YouTube's version of a duo plan is called the Two-person plan, and it's only sold in 10 countries: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, France, Hong Kong, India, Laos, Nepal and Taiwan. It isn't available in the US, the UK or Canada, so two people there need a Family plan or two separate memberships.
Spotify made Duo a household name, so it's natural to look for the same thing on YouTube. YouTube does have one, under a different name and in far fewer places. Here's what its help centre says about how the plan works, plus what two people in the US can do instead.
Where the YouTube Two-person plan is available
YouTube's help page lists these countries for the Two-person plan, for both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium:
| Region | Countries with the Two-person plan |
|---|---|
| Asia | Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Laos, Nepal, Taiwan |
| Europe | France |
| Oceania | Australia |
| Latin America | Argentina |
So Australia and India are the big English-speaking markets where you'll see the option; the US, UK and Canada aren't on the list. YouTube's help page doesn't give local prices, so check the price on the YouTube Premium page from your own country.
How the Two-person plan works
- One payer. The Family manager is the main account holder, pays for the membership and creates a Google Family group.
- One partner. The manager can invite up to one other person, and that person must live in the same household.
- Separate accounts. The second member uses their own Google account, with their own library, subscriptions and recommendations. YouTube doesn't share watch history between the two.
- Age rules. YouTube says age restrictions apply for family members under 18.
Both people get the full membership, not a cut-down version. On a YouTube Premium Two-person plan that means ad-free videos, downloads, background play and ad-free listening in the YouTube Music app, which are the benefits YouTube lists for Premium. On a YouTube Music Premium Two-person plan, the shared benefits cover music only.
How to set up and add your partner
- Go to the YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium page and select Two-person plan.
- Sign in with your Google account, confirm your billing details and select Subscribe.
- In the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, then Settings, then Purchases and memberships.
- Tap your membership, then Edit next to Family sharing settings.
- Tap Invite partner, enter their email address and select Send.
You'll get an email when they join. To remove them later, follow the same route and select their name instead.
Switching from a Family plan to the Two-person plan
This is the trap. YouTube's help centre says that if you already manage a Family plan, you need to cancel it before you can sign up for the Two-person plan. It suggests resubscribing at the end of your current billing cycle to avoid paying twice. Once you're on the new plan, you choose your partner from your existing Google Family.
What two people in the US can use instead
With no Two-person plan in the US, these are the YouTube options listed on its own pages, as of Oct 2026:
| Option | Price shown (US) | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Premium Family | $26.99 a month | You plus up to 5 family members aged 13+ in your household |
| Two YouTube Premium Individual memberships | $15.99 a month each | One person each |
| YouTube Premium Individual, annual | $159.99 for 12 months | One person |
| YouTube Premium Lite | $8.99 a month | Ad-free on most non-music videos, not Shorts; one person |
| YouTube Music Premium Family | $18.99 a month | Music only, up to 5 family members aged 13+ |
For two adults who both want the full YouTube Premium, the Family plan at $26.99 is cheaper than two Individual plans at $15.99 each, and it still has room if your household grows. I go through who qualifies in how YouTube Premium Family works. If one of you only wants ad-free videos, YouTube Premium Lite may be enough on its own.

My verdict
If you're in Australia, India, France or one of the other listed countries, the Two-person plan is the neat answer for a couple: one bill, two private accounts. Everywhere else, including the US, UK and Canada, there's no duo plan to find, so compare the Family plan with two separate memberships. Remember the switching rule if you ever move from Family to Two-person: cancel first, then resubscribe when the old billing period ends.
