A Shopify translation app puts your store into other languages, often with AI, so shoppers abroad can read and buy. Ten apps follow, alphabetically. Nine of the ten show a free label as of Oct 2026, including Shopify's own app, which is also the only one rated below 4.5. So choose on what gets translated and how, not on the label.
Translating a Shopify store is more than the product pages. Menus, checkout text, emails and the words inside your other apps all need to change too, and that's where these apps differ. Some translate with AI engines they name on the listing, some handle third-party apps and images, and several also show local money for each market.
The ten apps are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, each described from its own Shopify App Store listing. For the wider job of selling abroad, my guide to globalising and localising an ecommerce site covers more than language.
Shopify translation apps compared
The free plan column comes from each app's own Shopify App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing says Free or Free plan available. Trial only means it offers a free trial and nothing more. Not stated covers any other label, including Free to install, which tells you the install is free, not that a free plan exists, so check the listing before you sign up.

- You need third-party apps and images translated as well as text: langify: translate your store.
- You care about how translated pages show up in search: Weglot: AI Translation & SEO.
- You'd like to choose the AI engine, such as OpenAI or DeepL: LangShop AI Language Translate.

Shopify's own app sits lowest on rating
The Shopify App Store showed 1,670 apps for 'translation' as of Oct 2026, and 4 of the top results were labelled Ad. Of the ten here, nine show Free or Free plan available and one shows Free to install, which isn't a free plan. Every app has at least 473 reviews, with counts running up to 2,565.
Here's the part people miss: the one app made by Shopify is listed as Free, yet it's the only one of the ten rated below 4.5. Free and official doesn't mean it does everything you want. Read its newest reviews alongside the others, and compare what each app translates, before you commit.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
AI translation needs a human read
Most of these apps lead with AI on their listing. AI gets you a full first draft fast, but it doesn't know your brand voice, your sizing terms or the jokes in your product copy. Ask a native speaker to read your home page, best sellers, checkout and returns policy before you open a new market.
What to translate first
- Navigation, product titles and descriptions, so shoppers can find and understand what you sell.
- Checkout and order emails, so nobody hits a page in the wrong language at the last step.
- Delivery and returns pages, because they answer the questions people ask before they buy.
- Text inside your other apps, such as reviews and popups, if the translation app can reach it.
- Images with words on them, which plain text translation will miss.
If you sell in more than one language, the extra choices on a product page need translating too, and our list of product options apps for Shopify compares the apps that add them.
Selling in more than one market
Language is only one part. Shoppers abroad also expect familiar sizes, local delivery options and amounts shown the way they're used to. Several apps here pair translation with local money display by location, which saves you adding a second app for multi-market selling.
Before you go further, it's worth checking what a good conversion rate looks like for Shopify so you can tell whether a new language is pulling its weight.
How the translation apps were chosen
The ten apps are the first relevant, non-ad results the Shopify App Store itself returned for 'translation', one app per vendor, each with a rating and at least 20 reviews shown. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, so the order isn't a ranking. Ratings, review counts and plan labels are copied from the store as of Oct 2026 and will have moved since.

My plain advice on translation apps
Start with the language your next market speaks and translate the pages that sell: products, checkout and returns. Pick the app whose listing names what you need, whether that's third-party app text, images, search-ready pages or a choice of AI engine, and use its free plan to translate one market before you add more. Then get a native speaker to read it.
If you're still deciding where the store should live, my guide to choosing an ecommerce platform is a good starting point.

Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify have a free translation app?
Yes. Shopify's own translation app is listed as Free on the Shopify App Store as of Oct 2026, though it's the only app of the ten here rated below 4.5.
Can AI translate a Shopify store?
Yes. Most apps here translate with AI, and some name the engines they use, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or DeepL. Have a native speaker check the result before you launch.
Will a translation app translate my other apps?
Some will. A few listings here say they translate third-party apps as well as your store text, so look for that wording.
Which translation apps have a free plan?
Nine of the ten show Free or Free plan available as of Oct 2026. The other says Free to install, which only means installing is free.
What should I translate first?
Navigation, product pages, checkout and order emails, then delivery and returns pages, so shoppers can buy without hitting the wrong language.
