How Much Does YouTube Pay per 1,000 Views in Sri Lanka?

YouTube doesn't publish a Sri Lanka rate per 1,000 views; your RPM depends on where viewers are, your niche and your format. Sri Lanka is on the Partner Program list, payouts come by wire or check in Sri Lankan rupees, and Sri Lanka appears on the IRS US tax treaty list.

Sri Lankan YouTube is full of talent: Sinhala and Tamil music, cricket talk, village cooking channels and Colombo tech reviewers. Every one of them eventually asks me the same thing, what does a thousand views pay? YouTube doesn't publish a Sri Lanka figure, so the useful answer is how the payment is calculated and which levers you control.

Sri Lanka also has one detail that sets it apart from many of its neighbours, and it's on the tax side, so stick with me to the end.

Is Sri Lanka on YouTube's monetisation list?

Yes. Sri Lanka is named on YouTube's Partner Program availability page, so Sri Lankan channels can apply for ad revenue once they meet the requirements: 1,000 subscribers together with 4,000 qualified watch hours over the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers with 10 million qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days.

Sri Lanka isn't part of the expanded programme with its 500-subscriber entry point. It also isn't on YouTube's lists for channel memberships, Super Chat or Super Stickers. YouTube Premium is available in Sri Lanka, so you'll still earn a share when Premium subscribers watch your videos.

How YouTube works out Sri Lankan earnings

The figure that answers your question is RPM. YouTube defines it as how much money you've earned per 1,000 video views, measured after YouTube's revenue share. Because it includes views that showed no ad, it's always lower than CPM, which is what advertisers pay per thousand ad impressions before YouTube takes its share.

Your RPM shifts with:

  1. Where your audience lives. YouTube's help notes that geography affects CPM, so viewers in Sri Lanka and viewers overseas are sold to different advertisers.
  2. Language and niche. An English-language finance or software channel competes for different ad budgets from a Sinhala comedy channel.
  3. How long people watch. Longer videos can carry more ads, especially past the mid-roll point.
  4. Shorts share. Shorts ad income is pooled and creators keep 45% of their allocation, based on engaged views among monetising creators in each country.

I'd always check two reports in YouTube Studio side by side: Revenue, for your RPM, and Audience, for where your viewers are. Together they explain most of the swings Sri Lankan creators notice.

Sri Lanka and the US tax treaty

Here's the distinctive part. YouTube asks every creator outside the US to submit US tax info, and once you do, withholding applies only to earnings from US viewers, at somewhere between 0 and 30% depending on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US. Sri Lanka is on the IRS list of United States income tax treaties.

YouTube's own example, for India, shows a treaty cutting the rate on US viewer earnings to 15% instead of 30%. I can't tell you what rate will apply to you, but it does mean filling in the form carefully, including any treaty claim the tool offers, is worth your time.

If you skip the form on an individual account, YouTube says 24% of your total earnings worldwide will be withheld. Please run your own situation past a Sri Lankan accountant, because I'm describing YouTube's process, not giving tax advice.

Getting paid in Sri Lankan rupees

All payments go through AdSense for YouTube. For Sri Lanka, Google's payment methods table lists check and wire transfer, with no EFT. To use wire, add a bank account at a Sri Lankan bank or branch, because Google requires the bank to be in the same country as your payments address.

The Sri Lankan rupee isn't listed among the AdSense reporting currencies on the thresholds page, so most Sri Lankan accounts work to the 100 US dollars threshold. When the payment lands, your bank converts it to LKR. Expect to verify your identity before the first payment and an address check at 10 US dollars or the local equivalent.

Where a big video pays off in Sri Lanka

If you hit a million views, YouTube's share will come from your RPM multiplied by those views in thousands, and that's all the maths there is. The more interesting money often comes after: Sri Lankan brands looking for creators, plus more subscribers to sell your own products to.

With memberships and Super Chat closed, brand deals and your own products matter even more for Sri Lankan channels. Even a small digital product, like a recipe e-book or a cricket stats sheet, gives your fans a way to support you directly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does YouTube pay per 1000 views in Sri Lanka?

YouTube doesn't publish a Sri Lanka rate. Your RPM, meaning your earnings per 1,000 views after YouTube's share, depends on audience location, niche, video length and Shorts share. Check it in YouTube Studio under Revenue.

Is YouTube monetisation available in Sri Lanka?

Yes. Sri Lanka is on YouTube's Partner Program availability list for ad revenue. It isn't on the lists for the expanded programme, channel memberships or Super Chat.

How do Sri Lankan YouTubers get paid?

Through AdSense for YouTube by wire transfer or check, according to Google's payment table. Your Sri Lankan bank converts the payment to Sri Lankan rupees.

Does Sri Lanka have a tax treaty with the US?

Sri Lanka is on the IRS list of United States income tax treaties. YouTube withholds 0 to 30% on US viewer earnings depending on treaty status, so submit your tax info and ask a local accountant about your own position.

Can Sri Lankan creators use Super Chat?

Not currently. Sri Lanka isn't on YouTube's Super Chat and Super Stickers availability list, so live streams earn mainly from ads and Premium.
