What Is Lemon8? How the App Works and Its Link to TikTok

Lemon8 is a lifestyle content app for photo and video posts about things like beauty, food, fashion, home, travel and fitness. In the US it's provided by TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, and you can't use it on its own: Lemon8's terms say you must have a TikTok account and link it to your Lemon8 profile.

That last part is the detail most people miss, and it changes how you should think about the app. Lemon8 isn't a separate social network you can keep apart from TikTok. It sits on top of your TikTok account, follows TikTok's rules and, depending on your settings, can share your posts across both apps.

Everything here comes from Lemon8's own website and its US terms, which I read in October 2026.

What you'll find on Lemon8

Lemon8 sorts its feed into lifestyle categories rather than trending sounds or memes. The categories listed on its website are For You, Beauty, Food, Fashion, Home, Wellness, Travel, Pets, Fitness, Relationship, Reading, Photography, Cars and Outdoors.

That tells you who it's built for. If you post recipes, outfits, room makeovers, workouts or travel guides, the app is organised around exactly that kind of content. It feels closer to a visual magazine than to a fast-scrolling video app, which is why so many people compare it with Instagram and Pinterest.

Where Lemon8 is available

The region menu on Lemon8's website lists these markets:

CanadaYes
AustraliaYes
New ZealandYes

The terms I quote below are the US version. Lemon8 publishes separate terms for other regions, so if you're outside the US, read the version for your country before you rely on any of this.

Lemon8 and TikTok: the rules that matter

This is the section to read before you sign up. Under the US terms:

  • You need a TikTok account. To use Lemon8 you must have a TikTok user account and link it to your Lemon8 profile. If you don't have one, you have to create one.
  • TikTok's rules apply too. Lemon8's terms supplement TikTok's Terms of Service, and your use is also covered by TikTok's Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines.
  • Posts can cross over. Content you create on Lemon8 or TikTok may be posted and shared across the other app automatically. Each app's privacy settings still apply on that app.
  • Removing a post isn't a two-for-one. Deleting content from TikTok doesn't remove it from Lemon8, and the same is true the other way round. You manage each app separately.
  • Age limit. You must be 13 or older, and Lemon8 says it monitors for underage use on both apps.

Here's the example Lemon8 gives itself: if you post a video on Lemon8 with a public profile, that video may also appear on TikTok, and if your TikTok profile is private, the post stays private on TikTok but is still public on Lemon8. Read that twice if you keep your TikTok locked down.

How to get started on Lemon8

  1. Download Lemon8 from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in and link your TikTok account. If you don't have one yet, create a TikTok account first.
  3. Check your privacy settings in both apps, because posts can be shared across them.
  4. Pick the categories you post about, so your For You feed matches your niche.
  5. Post with a clear cover image and helpful text. Lemon8 is built for saveable, useful lifestyle posts.

Why some Lemon8 posts never reach the For You feed

Lemon8's Community Guidelines spell out three levels of action. Content that breaks the rules is removed, whether it was posted publicly or privately. Content Lemon8 considers unsuitable for younger users is restricted to people aged 18 and over. And content that doesn't meet its recommendation standards can be made ineligible for the For You feed, which Lemon8 says is never guaranteed for any post.

For business owners, one rule stands out: the guidelines don't allow content that promotes Ponzi, multi-level marketing or pyramid schemes, along with phishing. If your offer looks anything like that, expect it to be pulled.

Posting about brands on Lemon8

If you're a creator or a small business, this bit matters. Lemon8's terms say that if you post content promoting a third-party brand in exchange for payment or any other incentive, you must follow TikTok's Branded Content Policy and use clear disclosures, including any disclosure tools the app gives you. Paid ads bought through TikTok's own ad services, such as Promote or TikTok Ads Manager, have their own terms instead.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

So the same honesty rules you'd follow on TikTok follow you onto Lemon8. Don't treat it as a quieter place to post undisclosed brand deals.

Deleting a Lemon8 account

There's no simple delete button described in the terms. Lemon8 says that if you want your account deleted, you should contact it through TikTok's legal feedback form, and it will guide you through the process. Once deleted, you can't reactivate the account or get back anything you added.

If you're weighing up where else to share visual content, my roundup of Instagram alternatives compares the photo apps people move to. And if you're new to the TikTok side of things, it's worth reading my guide to a TikTok personal vs business account before you link anything.

My verdict

Lemon8 is a good fit if you make useful lifestyle content and want a feed built around categories rather than trends. Just go in with your eyes open: in the US it's run by the TikTok joint venture, it needs your TikTok account, and posts can travel between the two apps. Check your privacy settings in both places before your first post, and remember that deleting something on one app doesn't delete it on the other.
