Is OppLoans Legit? Bank Partners, Fees and Rates (2026)

OppLoans is a real lender brand run by OppFi, and its own FAQ says the loans are made by bank partners such as FinWise Bank, with OppLoans servicing them. The catch is cost: rates vary by state, and its line of credit uses fees instead of a normal interest rate. Read the rate and terms page for your state before you apply.

Lenders that serve people who've been turned down elsewhere are worth reading about carefully, because the cost matters more than the speed. If you're asking whether OppLoans is legit, I think the answer is that it's a real company, and the sensible next question is what it costs. I've stuck to OppLoans' own FAQ, rates and terms page and about page, and I'm not giving any financial advice here.

Who is OppLoans and who makes the loans

OppLoans' about page describes OppFi as a tech-enabled digital finance platform that works with banks, and names Opportunity Financial, LLC as the copyright holder. It says the aim is safe, simple and more affordable credit access for Americans who lack traditional options. That's the company's description of itself, so weigh it against the costs below.

The FAQ is clear about who lends the money. It says installment loans will be originated by one of its bank partners, and it names FinWise Bank and First Electronic Bank. Lines of credit are originated exclusively by FinWise Bank, and OppLoans services all of the loans. So the loan agreement you sign may name a bank, even though you deal with OppLoans day to day.

OppLoans loan amounts and where they're available

OppLoans' FAQ says its consumer products range from 500 to 5,000 US dollars, depending on your state of residence, income, ability to repay and creditworthiness. Its rates and terms page says installment loans are originated by lending partners in many states, and lines of credit by FinWise Bank in Georgia and West Virginia. The page has a full state list, so check yours first.

How OppLoans installment loans are priced

This is the point I'd read most carefully. OppLoans' FAQ describes installment loans as unsecured, closed-ended loans repaid on a set term and schedule. On price, it says rates and terms vary by state and that it's continuously testing a range of rate options, and it sends you to the Rates and Terms page. I couldn't find an installment APR range or term lengths on the pages I read, so I won't quote any. Find the figures for your state on the lender's own page, and look at the APR and the total you'll repay, not just the monthly amount.

The OppLoans line of credit and its fees

The line of credit works differently, and its own pages spell it out. They say it has no traditional interest rate. Instead, a 10 percent Cash Advance Fee applies to each draw, and a Carried Balance Fee applies by billing cycle based on your average daily balance. The rates and terms page gives an example: for a 1,000 US dollar cash advance, the fee is 100 US dollars and you receive 900 US dollars.

  • The fee is charged on each draw, so several small draws each carry their own fee.
  • A carried balance fee applies to balances you keep from one billing cycle to the next.
  • The page says no carried balance fee applies if your carried balance is 0 or less, or your average daily balance is 25 US dollars or less.

Fees instead of interest can make comparing products harder, so work out the total cost for the amount you'd really borrow before you decide.

How OppLoans shows up on your credit report

OppLoans' FAQ says loans appear on credit reports as OppLoans plus the lending partner's name, for example FinWise/OppLoans. That helps you recognise the account if you check your reports. Whether on-time payments are reported to the bureaus wasn't clear from the pages I read, so ask before you apply if building credit matters to you.

Questions to ask before taking an OppLoans loan

  1. What is the APR for my state, and what is the total I'll repay?
  2. Which bank is making my loan, and does it appear on the agreement?
  3. Are there late fees, and is there a penalty for paying early?
  4. Will the payments be reported to the credit bureaus?
  5. Can I afford the payments if my income dips for a month?

Before you sign anything, my plain-English guide to APR makes the cost figures easier to read, and paying off loans while unemployed covers what to do if your income stops. I can't advise on your finances.

Spotting fake OppLoans messages

Scammers copy lender names and ask for fees upfront. OppLoans' own pages describe how its loans are originated and serviced, and they give a phone number and email on the FAQ. Use the contact details from the official site, never a number in a text message, and don't pay anyone who promises approval for an upfront fee. If someone is pressuring you, stop, and if you feel in danger, contact the police.

Is OppLoans worth considering?

OppLoans is a real lender brand that explains its bank partners and its fee structure on its own pages. The question is whether the cost suits your situation, and only you can judge that. Check the rate and terms for your state, compare at least one other option, and keep this a decision about the total repayment, not the speed of the approval.
