Discord badges are the small icons on your profile that show what you've done on Discord, from how old your account is to how long you've subscribed to Nitro or boosted a server. As of October 2026, nine badges can still be earned, while legacy badges such as HypeSquad House and Early Supporter can't be earned any more, only kept by the people who already have them.
Here's the catch. A lot of the badges people ask about are legacy ones, so no amount of effort will get you a HypeSquad or Early Supporter badge today. And the three activity badges, Game Time, Game Variety and Streaming, only count what the Discord desktop app can see. Console games and anything you do on your phone don't count towards them at all.
Every Discord badge and how you earn it
Discord splits badges into three groups: current badges you can still earn, legacy badges that stay with the accounts that earned them, and a couple of special badges for testers and staff. Here's the full list from Discord's help, as of October 2026:
| Badge | How you earn it | Can you still get it? |
|---|---|---|
| Account Age | Your account turns a year old, then the badge evolves | Yes |
| Game Time | Time in games the desktop app detects, with the personalisation setting on | Yes |
| Game Variety | Number of different games the desktop app detects | Yes |
| Streaming | Screen sharing on desktop with at least one other person | Yes |
| Gifting | Send Nitro or Shop gifts | Yes |
| Nitro | Subscribe to Nitro, Nitro Classic or Nitro Basic | Yes |
| Orbs | Buy it in the Orbs Shop | Yes |
| Quests | Complete a Quest | Yes |
| Server Booster | Boost a server; it evolves with unbroken boosting | Yes |
| Early Supporter | Bought Nitro before October 10th, 2018 | No, legacy |
| HypeSquad House | A quiz that's no longer available | No, legacy |
| Last Meadow Online | Earned from April 1, 2026 to April 7, 2026 | No, legacy |
| Moderator Program Alumni | In Discord's moderator programmes before December 1st, 2022 | No, legacy |
| HypeSquad Events, Legacy Username, Partnered Server Owner | Legacy badges that stay with accounts that earned them | No, legacy |
| Bug Hunter and Golden Bug Hunter | Active member of the Discord Testers community | Only through Discord Testers |
| Discord Staff | Discord employees | Staff only |
The nine current badges in more detail
- Account Age. It appears once your account is a year old and evolves as the account gets older. Once you've reached a level, you don't drop back.
- Game Time. This adds up your total time playing games Discord can detect, across all of them, and evolves as the total grows.
- Game Variety. This counts how many different games Discord recognises. Some platforms count as a single game, so different experiences in Roblox or Fortnite all count as one.
- Streaming. Time spent sharing your screen with at least one other person in the call, on the desktop app only. Discord counts screen sharing from January 1, 2024 onwards.
- Gifting. Every Nitro or Shop gift you've sent counts, and the badge evolves as you send more.
- Nitro. Anyone subscribed to Nitro, Nitro Classic or Nitro Basic has it. It evolves the longer you stay subscribed, and hovering over it shows the date your subscription started.
- Orbs. This is the one badge you simply buy, in the Orbs Shop.
- Quests. It's added to your profile when you complete a Quest.
- Server Booster. A pink badge that evolves with how long you've boosted without a pause. Stop boosting and your streak and badge reset to the first level. If you boost several servers, it reflects your longest streak.
Why console and mobile gaming don't count
This is the question I see most. Game Time and Game Variety only count games detected by the Discord desktop app. Xbox and PlayStation games don't count, and you can't earn or level up these badges on mobile. Streaming is desktop app only too.
There's a second condition people miss. Progress only counts if the setting Use data to personalize my Discord experience is turned on. If you've switched it off for privacy reasons, your playtime isn't adding up towards anything. Even with it on, Discord says progress can take time to update, so a badge that hasn't moved after one evening isn't necessarily broken.
Legacy and special badges
Legacy badges can't be earned any more, but they stay with the account if you earned them. That's why they're worth a second look on someone else's profile: an Early Supporter badge, for example, means that person bought Nitro before October 2018.
The Bug Hunter badge trips people up. It goes to active members of the Discord Testers community, and there's a higher Golden Bug Hunter level. Submitting a bug through the Support Portal doesn't count, so reporting problems the normal way won't earn it. The Discord Staff badge is only for Discord employees.
Badge rarity: Common, Rare, Epic and Mythic
Every badge has a rarity: Common, Rare, Epic or Mythic. Evolving badges can have a different rarity at each level, and rarity can change over time as more or fewer people earn a badge. So a badge that's Mythic today won't necessarily stay that way.

Finding your Badge Directory
The Badge Directory shows the badges you've earned, the ones still available to you, and how to earn each one. There are three ways in:
- Select any badge on a profile.
- On desktop, open the You Bar, then Badges.
- On mobile, if you have it. Discord says the mobile Badge Directory is an experiment for a small number of users, so don't worry if you can't find it.
If you're comparing options, Discord Family Center fills in the rest.

Six display slots, plus hiding and reordering
Your profile shows up to six badges in display slots. New or levelled-up badges go into the slots by default, and any extras stay in the Badge Directory.
Everyone can hide badges, but only Nitro subscribers can reorder them, and a Nitro subscriber's Nitro badge always stays visible. Hidden badges move to the end of the row with a small hidden icon, and other people can't see them. I've written the full steps in my guide to hiding Discord badges.
My take on chasing badges
Account Age takes care of itself, and Game Time, Game Variety and Streaming fill in as you use the desktop app, as long as that personalisation setting is on. Completing a single Quest adds the Quests badge. The Nitro badge comes with a subscription, so I wouldn't pay for Nitro just for an icon. If you're weighing that up, here's what Discord gives you without paying. And if you've got a different Discord problem to solve, my Discord help guides cover servers, calls and settings.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get badges on Discord?
Discord lists nine current badges you can still earn as of October 2026: Account Age, Game Time, Game Variety, Gifting, Nitro, Orbs, Quests, Server Booster and Streaming. Your Badge Directory shows how to earn each one.
Can you still get the HypeSquad badge on Discord?
No. HypeSquad House badges came from a quiz that's no longer available, and HypeSquad Events is a legacy badge too. If you earned them, they stay with your account.
Do console games count towards Discord badges?
No. Game Time and Game Variety only count games detected by the Discord desktop app, so Xbox and PlayStation games don't count, and you can't earn or level these badges on mobile.
What happens to my Server Booster badge if I stop boosting?
Your streak and badge reset to the first level. If you boost several servers, the badge reflects your longest streak.
How many badges can I show on my Discord profile?
Up to six, in display slots. New or levelled-up badges go into the slots by default, and extras stay in the Badge Directory.
Can I get the Bug Hunter badge by reporting a bug?
No. Submitting a bug through the Support Portal doesn't count. Bug Hunter goes to active members of the Discord Testers community.
