Is YOOX Legit? Returns, Duties and Who Owns It (2026)

Yes, YOOX is a real fashion retailer, founded in Milan by Federico Marchetti and now part of the LuxExperience group. It sells discounted designer pieces. The catch is its US return rules: the window is long, but a return fee applies when you use its label and several item types can't be sent back.

YOOX sells designer labels at prices that make people suspicious, so I get why 'is it legit' is such a common search. I've read through its US help pages and the public record on who owns it, and the short version is that the company is real, but the returns rules are worth knowing before you click buy.

Who owns YOOX and where it came from

According to Wikipedia, Yoox was founded in Milan by Federico Marchetti, and Yoox and Net-a-Porter were both founded in 2000 before merging into one group in 2015. Wikipedia says Yoox originally sold discounted overstock and past-season designer items, which explains the sale-rack feel of the site.

The ownership has moved around since. Wikipedia records that Richemont bought 95% of the available YNAP shares in 2018 and that the company was delisted that year. In 2025, it says, Mytheresa completed its acquisition of YNAP and the parent was renamed LuxExperience B.V., now the sole shareholder of Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter and Yoox. So there's a named corporate parent with a long paper trail, not an anonymous shop.

How buying from YOOX works

You order on the site or app and pay at checkout. According to YOOX's US shipping page, packages ship from a US distribution center and you receive a tracking number once your order is on its way. Delivery times vary by where you live.

That US set-up matters because it affects duties and returns, which are the two things buyers of foreign fashion sites worry about most.

YOOX duties and delivery to the US

YOOX's US shipping page says its delivery costs are flat and there are no extra costs at delivery, and it adds that duties are covered with the line 'duties are on us'. It also says standard shipping is free on orders over 350 US dollars, and that if sales tax applies, the amount is displayed at checkout.

Check the total on the payment page before you confirm. That's the figure that counts, and it's where any tax shows up.

YOOX returns and refunds

This is where YOOX needs the closest read. Its US return policy says you can return any item purchased on YOOX within 60 days of the delivery date. That's a generous window compared with many fashion sites. But there are conditions:

  • Returns made with the pre-paid courier label incur a flat fee of 9.95 US dollars, plus sales tax on that fee where applicable, deducted from your refund.
  • Items must be in original condition with tags.
  • Final Sale, Vintage and Clearance items, Underwear, Swimwear, Sunglasses and Fragrance can't be returned.
  • Exchanges aren't offered.
  • Once the return reaches the warehouse, the policy asks you to allow 3 to 7 business days, depending on peak times, for processing.

The sneaky one is the Final Sale and Clearance rule. A lot of the bargains on a discount retailer sit in exactly those categories, so check the item page for a return note before you pay.

The catch with buying from YOOX

  • The return fee reduces your refund, so a small purchase that doesn't fit can cost proportionally more to send back.
  • No exchanges means you reorder if you need another size, and stock may be gone.
  • Sale and clearance items can be final, so the bargain you want may be the one you can't return.
  • I haven't found YOOX describing its authenticity checks in detail, so I won't claim anything about how items are verified. Read the product page and brand details yourself.

If you like to check what other shoppers say before ordering from a store you haven't used, my guide to review sites for shoppers explains what ratings can and can't tell you. Also note that fake reviews exist, so spotting a fake review is a useful skill.

Fake YOOX sites and social ads

Designer discounts are exactly what scam shops copy. A lookalike site might use YOOX's name, logo and a too-good-to-be-true price, then take your card details and send nothing.

  • Type the address yourself or use the official app, rather than tapping a social media ad.
  • Pay inside the official checkout, never by bank transfer, gift card or a payment link a 'seller' sends you in a message.
  • Be wary of emails that claim an order problem and ask you to log in through a link. Go to the site directly and check your account.
  • Paying by card gives you a route to dispute a charge if goods never arrive.

My verdict on YOOX

Short answer: yes, it's legit. It's a long-established fashion retailer with a named founder, a documented ownership history and written US return and shipping rules. The things to keep in mind are the return fee, the items you can't return and the lack of exchanges. Read those before you order, stick to the official site, and you'll know what you're signing up for.
