ExpressVPN Price: Basic, Advanced and Pro Plans Explained

As of October 2026, ExpressVPN costs from $2.99 a month for Basic, $4.49 a month for Advanced and $7.49 a month for Pro on its 2 years plus 4 months term. You pay the whole term upfront, starting at $83.72, and then it renews yearly at a higher price.

VPN prices are designed to look small, so the useful numbers are the upfront bill and the renewal. ExpressVPN's order page shows both, and that's where this page focuses. All amounts are in US dollars, and ExpressVPN says sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.

Advanced$4.49$125.72$119.95 a year
Pro$7.49$209.72$199.95 a year

The order page shows each plan's first term as 2 years plus 4 months, and it lists total savings of $336, $350 and $434 for Basic, Advanced and Pro. ExpressVPN explains that those discounts are measured against the current monthly price for the same tier.

ExpressVPN advertises speeds of up to 40Gbps and its Lightway protocol on every plan. The ID theft insurance on Advanced and Pro is underwritten by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, and ExpressVPN points you to each tier's summary of benefits for the terms and exclusions.

Which ExpressVPN plan fits you

  • Basic suits a person or couple who want a fast VPN on phones, laptops and a TV, with ads and malicious sites blocked.
  • Advanced suits a family that wants tracker blocking too, two more device slots and the identity insurance.
  • Pro suits people who need a dedicated IP included, or who want the highest insurance cover.

For most households, the jump from Basic to Advanced is about privacy extras rather than the VPN itself, so pick based on whether you'd use those extras.

The extras inside the higher plans

The comparison table shows that ExpressVPN's tiers bundle more than a VPN. Higher plans add more email aliases, a password manager with password health checks, a built in 2FA authenticator, and, on Advanced and Pro, file attachments in the password vault of 5GB and 10GB. The table also lists identity tools such as dark web monitoring, credit reports and data removal, so check which tier includes the ones you want.

If you already pay for a password manager or identity monitoring elsewhere, those extras are duplication, and Basic is the plan to compare.

What the renewal does to the price

Here's the part the monthly figure hides. After the first 28 months, ExpressVPN says Basic renews at $99.95 a year, Advanced at $119.95 a year and Pro at $199.95 a year. Those renewals are yearly charges, and the first term's discount doesn't carry over.

If you don't want to renew, it's worth noting the date you paid and checking your account well before the 28 months are up. That way you can decide whether to stay, switch plan or shop around, rather than finding a yearly charge on your card.

ExpressVPN for teams

If you're buying for a small business, ExpressVPN has a separate route. Its order page says ExpressVPN for Teams offers multi license discounts for 5 or more users, with admin controls and fast deployment, and a 5 license minimum applies. For a team, compare that with the cost of buying several personal plans.

The 30 day refund guarantee

ExpressVPN offers a 30 day refund guarantee for new users. Its order page says first time users can try it with no commitment, and if you're not satisfied in the first 30 days, you can ask Support for a refund. That's the closest thing to a free trial on the order page, so treat the first month as your test period.

How to avoid overpaying

  1. Work out the upfront bill, not the monthly figure, because the 28 month term is charged in one go.
  2. Note the renewal price. Basic renews at $99.95 a year after the first term.
  3. Count your devices. Basic covers 10 at once, which is plenty for most households.
  4. Skip Pro unless you need a dedicated IP or the larger insurance cover.
  5. Test speeds and the apps within 30 days, so you can still use the refund guarantee.

Before you buy, compare it with a rival: there's a head to head on Surfshark vs ExpressVPN, and if you're weighing up NordVPN too, read whether NordVPN is safe first.

My verdict

Basic is the ExpressVPN plan most people should buy: $83.72 covers 28 months and 10 devices, and you get the same servers and protocol as the dearer tiers. Only move up if you'll use the identity insurance or need a dedicated IP. Whichever plan you choose, put the renewal date in your calendar, because the yearly renewal is where a cheap VPN stops being cheap.
