on this page comes from TikTok's own help pages (source: TikTok Help Center, read October 2026), and the menu and button names are written the way TikTok writes them.
The three account types TikTok lists now
| Account type | Who TikTok says it suits | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|
| General TikTok Account (Personal) | General users, content creators and most public figures | Creator tools built in, can be made private, access to monetization programs where available |
| Verified Business Account | Anyone whose primary goal is promoting a product or service | Business Suite, business details on the profile, Commercial Music Library only |
| Organization Account | Organisations that run an account with several people | Team members with Admin or Operator roles, login permissions the organisation controls |
If what you're weighing up is personal against business, with the music library and profile link as the deciding points, I've covered that decision on its own in TikTok personal vs business accounts. This page sticks to what's changed and what each type gives you now.
Creator tools inside a General TikTok Account
- Monetization programs and features. Not available everywhere, and some need you to meet specific criteria.
- Analytics in TikTok Studio. Post, follower, LIVE and other metrics, once you have at least one public post.
- Promote. TikTok's advertising tool for getting more people to discover your content, visit your website or follow you.
- TikTok LIVE. Subject to age and follower requirements.
- Music. Both the general music library and the Commercial Music Library.
- Private account. Only people you approve can follow you and view your content.
There's also a step up that few creators know exists: a TikTok Account with Advanced Access. TikTok says it unlocks more features and tools, and it's one of the two account types (alongside a Verified Business Account) that can enter the Web Business Suite and Mobile Business Suite and use paid or organic conversion anchors. Paid anchors are links you add to ads; organic anchors are links you attach to your posts or profile. Organization Accounts: one profile, several people
Organization Accounts are built for teams. Several members can work on one or more accounts at a time, and administrators control the login permissions, so when someone leaves, their access is revoked and everyone else carries on. They're not available everywhere, you can only create one from certain business platforms such as the TikTok Shop Seller Center, and some features aren't offered, including monetization features, account region changes and Family Pairing.
| Role | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Full account access, including sensitive actions, changing settings, assigning roles and granting permissions |
| Operator | Standard access: managing content, chats and connections only |
To invite a member:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account, then tap Permissions.
- Tap Invite and enter the member's phone number, or tap Use email address and enter their email.
- Tap Continue, select a role, then tap Invite.
- Tap OK to confirm.
Members log in with their own phone number or email and a 6-digit code, then pick the Organization Account and complete two-step verification. Logging in with a username isn't supported. You may also be asked to set a 6-digit PIN, which you'll find under Settings and privacy, then Account, then PIN.

Switching between General and Verified Business
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Business verification, then follow the steps to switch your account type.
TikTok advises against flipping back and forth, because your verification isn't saved and you'd have to verify your business again. There's a quieter risk too: if TikTok asks you to verify an existing Business Account and you don't, it may be converted to a General TikTok Account automatically. To get the business features back, tap Profile, look for the business verification prompt or banner, tap Verify and submit your documents. Approval can take up to 5 business days, and you'll get an in-app notification and a confirmation email. If you also run ads, my TikTok Business Center guide picks up from there.
My verdict on the TikTok creator account
Stop hunting for a Creator Account switch. If you're a creator, stay on a General TikTok Account, because that's where TikTok is putting the creator tools. If your main reason for being on TikTok is selling a product or service, verify as a business and keep it that way. And if a team runs the account, an Organization Account with clear Admin and Operator roles is safer than sharing one login around the office.
