LinkedIn Recruiter Lite is LinkedIn's entry-level hiring tool for individuals, self-employed recruiters and small businesses that only hire a few people a year. It lets you search and message candidates up to your 3rd-degree network, with 20 search filters and 30 InMail messages a month, and you can buy it monthly or yearly and cancel any time.
The single biggest limit is the network one. Recruiter Lite can't see the whole of LinkedIn: it stops at your 3rd-degree connections. Full Recruiter has unlimited access to every member. If the people you need are outside your network, that's the line that matters.
Everything below comes from LinkedIn's own Recruiter Lite page and its Recruiter Help Center, read in October 2026.
What Recruiter Lite includes
- Search: find candidates in your 1st, 2nd and 3rd-degree LinkedIn network.
- Filters: LinkedIn's help centre lists 20 search filters for Recruiter Lite, plus saved search alerts and daily candidate recommendations.
- InMail: 30 InMail messages a month to message candidates directly, with saved templates. You can buy more credits if you run out.
- Projects: organise candidates into projects and share them with colleagues.
- Reports: standard InMail and Jobs performance reports.
- Search alerts: up to 10 per seat, daily or weekly.
Recruiter Lite vs Recruiter: the differences that matter
LinkedIn publishes a side-by-side comparison. These are the rows most small businesses care about:
| Feature | Recruiter Lite | Recruiter |
|---|---|---|
| Network access | Up to your 3rd-degree connections | Full access to the entire network |
| Search filters | 20 | 40+, including years at current company and spoken languages |
| InMail | 30 messages a month | 150 credits a month, per seat |
| Open to contract work filter | No | Yes |
| Candidate and company insights | No | Yes |
| Candidate tags | No | Yes |
| Search alerts | Max 10 per seat | Max 50 |
| ATS integration | Not listed | 28+ partners |
| Who it suits | Individuals and small businesses with light hiring needs | Mid-market to enterprise teams |
There are also two plans built for staffing agencies, Recruiter Professional Services and RPS+. They sit in between: 3rd-degree access plus a monthly allowance of out-of-network profile views (30 for RPS, 50 for RPS+), with 100 and 140 InMail credits a month per seat respectively.
Can a small team share Recruiter Lite?
Yes, within limits. LinkedIn says a Recruiter Lite team starts with one included licence for a recruiter or administrator, and you can add licences for up to four more team members at extra cost. That makes five people at most. Beyond that, you're in full Recruiter territory.
Admins can park a licence, reassign it or assign it to a new user from LinkedIn's Admin Center, which helps when someone leaves or a hiring push ends.
How to buy and cancel Recruiter Lite
- Sign up for Recruiter Lite online from LinkedIn's Talent Solutions site. LinkedIn says first-time sign-ups may be eligible for a free trial.
- Choose a monthly or yearly subscription.
- Set up your team in the Admin Center if others need access.
- To stop, cancel the subscription from your billing settings. LinkedIn says you can cancel at any time.
Read the cancellation step carefully before you sign up. LinkedIn's help centre lists cancelling a Recruiter Lite subscription with the note "permanent data deletion", so export or note any projects and candidate details you want to keep before you cancel. LinkedIn also notes Recruiter Lite isn't currently available to members in China.
Is Recruiter Lite the same as LinkedIn Premium?
No. Premium plans are aimed at job seekers, networkers and sales people, while Recruiter Lite is a separate hiring tool with its own search, InMail and projects. If you're deciding between paid LinkedIn plans in general, my comparison of LinkedIn Premium vs Sales Navigator covers the other side of the menu. And if you're on the candidate side, here's how to find recruiters on LinkedIn.
How to get more out of your 30 InMails
InMail is the part of Recruiter Lite you'll run out of first, so treat it as a budget. A few habits help:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Save searches with alerts so new matches come to you, rather than re-running the same search every morning.
- Use saved templates as a starting point, then add one line about why that person stood out. A template sent unchanged reads like one.
- Check the InMail Report, which Recruiter Lite can generate, to see which messages get replies and adjust your wording.
- If a hiring push needs more, LinkedIn lets you purchase additional InMail credits for your Recruiter Lite account rather than upgrading the whole plan.
LinkedIn's product page also shows what you give up compared with full Recruiter: sending up to 25 messages at once, free collaboration licences for hiring managers, and custom reporting and pipeline analytics. If you find yourself wishing for all three, that's your signal to talk to LinkedIn about the bigger plan.
Who should use Recruiter Lite
LinkedIn's own description is the best guide: it's for individuals hiring just a few people a year who need basic sourcing. If you're a founder making your first two or three hires, a small agency owner filling the odd role, or a freelancer who recruits on the side, Recruiter Lite covers you. If you need to reach people far outside your network, send bulk messages or connect an ATS, it won't.
My verdict
Recruiter Lite is a sensible tool for occasional hiring, and the free trial makes it easy to test on a live role. Before you commit, check how big your 3rd-degree network is in your sector, because that's the ceiling on who you can find. Use the 30 InMails on your strongest matches, not a scattergun, and save anything you need before you cancel, because LinkedIn deletes the data.
