Slack apps for customer support do one of three jobs: turn shared customer channels into a tracked queue, pull Slack messages into a helpdesk you already run, or answer repeat questions before they become tickets. Pick by the job, then check whether the app works inside the shared channels you run with customers, because a notification bot can't reply to anyone.
Are your customers already talking to you in Slack, and are their messages getting lost between threads? That's the question most support teams are really asking when they search for Slack apps, and the answer depends on where in the Slack flow you need help.
I've grouped nine apps by the seat they take in that flow rather than ranking them. They come from each vendor's own site, they're in no particular order, and where a vendor makes a claim, I've said it's theirs.
Three seats in the Slack support flow
The customer channel becomes the queue
These are built for B2B teams who run a shared channel with each customer. Plain says its app goes into Slack Connect channels so messages sync into one support queue. Pylon lists Slack as a ticketing channel and adds an agent for it, Thena calls itself Slack-native support with triage and routing, and Unthread says it's built natively for Slack and Teams. Neither of the last three states shared-channel support on its own site, so ask before you sign.
Your helpdesk reaches into Slack
If you already run a helpdesk or shared inbox, these bring Slack into it. Hiver turns Slack messages into helpdesk conversations. Front connects public, private and Slack Connect shared channels to its shared inbox. FreeScout is the outlier: its Slack module sends one-way notifications to public channels, one workspace per install, so your team sees new tickets in Slack but replies from the help desk.
Answers before there's a ticket
Question Base and Tettra aren't ticketing tools at all. They're answer bots that reply to repeat questions inside Slack from documentation you already have. They cut the volume reaching your team; they don't track or assign what's left.
Shared channels decide more than features do
Customer conversations in Slack mostly live in Slack Connect, the shared channels two companies run together. An app that only watches your own workspace can't see those messages, and a bot that only posts alerts can't answer them. Before you compare anything else, find out whether each app can sit inside a shared channel and reply from it.
Only two vendors here say so plainly on their own pages. For the rest, it's not stated, which isn't the same as no. Put the question to their sales team in writing.
What your Slack admin controls
Slack apps can only reach what your workspace admin approves. If your admin restricts app installs, none of these will work until they sign it off, and some ask for wide permissions to read channel history. Bring your admin in early, and show them the scopes each app requests.

The nine apps, in no particular order
FreeScout
Best for: Teams running their own open source help desk who want new conversations, replies and assignments posted to chosen public Slack channels, one workspace per install.
Front
Best for: Support teams on a shared inbox who want public, private and Slack Connect shared channels brought in beside email and SMS, per its integration page.
Hiver
Best for: Helpdesk teams wanting customer Slack conversations in the same ticket queue as email and chat, with ownership and context; the vendor says one channel or thousands works.
Plain
Best for: B2B support teams whose customers live in Slack channels: add its bot to the channels you want tracked and they feed one queue with assignment and SLA alerts.
Pylon
Best for: B2B support and customer success teams taking requests from Slack, Teams, email, chat, SMS, WhatsApp and phone, with each one tied to the account record.
Question Base
Best for: Cutting repeat questions before they reach your support or expert team: an AI answer agent that replies inside Slack from the documentation you already have.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Tettra
Best for: Teams with answers spread across Google Docs, PDFs or wiki pages who want a Slack bot replying to repeat questions in channels and DMs, support included.
Thena
Best for: Customer-facing teams that need requests spotted in Slack and turned into trackable tickets, with what the vendor calls auto-triage and routing, alongside email and chat.
Unthread
Best for: Companies handling internal and customer requests in chat: a helpdesk the vendor says is built natively for Slack and Teams, with AI agents and a knowledge base.
My advice for support leads
If most of your customers are businesses who expect to reach you in a shared channel, start with the apps built around customer channels, and confirm shared-channel replies before anything else. If Slack is only one channel among email, chat and phone, keep your helpdesk at the centre and add Slack to it, rather than moving your whole queue into chat.
And if your team spends its day answering the same questions, try an answer bot first. It's the smallest change, and it'll tell you quickly whether your documentation is good enough to answer customers without a person in the loop. Rolling an app out without upsetting the workspace
- Start with one customer channel, ideally a friendly account who won't mind if a message slips through while you learn.
- Agree what an emoji or reply means. Teams that use reactions to mark tickets need everyone to use them the same way.
- Tell customers what's changing, especially if a bot starts posting in their channel.
- Check your reporting after two weeks, and compare response times against your old way of working before you widen the rollout.

Frequently asked questions
Can customer support run entirely inside Slack?
For B2B teams whose customers already use shared channels, a good part of it can. Most teams still keep email or a portal for customers who don't use Slack, and for anything that needs a formal record.
What is Slack Connect and why does it matter for support?
Slack Connect lets two organisations share a channel. It's where many B2B customer conversations happen, so a support app needs to work inside those shared channels to see and answer them.
Do Slack support apps need admin approval?
Yes. Slack apps can only be installed and reach channels that your workspace admin allows, so check your workspace's app rules before you plan a rollout.
Is an answer bot the same as a ticketing app?
No. An answer bot replies to common questions from your documentation. A ticketing app tracks, assigns and reports on requests. Some teams use both, with the bot handling repeat questions first.
Can my team reply to customers from a Slack notification?
Not when the integration only posts notifications. In that case your team sees the alert in Slack and replies from the help desk itself. Check whether an app is one-way or two-way before you choose it.
Will a Slack support app work with Microsoft Teams too?
Some do. Several vendors on this list name Teams alongside Slack on their own pages, so check the integrations page if your customers use both.
