A WordPress table plugin lets you build tables that are easier to make, style and update than the default table block, from simple comparison tables to searchable data tables and WooCommerce product tables. Pick the kind of table you need first, then compare installs, rating counts and the last updated date on each listing.
The table block that comes with WordPress is fine for a few rows. Once you need sorting, searching, merged cells, data from a spreadsheet or a list of products, it runs out of road fast, and that's when you'll want a plugin.
Table plugins fill that gap in different ways, and the ten below cover the main ones. They're in no particular order, listed alphabetically, and each description comes from the plugin's own WordPress.org listing. For more plugins worth knowing, see my list of WordPress plugins I'd look at first.
How I picked these table plugins
Every plugin here is in the WordPress.org plugin directory and describes tables on its listing. I compared what each listing shows: active installs, the average rating and the number of ratings behind it, the last updated date and the author. Those are as of Oct 2026 and they move. Several listings link to a Pro or Premium version, so what you install from WordPress.org is the core plugin. The free plan column says Yes only where a listing names a free plan in a way I could confirm; every row here says Not stated.

Block editor tables, table managers or data tables
Block editor plugins improve the table you already build in the editor, with things like merged and split cells and styling for each cell. They're the lightest option and they're ideal for tables that live inside one post.
Table managers keep your tables in one place so you can reuse them across pages, and data table plugins pull rows from spreadsheets, CSV files and other sources so the table updates when the data does. Then there are specialists: one turns your blog posts into a sortable table, one shows WooCommerce products in a searchable table, and one adds a table field for developers using custom fields.

Two perfect scores, very different evidence
This is the comparison I'd want anyone to see. TableKit shows 5.0 from 4 ratings. TablePress also shows 5.0, but from 4,625 ratings on 600,000+ active installs, as of Oct 2026 on the WordPress.org plugin directory.
Same average, but there's a completely different weight behind it. One is a handful of people; the other is thousands of site owners. The lowest average on this list is 4.5, so the averages barely separate these plugins at all. The rating count and the install band are what tell them apart.
Which table plugin for which content
- One table inside one post: a block editor table plugin with merged cells and per-cell styling.
- The same tables reused across several pages: a table manager that stores them in one place.
- Data that changes in a spreadsheet: a plugin that syncs the table from a connected sheet or file.
- A shop on WooCommerce: a product table plugin with search and filters.
- A blog archive people want to search: a plugin that lists your posts in a sortable table.
Tables that help readers and search engines
A table built from real text is readable on a phone, quotable and something search engines can understand. A screenshot of a spreadsheet isn't any of those, and it's useless to a screen reader. Keep column headings short and clear, put the thing people compare in the first column, and don't cram ten columns onto a page that most people read on a phone.

My plain advice on choosing a table plugin
Match the plugin to the job. For a table or two inside posts, a block editor plugin keeps things light. For tables you reuse or update often, use a table manager or a plugin that syncs from your data. Then ignore how close the averages are, since they barely move, and look at the rating count, the install band and the last updated date instead.
And keep tables simple. If a reader on a phone can't understand it in five seconds, it's doing too much.

Frequently asked questions
What does a WordPress table plugin do?
It helps you build, style and manage tables beyond the default table block, with features like merged cells, sorting, searching, data imports or WooCommerce product tables, depending on the plugin.
Do I need a table plugin, or is the WordPress table block enough?
The built-in block is fine for a small table in one post. A plugin helps once you need sorting, searching, reusable tables or data from a spreadsheet.
Can a WordPress table update from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Some plugins here pull data from spreadsheets, CSV, JSON and other sources, and one syncs the table with a connected sheet so edits there show on the page.
Are WordPress table plugins free?
You install the core plugin from WordPress.org, and several listings link to a Pro or Premium version. Every row in the free plan column above says Not stated, so check each listing.
Why do so many table plugins have similar ratings?
On this list the averages run from 4.5 to 5.0 as of Oct 2026, so they barely separate the plugins. The rating count and install band tell you much more.
