According to Gumroad's help pages, India is on its bank payout list, with INR as the payout currency, paid on a Tuesday. The catch is that Gumroad's PayPal Connect option excludes India, so there's no easy PayPal fallback, and your payout is separate from the UPI option buyers may see.
Indian creators ask me about Gumroad a lot, usually because they've seen someone sell a template pack or a course and want to know if they can do the same from home. The honest answer comes in three parts: how you get paid, what your buyers can pay with, and what happens if the bank route doesn't work for you. Everything below comes from Gumroad's own help centre, with PayPal's India agreement for the fallback question.
A rupee bank payout is the route for India
Gumroad's getting-paid article lists the countries where it supports direct bank deposits, and India appears with INR as the payout currency. It says it supports local-currency bank deposits for most countries, and uses PayPal only where bank deposits aren't offered. So an Indian seller is on the bank route by default.
Gumroad adds that it can only pay out to a local bank account in your local currency. It can't send dollars to an Indian account. The conversion rate is fixed at the time of each sale, not on payout day, so what you receive depends on the rate that day.
PayPal Connect leaves India out
Many sellers assume PayPal is the safety net. Gumroad's PayPal Connect article says that option is available to creators from countries where PayPal operates, except Algeria, Brazil, Egypt, India, Japan, Morocco, Turkiye and a few others. India is named in that exception list.
PayPal's own India user agreement explains part of why this is different. It says PayPal offers Export Payment Services in India, which allow you to receive payments from buyers for the export of goods and services outside India, and it lists as a restricted activity using those services for anything worth more than 10,000 US dollars per transaction. For my wider notes on how that works, see PayPal for Indian sellers.
UPI is for your buyers, not your bank deposit
Gumroad's own note makes a distinction that trips people up. It accepts many payment methods at checkout, including cards, PayPal and local methods such as UPI in India, and which ones a buyer sees depends on where the buyer is. It then says your payout isn't affected by any of that. Sales land in your Gumroad balance and are paid out the one way you set up, in your payout currency.
So if you're selling to people in India, UPI can help them pay. It doesn't change how or when you're paid.
Tuesday payouts and how long they take
Gumroad's payout day table names India among the countries paid on a Tuesday for bank accounts. You need a minimum balance of 100 US dollars, and on weekly, monthly and quarterly schedules each sale has a minimum seven-day holding period. Gumroad says bank payouts can take two to seven business days to process and can slip around bank holidays.
What Stripe asks Indian sellers to verify
Gumroad uses Stripe for bank payouts and says Stripe will ask for several items, such as date of birth, legal name, phone number, address, a government ID number such as your country's national ID, a photo of your ID and proof of your home address. Gumroad says you should use your full legal name and a physical address, not a PO box.
Stripe's own global page labels India as Preview, which tells me the way Stripe treats India isn't the same as in its fully launched countries. That's Stripe's wording, and I'd read it as a reason to keep your documents tidy rather than as a warning. Gumroad's help pages don't say it affects Indian bank payouts.

The review before your first payout
New accounts go through a review before the first payout. Gumroad says it can take one to three weeks, and typically means three to four sales with a balance over 100 US dollars. Until it clears, each payout day is skipped, but Gumroad says none of the money is lost: it stays in your balance and goes out on your first payout day once everything else is in place.
It also warns that buying your own product to speed this up looks like fraud to payment processors. If you want to see what a buyer sees, use the test purchase feature instead.
Two mistakes to avoid on day one
- Picking the wrong country. Changing your payout country clears your saved bank and identity details and forfeits unpaid amounts on the old country's connected account, so choose carefully.
- Typing the account holder name loosely. If the bank account is rejected, Gumroad says the name has to match the one registered with your bank exactly.
What Gumroad takes per sale
On sales through Gumroad's website, Gumroad charges 10% plus fifty cents per transaction. It says that doesn't include card processing of 2.9% plus thirty cents. Your Indian bank may charge separately for incoming transfers, so ask it.

If you also earn from other platforms, how Payoneer works for Indian freelancers is a separate route from Gumroad, since Gumroad itself doesn't support Payoneer. For tax on this income, ask a local accountant.
