To find recruiters on LinkedIn, search the main bar for a phrase such as "recruiter" AND marketing, filter the results to people, and add your city or industry. Then check the Meet the hiring team box on any job post you like, because LinkedIn shows the job poster and the hiring team there, and you can connect with or message them directly.
There are two ways in. You can go looking for recruiters, and you can make it easy for recruiters to find you. It's worth doing both.
Below are the search tricks LinkedIn supports, where hiring teams show up, the Open to Work setting recruiters search on, and how to message someone you're not connected to. Every rule here comes from LinkedIn Help, read in October 2026.
1. Search for recruiters with Boolean search
LinkedIn lets you type Boolean searches straight into the main search bar. That's the fastest way to find recruiters who hire for your field. LinkedIn's rules:
| Operator | What it does | Example for finding recruiters |
|---|---|---|
| Quotes | Exact phrase | "technical recruiter" |
| AND | Must include every term | recruiter AND fintech |
| OR | Any of the terms | recruiter OR "talent acquisition" |
| NOT | Excludes a term | recruiter NOT intern |
| Parentheses | Groups terms | (recruiter OR "talent partner") AND London |
AND, OR and NOT only work in capital letters. LinkedIn doesn't support wildcards like asterisks, square brackets, curly braces or angle brackets, and it says plus and minus signs aren't officially supported, so use AND and NOT instead.
Run the search, then switch the results to People. Add your location and an industry or a target company name, and you'll get a shortlist of recruiters who hire for exactly the kind of role you want.
2. Use the Meet the hiring team box on job posts
This is the most direct route, and plenty of job seekers scroll straight past it. LinkedIn says that when you open a job's details page, you'll see a Meet the Hiring Team section, and you can connect with and message the whole team listed there, including the job poster.
People appear there when they add the #Hiring frame to their profile picture and link it to the job. So if a job has no one listed, the poster opted out of the frame. LinkedIn says applications still go directly to the poster or the email address on the job, and the poster's contact details aren't shown to candidates.
3. Turn on the Hiring in your network filter
LinkedIn notifies you when a first or second degree connection posts a relevant job or adds the #Hiring frame, based on your job title, industry or Open to Work preferences. You don't have to opt in. If you'd rather browse, LinkedIn says you can use the Hiring in your network filter when you search for jobs, which shows roles posted by people you already know.
4. Let recruiters find you with Open to Work
Recruiters search LinkedIn too, and the Open to Work setting is how you show up. When you add the job types and location you want, LinkedIn says it helps your profile appear when recruiters search for suitable candidates. You choose who sees it:
- All LinkedIn members: anyone, including people at your current company, and it adds the #OpenToWork photo frame.
- Recruiters only: people using LinkedIn Recruiter. LinkedIn takes steps to hide it from Recruiter users at your current company, but says it can't guarantee complete privacy.
- Visible only to you: your preferences are used to tailor your job recommendations.
To switch it on, click Me, then View profile, then the Open to button, then Finding a new job, fill in your preferences and save. You can also set it from Preferences on the Jobs tab. If you want alerts as well, my guide to LinkedIn job alerts shows how to set them up.
How to message a recruiter you're not connected to
Once you've found the right person, you've got three options:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Connect first. Send a connection request with a short note, and once they accept you can message them as a connection.
- Send an InMail. LinkedIn says InMail lets you message someone you're not connected to, but you need a Premium account. You get up to 200 characters for the subject and 2000 for the message, and you can't buy extra credits beyond your monthly allowance.
- Look for Open Profile. If the recruiter is a Premium member with Open Profile turned on, LinkedIn says you can message them for free, though it limits how many of these you can send.
Note that LinkedIn also says you can't message someone who's chosen not to receive InMail. If you're weighing up Premium for this, my guide to the LinkedIn Premium free trial covers who gets one.
What to say to a recruiter
- Lead with the role or field you want, in one line.
- Mention one result that matches what they hire for.
- Ask one easy question, such as whether they're the right person for that team.
- Keep it short enough to read on a phone.
For templates that get replies, see my guide on what a LinkedIn cold message should say.
My verdict
Finding recruiters on LinkedIn is mostly about using the tools already in front of you. Search with quotes and capital AND, OR and NOT, check Meet the hiring team on every job you want, and switch on Open to Work for recruiters only if you're still employed. Then send a short, specific note. That combination beats sending a hundred cold applications.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find recruiters on LinkedIn?
Search the main bar with a phrase like "recruiter" AND your field, filter to people, and add your location. Also check the Meet the hiring team section on job posts, where LinkedIn shows the poster and hiring team.
Can I message a recruiter on LinkedIn without Premium?
Yes, if you connect first, or if the recruiter has Open Profile turned on. LinkedIn says InMail to someone you're not connected to needs a Premium account.

A section on a job's details page listing the job poster and hiring team. LinkedIn says you can connect with and message everyone listed there.
