Telegram Premium is an optional paid subscription that adds extras such as 4 GB file uploads, faster downloads, no ads in channels, voice-to-text and real-time translation. There's no single price: Telegram says it varies by country and by where you subscribe, and buying through @PremiumBot is cheaper than the App Store or Google Play.
Everything below comes from Telegram's own Premium FAQ, as of Nov 2026. I'm not printing a price because Telegram doesn't publish one fixed figure, and any number I gave you would be wrong for someone. Check the price your own app or @PremiumBot shows.
What Premium adds
Telegram's FAQ lists what every Premium user gets at the moment:
- Doubled limits
- 4 GB file uploads
- Faster download speed
- Voice-to-text conversion, including for video messages
- Premium stickers, unique reactions and custom emoji
- Advanced chat management
- Animated profile pictures, profile badges, emoji statuses and premium app icons
- No ads
- Voice message privacy settings
- Real-time chat and channel translation
Telegram says the @Premium channel has a detailed description of each feature. A few of these need a caveat, so here's the fine print on the ones people ask about most.
| Feature | Free | Premium | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| File size | Up to 2 GB per file | Up to 4 GB per file | Anyone can download 4 GB files a Premium user uploads |
| Ads in channels | Telegram's channel ads can appear in some large public channels | Hidden | Channel admins' own promo posts still show |
| Download speed | Standard | Telegram lifts its own speed limits | Your hardware or internet provider can still slow you down |
| Badge | None | Shown next to your name | You can't turn it off at the moment |
Two of those catches are worth spelling out. On ads: Telegram shows its own minimal, non-targeted ads in some large public channels with a lot of subscribers, and Premium hides them. But if a channel admin posts a promotion as a normal message, that's outside Telegram's control and you'll still see it. On speed: Telegram says subscribing lifts download limits on its side, and if things don't get faster, the limit's somewhere else, like your device or provider.
What stays free
Premium doesn't take anything away from free users. Telegram says every feature that existed before Premium launched stays free, including unlimited cloud storage, large groups and channels, voice and video calls, multiple devices and accounts, and tens of thousands of stickers. It also says future updates will keep adding features for everyone. I've covered the free side in my answer to whether Telegram is free.
Free users also get some Premium perks second-hand. Anyone can download the large files a Premium user uploads, watch premium sticker animations, and tap to add to a premium reaction someone else has already put on a message.
Why the price isn't the same for everyone
Telegram says it tries to keep the cost as consistent as possible, but allows slight variations to reflect local living standards. The price you see can also include store or third-party fees, local taxes and other fees outside Telegram's control. That's why two people in different countries, or on different apps, see different figures.
Here's what moves the price, according to the FAQ:
- Where you buy. @PremiumBot is cheaper because payments there aren't subject to Apple or Google fees. Telegram says @PremiumBot purchases are discounted by default.
- How long you buy for. Yearly subscriptions come at a significant discount.
- Your country. Through @PremiumBot, your first payment's currency and price follow the country code of your Telegram phone number. After that, payments follow the country of your payment method, which needs to be issued there with a local billing address to get local pricing.
- Gifts. Gifted subscriptions use the global rate, so they can be sent between any countries.
One catch: @PremiumBot only works in the direct versions of Telegram's Android, Desktop and macOS apps. If you downloaded Telegram from the App Store or Google Play, the bot won't work for you there.
How to subscribe, gift or cancel
To subscribe in the app:
- Open Telegram Settings.
- Tap Telegram Premium.
- Choose your plan and pay through the App Store or Google Play, or use @PremiumBot in a direct app for the discounted route.
Premium is tied to one Telegram account and works on every device that account uses. You can't move it to another account, but you can change the phone number on your account without losing it. One Apple ID or Google account supports only one ongoing subscription, so for extra Telegram accounts Telegram points you to @PremiumBot.
To gift it, you need to be a subscriber yourself. Open any user's profile and tap Gift Premium to send a prepaid 3, 6 or 12 months at a discounted rate.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
To cancel, go back to whoever you paid. In @PremiumBot, send the /stop command. On Google Play, tap your avatar, then Payments and subscription, then Subscriptions. On iOS, go to your iOS Settings, then Apple ID Settings, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything, and if you paid through Apple or Google, deleting your Telegram account won't stop those charges either. You keep the features until the end of the billing period. After that, your first 10 folders keep working, GIFs past 200 are hidden, only the first 70 characters of a long bio show, and only your first 5 pinned chats stay pinned.
Channel boosts and the business angle
This is where Premium matters for a brand. You can't buy Premium for a channel, but Telegram says channels can level up by receiving boosts from Premium subscribers. Each level lets a channel post 1 more story per day and add 1 more custom reaction, and higher levels add options such as emoji status, themes and custom wallpapers.
You get boosts three ways: share your channel's boost link with subscribers, run a giveaway, which gives you all 4 boosts from each Premium subscription given away, or gift Premium to friends and contacts, which gives you 3 boosts per gift to assign to your channel. Telegram says the number of boosts a channel needs depends on its subscriber count. If you haven't set up a channel yet, start with my guide to creating a Telegram channel.
Is Telegram Premium worth it?
I'd pay for it if you send big files often, run a Telegram channel you want to level up, or chat across languages and would use translation every day. I'd buy through @PremiumBot on a direct app if you can, and go yearly once you know you'll keep it. Everyone else can skip it: the free app already does what most businesses need, and Telegram says it'll keep adding free features.
If your brand has a Telegram channel and you're working out what's worth paying for, that's the sort of channel planning I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
