How to Create a LinkedIn Company Page (Desktop and iPhone)

To create a LinkedIn Company Page, click the For Business icon at the top right of your LinkedIn homepage, choose Create a Company Page, pick the Page type, fill in your company details, tick the box confirming you can act for the business and click Create page. It's free, but you need a personal LinkedIn profile first, and you can't do it from the Android app.

A Company Page is your business's official presence on LinkedIn, separate from your own profile. It's where people can follow your business, read your posts, see your services and find your jobs. Setting one up takes a few minutes if you know which options to pick.

What you need before you start

  • A personal LinkedIn account: LinkedIn says you must have one to create a Page. You'll manage the Page from your profile.
  • The right device: LinkedIn says you can create a Page on the desktop site or in the iOS app. Creating a Page isn't supported on Android.
  • The authority to do it: you'll be asked to confirm that you have the right to act on behalf of the company.

Have your logo, a one-line tagline and your website address ready, so you can complete the Page in one sitting.

  3. Choose Company or Educational institution.

Which Page type to choose

Most small businesses want a standard Company Page. LinkedIn's help page lists several types, and the difference matters:

Page typeWhat it's forWhat you need first
Company PageYour organisation's main presence: posts, followers, analytics and a call to actionA personal profile
Showcase PageA brand, business unit or initiative with its own audienceAn existing Company or University Page
Service PageListing services so members can message you for free and request a proposalA personal profile plus a Company or University Page
Product PageShowcasing your productsAn existing Company or University Page

Start with the Company Page. Showcase and Product Pages hang off it, so they come later if you need them at all.

What happens once it's live

LinkedIn says that once you've created a Page you become its super admin, and you can assign other people as admins. Do that early: if you're the only admin and you lose access to your own account, the Page is stuck. I've explained how to add an admin to a LinkedIn Page and pick the right role.

If you see an error when you click Create page, LinkedIn points you to its troubleshooting tips for creating a Page, so start there before you try again.

Finish the Page before you share it

Creating the Page only gives you the shell. LinkedIn's own last step is Start building your page, and that's where the work that brings in followers happens. Before you invite anyone to follow it, work through this list:

  • Logo: use the same mark as your website so people recognise you instantly.
  • Tagline: one plain sentence saying who you help and how. Skip the slogans.
  • About section: write it the way a customer would describe what you do, because that's what they'll search for.
  • Website and industry: fill both in so the Page looks complete and trustworthy.
  • A first post: an empty Page looks abandoned. Post something useful before you share the link.

Then ask your team to list the Page as their employer on their own profiles. It's the quickest way to make a new Page look established, because their profiles link straight to it.

Profile or Page: which should you post from?

Your personal profile is you. Your Page is the business. People tend to engage more with people than with logos, so most owners I work with post mainly from their own profile and use the Page as the official home: the place your team lists as their employer, where your jobs appear and where a buyer checks that you're real. You don't have to choose, and the Page doesn't replace your profile.

My advice

Create the Page on a computer if you can, because you get every Page type and every field in one go. Pick Company, add a clear logo and tagline, link your website, and add a second admin before you do anything else. Then fill in the About section in plain words a customer would use.
