The main alternatives to Vanta are other compliance automation platforms that collect evidence, monitor controls and prepare you for SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA audits. The category has split: some lead with fast startup compliance, others with enterprise GRC or expert-led audits. Ten options follow in no particular order.
Teams usually look past Vanta for one of three reasons. They've outgrown startup compliance and need wider risk and GRC work, they want auditors and software from one company, or they want a different way of working through the same frameworks. Each of those points to a different shortlist.
This isn't a head-to-head and it isn't a general SOC 2 software ranking. The ten platforms below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. If you're still working out why buyers ask for this at all, my piece on signs a business takes information security seriously is a good primer.
Vanta alternatives by framework and audit approach
I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means it names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Startup compliance and enterprise GRC are now different products
Here's the shift I noticed on the vendor pages. Drata now calls itself The Agentic Trust Management Platform, and Sprinto's page title reads Autonomous Trust Platform for Compliance, Risk and GRC. Hyperproof, Strike Graph and Complyance lead with GRC or enterprise compliance, while one vendor here describes itself as expert-led and pairs audits with its own platform.
So a seed-stage team chasing its first SOC 2 report and a regulated enterprise managing hundreds of controls are no longer shopping for the same thing. Decide which you are before you book a demo, because the demos look alike and the products underneath don't.
Who does the audit work: software, experts or both
- Software only. The platform connects to your cloud, HR and code tools, collects evidence automatically and keeps you audit-ready, but you hire the auditor separately.
- Software plus experts. Some vendors bundle audits, pentesting and advisory with the platform, so one company takes you from readiness to report.
- Full GRC. Risk registers, third-party risk, policy management and many frameworks at once, built for a compliance or risk team rather than a founder.
Questions that separate one compliance platform from another
- Frameworks. Does it cover the ones your buyers ask for, such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, ISO 42001 for AI or CMMC?
- Integrations. How many of your actual tools does it connect to for automatic evidence?
- Auditor choice. Can you bring your own auditor, or are you tied to the vendor's partners?
- Trust centre. Can you share your security posture with prospects and answer questionnaires from the same place?
- Third-party risk. Will it assess your own vendors, or only your internal controls?
If you sell into the UK or Europe, data protection comes up alongside SOC 2. My guide to which AI tools are GDPR compliant covers one question buyers now ask in almost every security review.

My plain advice on switching from Vanta
Be clear about what's not working before you move. If it's the audit itself, look at vendors that bundle expert auditors. If it's breadth, look at the GRC-first platforms. If it's speed to your first report, a startup-focused tool may get you there with less setup.
And plan the switch around your audit window. Moving platforms mid-audit means collecting evidence twice, so the cleanest time is straight after a report lands.

Frequently asked questions
Why do teams look for Vanta alternatives?
Usually because they need wider GRC and risk features, want audits and software from one vendor, or want a tool built for their size, whether that's an early startup or a regulated enterprise.
What's the difference between compliance automation and GRC software?
Compliance automation focuses on getting and keeping certifications such as SOC 2. GRC software also covers enterprise risk, third-party risk, policies and governance across many frameworks.
Can a compliance platform do the audit for me?
The software prepares you, but an independent auditor issues the report. Some vendors on this list offer expert-led audits alongside their platform, so one company covers both.
Which frameworks do these platforms support?
Most cover SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA. Several now add ISO 42001 for AI management, CMMC, DORA, NIS2 and PCI DSS, so check the list against what your buyers ask for.
When is the best time to switch compliance platforms?
Straight after an audit, before you start collecting evidence for the next one. Switching mid-audit means doing the evidence work twice.
