Why Is TikTok Not Showing My Videos to Anyone? The Real Reasons

The short version: the most common cause is a video that tripped Community Guidelines or a setting that's quietly limiting your reach, most often "Suggest your account to others" being switched off, a fresh account still in its trust building period, or a video the app has marked as ineligible for the For You feed. Start by checking your video's status under Creator tools before you touch anything else.

Check whether the video was restricted

Open the video, tap the three dots, and look for a line that says the video's reach has been reduced, or that it isn't eligible for recommendation. TikTok shows this on videos that breach a guideline but weren't removed outright, things like a copyrighted sound, text overlay that reads as spam, or a caption stuffed with unrelated hashtags. If you see that message, the fix is to delete that specific video and repost with a clean caption and an original or cleared sound. Reposting the exact same file rarely changes anything because the system is judging the content, not the upload.

It helps to look at the pattern across your last five or six uploads rather than just the newest one. If only a single video underperformed while the rest sat at a normal range for your account, that points to something specific about that clip, a weak first frame, a sound that got pulled, or a caption that read as spam. If every recent upload is flat, the cause sits with the account, not any one video, and the settings below matter more than the content itself.

Check your account status and any strikes

Go to your profile, tap the menu icon, then Settings and privacy, then Account, and look for Account status. This page lists any video removals, strikes, or restrictions in the last 90 days. A single strike is usually a warning and won't tank reach on its own, but two or three in a short window can trigger what most creators call a shadow ban, where videos still post and are visible to your existing followers but stop appearing in For You for anyone else. There's no toggle labelled "shadow ban" because TikTok doesn't officially use the term, but the account status page is the closest thing to a diagnosis you'll get.

Pay attention to the category of each strike listed, not just the number. A strike for a community guideline breach behaves differently to a strike for spam behaviour, such as posting the same caption across many videos in a short window, or following and unfollowing large numbers of accounts quickly. Spam related strikes tend to clear faster once the behaviour stops, while content related strikes stay tied to the specific video and its category for longer.

Check your privacy and discoverability settings

Under Settings and privacy, tap Privacy, then scroll to the section covering your content. Confirm your account is set to Public, not Private, because private accounts are never eligible for the For You feed no matter how good the video is. Below that, look for "Suggest your account to others". If this has been turned off, either by you or by a device reset, TikTok will still show your videos to people who already follow you but will stop pushing your account to new people. Turn it back on and give it 24 to 48 hours before judging results.

Also check Content preferences under the same Privacy menu, since a filter here can quietly restrict certain topics or keywords from being distributed to you and, in some account setups, from your own uploads being categorised correctly. This is a less common cause than the discoverability toggle, but worth ruling out if everything else checks out clean.

Check whether you're still in the new account window

Accounts under about 30 days old, or accounts that just crossed 1,000 followers, sometimes see a temporary dip while TikTok recalculates who to show the account to. This isn't a punishment, it's the algorithm re-testing your content against a wider audience pool. Posting consistently through this window, rather than stopping because numbers look flat, is what gets you through it fastest. Creators who pause posting during this stage often see the dip last longer, simply because there's no fresh data for the system to re-test against.

How to check and fix it on iPhone

  1. Open the TikTok app and tap Profile in the bottom right.
  2. Tap the three-line menu icon top right, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Account, then Account status, and read any notices listed there.
  4. Go back, tap Privacy, and check the account is Public.
  5. Scroll to "Suggest your account to others" and switch it on if it's off.
  6. Under Content preferences, check that no filters are blocking your own uploads, which is rare but worth ruling out.

How to check and fix it on Android

  1. The menu layout is identical to iPhone: Profile, then the three-line icon, then Settings and privacy.
  2. Android users occasionally lose the discoverability toggle after an app update, so if "Suggest your account to others" isn't visible, force close the app, then reopen it and check again.
  3. Clear the app cache under your phone's own Settings, then Apps, then TikTok, then Storage, then Clear cache. This does not delete your account or videos, it only clears temporary files, and it can resolve display bugs where settings appear stuck.

How to check it on desktop

Log in at the TikTok website, click your profile picture top right, then Settings, then Privacy. The same toggles are there in a slightly different layout. Desktop is also the easiest place to review your posted videos in a grid and spot which ones show a small icon or note indicating reduced reach, since the icons are easier to see on a larger screen. If you manage the account for a client or a brand, desktop is also where you'll find the fuller analytics export, which is worth pulling before and after any setting change so you have a clean before-and-after comparison rather than relying on memory.

What doesn't fix this (the myths)

  • Deleting and re-registering the exact same account does not reset anything, TikTok ties reach signals to the device and phone number too, not just the username.
  • Buying followers or views makes reach worse, not better, because the algorithm reads a sudden spike from low quality accounts as a red flag.
  • Posting five times in one hour to beat the algorithm does not help, and can read as spam behaviour if the videos are near duplicates.
  • There is no secret hashtag that forces the For You feed to pick up a video. Hashtags help categorisation, they don't buy reach.
  • Switching your account to a Pro or Business account does not itself increase reach, it only adds analytics.
  • Posting at a single "magic hour" that worked for someone else's account has no guaranteed effect on yours, since the ranking is based on your own audience's activity patterns, not a universal best time.

When to contact TikTok support

Contact support through the app, using Settings and privacy, then Report a problem, when your account status page shows a permanent restriction with no reason given, when you believe a video was removed in error, or when reach has stayed flat for more than two weeks despite consistent posting, a public account, and discoverability switched on. Include your username, the dates the drop started, and screenshots of the account status page. Appeals through the in-app Report a problem flow get a human review; general complaints in reviews or on other platforms don't carry the same weight and rarely get a direct response.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a TikTok shadow ban usually last?

Most informal restrictions clear within a few days to two weeks if you stop posting anything that triggered the original flag and keep your account public with discoverability switched on. If it's tied to a Community Guidelines strike, the strike itself typically expires after 90 days, though the impact on reach can ease sooner once you've posted clean content consistently.

Does deleting a flagged video help?

Yes, if the video itself carries the restriction, such as a copyrighted sound or a policy breach, removing it stops that specific video from dragging down how the algorithm treats your account going forward. It won't retroactively fix views the video already missed out on, but it can stop the pattern repeating.

Why did my views drop after I posted consistently for weeks?

This is often the new-account re-testing window mentioned above, or a change in your recent content's watch time and completion rate. TikTok weighs how long people watch and whether they watch to the end more heavily than likes or comments, so a run of videos with a weak first three seconds will lower reach even with no rule broken at all.

Does using trending sounds guarantee more reach?

No. Trending sounds can help discovery because they're already in circulation, but if the video itself doesn't hold attention, the algorithm still won't push it further. Sound is one input among many, not an override.

Can switching to a Business account cause a drop in views?

Not by itself. A Business or Pro account only changes what analytics you can see, it doesn't change how the recommendation system treats your content. If a drop happened around the same time you switched account type, look for another cause first, most likely a video that broke a guideline or a discoverability setting that got reset during the switch.
