PostHog Alternatives (2026): 10 Analytics Tools

A good PostHog alternative gives you the analytics you need, whether that's product funnels, session replay, experiments or simple web stats, with limits that fit how many events you send. Check what the free plan includes, how usage is counted and whether you can self-host. This page lists ten options in no particular order.

PostHog has become the default all-in-one product toolkit for a lot of startups: analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys under one roof. That breadth is the reason some teams love it and the reason others look for something more focused.

Below are ten PostHog alternatives in no particular order, sorted alphabetically, from dedicated product analytics to lightweight privacy-first web stats. Each description comes from the tool's own website, re-checked today. If you're still working out what product analytics should tell you, my guide to using product analytics covers the questions to start with.

PostHog alternatives at a glance

In the free plan column, Yes means the tool's own site describes a free plan, Trial only means a time-limited trial without an ongoing free tier, and No means the site doesn't state either.

How PostHog's free allowance works, and why it matters when you compare

Here's the detail that shapes the comparison. PostHog's own plans page says each product has a free allowance every month that resets monthly, and it's the same whether or not you've added a card. That means a fair comparison isn't feature against feature; it's your real monthly volume of events, recordings and flag checks against each tool's free limits.

Before you move, pull the previous month's usage from PostHog and write it down. Then check each alternative against those numbers, not against its headline.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Which PostHog alternative fits which need

  • Product funnels and retention: dedicated product analytics tools.
  • Watching sessions: replay-first tools.
  • Feature flags and experiments: experimentation platforms.
  • Simple website traffic: privacy-first counters.
  • Data ownership: open source tools you self-host.

Moving off PostHog without losing history

  1. Export the reports and dashboards you rely on, with screenshots of key charts.
  2. List the events you track and remove the ones nobody uses.
  3. Run the new tool alongside PostHog for a month.
  4. Rebuild your three most important funnels and compare the numbers.
  5. Switch off the old tracking only when the new numbers make sense.

Questions to ask every PostHog alternative

  1. How are events, sessions or users counted on the free plan?
  2. What happens when you go over the limit in a month?
  3. Can you keep raw data, or only reports?
  4. Where is the data stored, and can you choose the region?
  5. How easy is it to send data to your warehouse?

If you'd like help turning the numbers into decisions, my analytics insight prompt pack gives you ready-made prompts for summarising dashboards with AI.

Whichever tool you choose, name your events clearly and write the definitions down. Clean event names are worth more than any feature.

Self-hosting a PostHog alternative: what it involves

Open source analytics is tempting when you want full control of your data. It's worth being honest about the work. You'll need a server sized for your traffic, a plan for updates and backups, and someone who'll notice when the database fills up. For a small team, that can quietly become a part-time job.

Hosted plans take that work away, and many offer a region choice so data stays where you need it. If data location is the reason you're considering self-hosting, check whether a hosted option in your region solves the problem first. It's often the simpler answer.

If you do self-host, start small. Point a single project at it, watch how it behaves for a month, and only then move everything across.

Do you make product analytics or experimentation software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on choosing a PostHog alternative

Decide which single job you most need, whether that's funnels, replay, experiments or simple traffic, and pick the tool that does that job best within your real monthly volume. All-in-one is only better if you use most of it.

It's fine to combine two focused tools, too. A replay tool plus a simple analytics tool can be easier to live with than one platform you only half understand.
