Wix Alternatives (2026): 9 Website Builders Compared

Wix alternatives fall into a few types: guided all-in-one builders, hosted content platforms, visual design tools, store platforms and quick AI or one-page builders. Choose by the main job your site does, then check domain, redirect and export support. This page lists nine options in no particular order.

Wix gets a lot of small businesses online quickly, and that's a real strength. The drag-and-drop editor lets you put anything anywhere, the app market covers bookings, forms and shops, and you don't need to touch code. So why do so many owners go looking for Wix alternatives a year or two in? Usually it's one of a handful of reasons: they want a fresh design but can't swap templates on a live Wix site, the site feels slow on mobile, they want more control over their content, or the business has simply outgrown a one-size builder.

This page lists nine builders, in no particular order, and keeps each entry short on purpose. I compared each platform's features and public documentation, then grouped the options by type so you can see which kind of builder fits the job your site has to do. The rest of the page is guidance you can use whichever builder you end up with: how to choose, what to ask before you commit, and how to move without losing the traffic you've already earned.

Before you leave Wix: how to choose the right replacement

Start with the job your website has to do, not the builder's marketing. A site that exists to prove you're real and collect enquiries needs very different things from one that sells products or publishes weekly articles. Write that job down in one sentence, then use these criteria to test every option.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • The main job. Enquiries, bookings, sales, content or a portfolio? Pick the type of builder built around that job.
  • Editing style. Some builders guide you into tidy sections, others let you place anything anywhere. Guided is safer for non-designers, freeform is more flexible but easier to make messy.
  • Content tools. If you plan to publish articles, check categories, scheduling, author pages and how easily you can change page addresses.
  • Search basics. You need editable page titles, descriptions, headings, image descriptions, redirects and a sitemap.
  • Speed on mobile. Open the builder's own showcase sites on your phone and judge how quickly they load.
  • Ownership and exit. Ask what you can export and how hard it'd be to leave again. A builder that locks in your content makes the next move harder.
  • Support. Find out whether help comes by chat, email or only a help centre, and what hours it covers.

A free plan is a good way to explore, but treat it as a trial of the editor rather than a plan for your real business. Free sites normally carry the builder's branding and use its web address, which isn't what customers expect from a serious business. Where a tool offers only a trial, use the trial period to rebuild your most important page, not a throwaway test.

Questions to ask a Wix replacement before you commit

  1. Can I connect my own domain name, and does it work with the email I already use?
  2. What happens to my page addresses, and can I set up redirects from the old ones?
  3. Can I edit page titles and descriptions on every page?
  4. How do I get my blog posts, images and products across?
  5. Which features sit behind an upgrade, and are any of them ones I need on day one?
  6. If I want to leave in two years, what can I take with me?

Migrating off Wix while keeping your Google traffic

Moving is where most owners lose visitors, and it's almost always avoidable. Wix has no one-click export of a whole site, so plan it as a careful rebuild rather than a copy and paste.

  1. Make a list of every page on your current site, with its address, title and description. A spreadsheet is fine.
  2. Note which pages get visitors in Google Search Console. Those pages matter most and need extra care.
  3. Build the new site on a temporary address and keep the old one live.
  4. Keep page addresses the same wherever the new builder allows it.
  5. For any address that has to change, set up a permanent redirect from the old address to the new one.
  6. Copy across titles, descriptions, headings and image descriptions, not just the visible text.
  7. Test every form, booking link and checkout before you point your domain at the new site.
  8. Watch Search Console for a few weeks afterwards and fix any pages it reports as missing.

Expect a small wobble in visits for a week or two even when everything is done well. A big drop that doesn't recover usually means redirects are missing or page content changed more than you intended.

Matching a Wix replacement to your type of business

  • A coach, consultant or photographer: look at guided all-in-one builders with polished templates.
  • A content-led business that wants to rank with articles: look at a hosted content platform with strong publishing tools.
  • A brand that cares about design and works with a designer: look at visual design tools with layout control.
  • An online shop: look at a dedicated store platform rather than bolting a shop onto a site builder.
  • A local trade that just needs to be findable: look at the quick, guided builders and AI-assisted ones.
  • A single event, launch or profile page: a one-page builder is plenty.

Whatever you choose, remember a builder is only the container. The pages that win customers are the ones that answer a visitor's question clearly, show real proof and make the next step obvious, so put your energy into that and treat the builder as the tidy shelf it sits on.

A short checklist before you leave Wix

  • Your job-to-be-done sentence is written down.
  • You've listed every page address and noted your busiest pages.
  • You've checked domain, email and redirect support.
  • You've rebuilt one real page in the new editor, not a demo.
  • You've kept the old site live until the new one is checked.

Do you make a website builder? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

Frequently asked questions

What should I look for in a Wix alternative?

Start with the main job of your site, then check editing style, content tools, search basics such as editable titles and redirects, mobile speed, and how easily you could export your content later.

Can I move my Wix site to another builder?

Yes, but there's no one-click export of the full site. You'll copy pages and images across, import blog posts where possible, and set up redirects from your old page addresses to the new ones.

Is a self-managed site harder to use than Wix?

A little. The editors are friendly once you're used to them, but with more control comes more upkeep, such as hosting, updates and backups. Many owners find the extra control worth the learning time.

Will switching from Wix hurt my Google rankings?

It doesn't have to. Keep page addresses the same where you can, redirect the rest, carry over your titles and descriptions, and watch Google Search Console for errors after the move.

Why can't I change my Wix template?

Wix doesn't let you swap the template on a site that's already live. You can redesign pages by hand or start a new site with a new template and move your content across.
