Wix Studio is Wix's platform for agencies, freelancers and enterprises: one workspace to manage many sites, teams and subscriptions, plus the Studio Editor for building responsive sites. As of October 2026 it's available to everyone, and switching costs nothing extra, because you only pay for Premium subscriptions as usual.
Here's the catch most people miss. Switching your account to Wix Studio doesn't convert your existing sites. Sites built in the Wix Editor move into the new workspace, but they stay Wix Editor sites. Wix is clear that you can't open a Wix Editor site in the Studio Editor, and the only way to get one there is to rebuild it from scratch. You can reuse the same media by adding it to a board in your Media Manager, but the pages themselves start again.
Who Wix Studio is for
Wix describes Studio as built for agencies and enterprises that offer bespoke, scalable web creation, and as a good fit for anyone who manages multiple sites or works with different teams. It's aimed at designers, developers and marketers. You don't have to code: the visual drag and drop canvas and no-code animations and interactions mean code is optional, but full CSS and developer tools are there if you want them.
If you run a single business site and you're happy in the Wix Editor, Studio mostly adds tools you won't use. If you build or look after sites for other people, the workspace is the reason to move. For the bigger picture on the platform itself, here's Wix reviewed in full.
Wix Studio vs the regular Wix experience
| Question | Answer, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Can I edit my old Wix Editor sites after switching? | Yes, in the Wix Editor. You can also keep creating new Wix Editor sites |
| Can I open a Wix Editor site in the Studio Editor? | No. You'd have to rebuild it from scratch |
| Can I build in the Studio Editor without switching? | No. Creating Studio Editor sites needs a Wix Studio account |
| Can I manage a Studio Editor site without switching? | Yes, if the site is transferred to you, you're invited as a collaborator, or you switched back after building it |
| Can I join a Studio workspace without switching? | Yes. If you're invited as a team member, you can move between the two workspaces |
| Can I switch back? | Yes, at any time, but some Studio features stop being available |
| Does switching cost anything? | No additional payment. You pay for Premium subscriptions as usual |
Two smaller rules are worth knowing. Only a site's owner can duplicate it from the Wix Studio workspace. And if you're in the Wix Partner Program, leaving Wix Studio also means leaving the Partner Program and losing its benefits, features and points.
What you get in the workspace
| Part of Wix Studio | What it does |
|---|---|
| Workspace | Manage all your sites, apps, team, subscriptions and domains in one place, with filters for editor type, Premium plan and publish status |
| Team roles | Set roles and permissions per teammate, for the whole workspace or for specific sites |
| Reusable assets | Design libraries, custom templates and widgets you can reuse across sites |
| Client tools | A Client Kit for handover and monthly automated performance emails with eCommerce, Bookings and Blog sections |
| Customer Care log | Your team's full support ticket history in one tab |
| Wix Studio app | Manage sites, projects, clients and workspaces from iOS or Android |
You can belong to several workspaces with the same email address. Wix's own example is someone who runs their own business sites and also works inside an agency's workspace. Subscriptions that need urgent attention are highlighted at the top of the workspace, which is handy when you're juggling renewals for a lot of clients.
Client permissions are the part agencies tend to like most. You decide what each client can and can't do on their site, and you can stop them touching the design at all.
What's different in the Studio Editor
The Studio Editor uses responsive AI, which Wix calls patented technology, to add a responsive structure to any page or section in a click. You can keep the suggested layout or discard it and go back to your original design. You can also create custom breakpoints, use stacks and grid cells to lock layouts on every screen, and rely on proportional scaling, which is the default behaviour.
For developers there's a built-in VS Code-based IDE, GitHub integration, NPM packages, Wix Blocks for custom apps and widgets, and serverless coding on the frontend and backend. Several people can work on the same site at once and see each other's changes live, and anyone can leave comments pinned to specific elements. Multilingual sites are supported, with translation into 180 languages, manually or automatically. If you're curious about the AI side across Wix more widely, I've covered Wix AI tools separately.
One honest note from Wix's own FAQ: sites with heavy videos and content may see slower performance, and Wix recommends checking pages with PageSpeed Insights.
How to switch to Wix Studio
There are 3 ways in: from your existing account, from the Wix Studio homepage, or through an invitation to join a team that already uses it. From the homepage, as of October 2026:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Sign up from the Wix Studio homepage.
- Log in with your Wix credentials.
- Click Try Wix Studio to switch.
- You'll land on the Discover page of your new workspace, where the learning resources live.
- Find your existing sites in the Sites tab. They're all there, still editable in the Wix Editor.
If you already use Wix, you'll also see prompts to switch on the Sites page, in a site's dashboard, on the Templates page and in Account Settings. If you're invited to a team, you'll get an email: accept it, log in and you're in their workspace. You can also sign up from inside the Wix app.
My verdict on Wix Studio
I'd switch to Wix Studio if you build or manage sites for clients, or you work with a team, because the workspace, permissions and reusable templates save real time on every project. Skip it if you've got one site in the Wix Editor and no plans to rebuild, because nothing about your current site changes and you'd be learning a new editor for new sites only. And if you're tempted to move an old site across, budget for a rebuild, not a migration.
If you're an agency or a small team building on Wix and want to work faster with AI, that's my world. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement, workflow automation and GEO, which is about getting your business seen and cited in AI answers. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
