NordVPN Price: Basic, Complete and Prime Plans Compared

As of October 2026, NordVPN costs from $3.49 a month for Basic on the 2 year plan, paid upfront as $94.23 for the first 27 months. On the 1 month plan, Basic is $14.99, Complete is $19.99 and Prime is $29.99 a month.

NordVPN sells three plans across three lengths, and the gap between the cheapest and dearest way to buy the same plan is wide. The monthly figures on the pricing page are averages for long plans you pay in full at the start, so the number to watch is the upfront total and what it renews at. Here's every figure from NordVPN's own pages.

NordVPN prices by plan and term

Plan2 year plan (27 months)1 year plan (15 months)1 month plan
Basic$3.49 a month, $94.23 upfront$4.99 a month, $74.85 upfront$14.99 a month
Complete$3.99 a month, $107.73 upfront$5.99 a month, $89.85 upfront$19.99 a month
Prime$6.99 a month, $188.73 upfront$8.99 a month, $134.85 upfront$29.99 a month

The 2 year and 1 year plans currently include 3 extra months, which is why they run 27 and 15 months. NordVPN's support article confirms that 2 year and 1 year plans must be paid in full at purchase; only the 1 month plan is billed monthly. Sales tax may apply on top.

What you pay at renewal

This is the figure the headline price hides. NordVPN's Basic 2 year offer page says the plan renews at $139.08 a year (currently), and its offer terms explain that the introductory price is only valid for the first period of your subscription. After that, the plan renews automatically at the then applicable renewal price, which may be higher than the introductory price and can change.

NordVPN bills annual renewals up to 14 days before the renewal date, and for plans longer than a month it says it always emails you before the charge. If you don't want to renew, cancel the auto renewal in your Nord Account; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

A dedicated IP and Incogni data removal are optional add-ons on every plan, chosen at checkout. Bank transaction monitoring is listed on Complete and Prime and is only available for US bank accounts.

The 1 year plan can cost less upfront

Here's a quirk worth spotting. The 2 year plan has the lowest monthly average, but the 1 year plan asks for less at checkout: Basic is $74.85 upfront for 15 months against $94.23 for 27 months. If cash flow matters more than squeezing the lowest average, the shorter plan gets you started for less, and you can decide about a longer commitment once you know you'll keep using it.

Which plan is worth it?

Basic is the plan if all you want is a VPN for public WiFi, streaming abroad or privacy on up to 10 devices. Complete only costs a little more on the long plans and adds a password manager, cloud storage and the desktop malware and ad blocking tools, so it's worth it if you'd otherwise pay separately for those. Prime is built around identity protection for US buyers: insurance and credit monitoring rather than anything the VPN itself does better.

How to buy NordVPN for less

  1. Decide on the plan first, then compare the upfront total, not the monthly average.
  2. Take the 2 year plan only if you'll use a VPN for that long; it's the lowest introductory rate.
  3. Note the renewal price in your calendar before the first term ends.
  4. Use the 30 day refund guarantee to test speeds and streaming before you're locked in.
  5. Skip add-ons at checkout unless you need a fixed IP address or data removal.

My verdict

NordVPN's long plans are good value for the first term, and Complete is the plan I'd pick for most small business owners because the password manager alone earns its place. Just go in with your eyes open: the low monthly number is an average of a big upfront payment, and the renewal is higher. Put the renewal date in your diary and decide then whether to stay, switch plan or shop around.
