TikTok doesn't pay Australian creators a set amount per 1,000 views, because the Creator Rewards Program isn't open in Australia. Aussie creators earn from TikTok through brand campaigns, LIVE Gifts and Subscription instead, and their audience has changed since Australia's under-16 social media law took effect.
Australian creators ask me this with a slight sense of injustice, and I get it. Creators in the UK, Germany and France can earn per view on TikTok, yet a creator in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with the same reach earns nothing from views. Let me explain why, what's changed in Australia recently, and where the money comes from.
Creator Rewards and the Australian gap
According to TikTok's Creator Academy, the Creator Rewards Program is open to creators based in Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States, with an account registered in that country. Australia isn't on the list, so Australian accounts can't apply regardless of followers or views.
The same eight countries decide which views count. A qualified view must come from one of them, run for at least five seconds and exclude paid or fraudulent plays. So Australian viewers don't add to anyone's per-view rewards, even on an eligible UK or US account.
How Australia's under-16 rule changes your audience
This is the most Australian part of the story. The social media minimum age law bars under-16s from holding accounts on age-restricted platforms, and TikTok is named alongside YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat. The restrictions took effect on 10 December, 2025.
For creators, that changes who's watching. If your content leaned towards young teens, some of that audience can no longer hold accounts. If you make content for adults, it may matter less. TikTok's guide to audience commercial value says older viewers often carry stronger purchasing power, and brands weigh that when they decide where to spend. Check the age split in your analytics before you pitch, because an older Australian audience is easier to sell to brands.
TikTok has also been banned on Australian government devices since 4 April, 2023. That doesn't affect ordinary users, but it's worth knowing if you work with public sector clients.
Where Aussie TikTok creators earn
Brand deals
Most TikTok income in Australia comes from brands paying creators directly. Local brands, tourism bodies and retailers all book creators, and TikTok One is the app's own hub for campaigns. A media kit with reach, audience location and age, and examples of past results, makes pricing far easier.
LIVE Gifts
Once you're 18 or the age of majority, you can go LIVE and switch on Gifts. Your viewers send Gifts, you collect Diamonds, and TikTok converts those at a rate it sets. TikTok's Going LIVE guide says rewards go to an external bank or PayPal account depending on region.
Subscription
Fans pay a monthly fee from TikTok's price tiers in their own currency, and TikTok says you keep 70% after app store fees. Subscription suits creators with a loyal niche, such as fitness coaching, gaming or cooking.
Getting paid in Australian dollars
The Australian dollar is the official currency, but TikTok says the payout currency depends on the payment method you select. Payout cycles run weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on the programme, and you'll need a payment method, tax information and identity verification before a payout date appears. A minimum payout threshold may apply, and you can adjust it in the Balance settings.

TikTok notes that rewards may be taxable under local laws and that it can't give personal tax advice. An Australian accountant can help with your own return.
What a million views means for an Australian account
A million views in Australia won't trigger a TikTok payment on its own. What it gives you is a stronger hand in brand talks. Brands care about whether those viewers were Australian adults in their target market, how many watched to the end and whether people shared or saved the video. A creator whose viral clip reached local buyers can use it to lift their rate for the next few deals. A creator whose clip went viral overseas, among viewers the brand can't sell to, will get less from it. Either way, write down what made the video work so you can repeat it.
Comparing YouTube and Facebook in Australia
YouTube is the platform where Australian views pay. Australia is on both the YouTube Partner Program list and the expanded programme list, and the AdSense payment threshold in Australian dollars is AUD 100. Australia is also on the IRS list of US income tax treaties, which affects withholding on YouTube earnings from American viewers. My guides on what YouTube pays Australian creators and Facebook earnings in Australia go into detail.
Canada is in a very similar spot, so my page on TikTok pay for Canadian creators is a useful comparison.
