As of October 2026, Thinkific's Start plan is $109 a month, Grow is $219 a month and Expand is $499 a month on monthly billing. Billed annually, they're $82, $164 and $374 a month. Thinkific has no free plan, but every account starts with a 30-day free trial.
Thinkific is a course and community platform popular with coaches, trainers and businesses that teach. Its pricing is cleaner than most, with three main plans and a clear annual saving on each. The main decision is whether you need Grow's branding removal and support or whether Start does the job.

| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Annual saving shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | $109 a month | $82 a month | $330 |

Thinkific labels Grow its most popular plan.
What Start includes
- Unlimited courses with video lessons, multimedia and student discussions.
- Live cohorts and coaching, with unlimited Zoom sessions, bookable calendars and attendance tracking.
- Quizzes, assignments and branded certificates.
- Bundles, upsells and payment plans.
- Memberships and subscriptions for ongoing access to a course library.
- A custom domain for your school or academy.
That's a lot for an entry plan. You can run a real course business on Start, including memberships and payment plans.
What Grow adds
- Removes Thinkific branding across your website and products.
- 3 communities, so you can separate audiences by topic, level or free and paid.
- Exams and question banks.
- B2B sales and invoicing, so companies can buy bulk seats and pay by invoice.
- Phone and priority chat support.
- API access and webhooks.
- Student engagement reports showing where learners get stuck.
For businesses selling training to other companies, the B2B invoicing on Grow is the standout. Corporate buyers often can't pay by card, and invoicing removes that barrier.
What Expand adds
Expand is for established teams. It adds 10 communities with 200 community spaces, end-to-end support for migration, setup and launch, an AI teaching assistant that answers learners' questions, single sign-on, and learning paths with SCORM support.
The branded mobile app add-on
Thinkific sells a branded mobile app for your courses and community as an add-on at $199 a month, which you activate from your Thinkific admin. Its page says the app is included on select Plus plans. If you want students learning on their phones under your brand, add this to your budget.
Communities and branding by plan
Thinkific's comparison table lists 1 community on Start, 3 on Grow, 10 on Expand and unlimited on its Plus plans, with Expand also listing 200 community spaces. If your offer depends on separate members' groups, such as a free community and a paid one, Start's single community is the limit to check first.
The same table lists 10,000 current students on Start, Grow and Expand, counting unique students who currently have unexpired access to at least one course. For most small course businesses that's plenty, and it's the same on all three plans, so it won't decide your choice.
Branding is the other line to watch: Start keeps Thinkific's branding on your site and products, and Grow is the first plan that removes it.
Payment processing
Thinkific has its own payment processor, Thinkific Payments, which handles payments, subscriptions and reporting in one place. Its FAQ says third-party payment gateway fees apply if you're based in select countries, and customers using Thinkific Payments don't pay that third-party gateway fee. If you're outside the US, check Thinkific's fee page for your country before you launch.
Thinkific or a cheaper course host?
Thinkific isn't the cheapest place to host a course, but Start includes things other platforms keep for higher tiers: memberships, payment plans, live cohorts with unlimited Zoom sessions and a custom domain. If you only sell one recorded course, a simpler tool may be enough. If you plan to run cohorts, memberships or coaching alongside courses, Start covers more than its price suggests.
It's also worth remembering what you won't need to buy separately: quizzes, certificates and student discussions are all on the entry plan.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The free trial
Thinkific says every account starts with a 30-day free trial, so you can build courses, host communities and test its AI tools before paying. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel on Start, Grow or Expand at any time, including during the trial. I'd build your first full course during the trial rather than just clicking around, because that's when you'll find out whether the editor suits you.
How to choose a Thinkific plan
- Use the 30-day trial to build one complete course.
- Selling to individuals with one brand: Start.
- You want your own branding only, or you sell to companies: Grow.
- You need several communities, single sign-on or SCORM: Expand.
- Switch to annual billing once you're sure, to get the lower monthly rate.

My verdict
Start at $109 a month, or $82 billed annually, gives a solo coach everything needed to sell courses and memberships, which is good value in this category. Grow is worth the step up if you want Thinkific's branding gone or you sell training to businesses that pay by invoice. Use the full 30 days of the trial to build something real before you commit to annual billing.
