Is Webflow Free? What the Free Starter Plan Lets You Build

Yes, Webflow is free to start. Its Starter plan costs nothing and Webflow says you can use it for as long as you like, but it's limited to a webflow.io address, 2 static pages, 1 GB of bandwidth and 50 form submissions. To publish on your own domain, you need a paid Site plan.

So Webflow Free is a place to learn, design and prototype, not to run a business website. That's not a criticism; it's how Webflow positions it, describing Starter as for exploring and experimenting. Here's what you can and can't do before paying.

What the free Starter plan includes

  • A webflow.io domain for your site.
  • 2 static pages.
  • Limited Webflow CMS.
  • 1 GB of bandwidth.
  • 50 form submissions.
  • Webflow AI and the MCP server.
  • A free Starter Workspace.

Static pages are the pages that aren't generated from the CMS, like a homepage or contact page. Two of them is enough to test a design, but not for a typical small business site with a home, about, services and contact page.

What needs a paid plan

The big one is your own domain. Webflow's pricing page says a paid Site plan is required to publish to a custom domain. Webflow also says some features need a paid Workspace plan to use on a Starter site.

Domainwebflow.io onlyYour own domain
Static pages2300
Bandwidth1 GB10 GB
Form submissions50Unlimited

Password protectionNot listedIncluded

If you need a blog or any content that uses the CMS, you'll be looking beyond Basic, because Webflow describes Basic as for simple sites that don't need a CMS.

How many free sites you can have

Here's a detail people miss. Webflow counts free Starter sites per Workspace, and the free Workspace allows 2. Its paid Core Workspace allows 10 and Growth is unlimited. As soon as you upgrade a Starter site to a paid Site plan, it stops counting against your free limit, so you can start another free one.

Two kinds of plan: Site and Workspace

Webflow's pricing confuses people because it sells two things. A Site plan hosts one website and decides its limits, such as pages, bandwidth and whether you can use your own domain. A Workspace plan is for you or your team, and decides things like how many free Starter sites you can keep and which tools you can use on them. A freelancer building client sites usually needs to think about both.

How to start on Webflow for free

  1. Choose Start for free on Webflow's site and create an account.
  2. Start your first site on the free Starter plan.
  3. Design your 2 static pages and test the CMS on its limited free allowance.
  4. Publish to your webflow.io address to share it.
  5. Buy a Site plan only when you're ready to connect your own domain.

If you're comparing builders, Framer versus Webflow looks at which gets you live faster, whether Framer is free covers its free plan, and Webflow alternatives rounds up other visual builders.

Where the CMS starts

This is the plan detail that matters most if you want a blog. Webflow lists Basic, its entry Site plan, as for simple sites that don't need a CMS. Webflow CMS appears on the Premium Site plan, which Webflow describes as for content-rich sites, alongside code components, site search and form file upload. So if you're moving off Starter with a blog in mind, compare against Premium rather than Basic.

PremiumFor content-rich sites with CMS and traffic needsIncluded

Workspace plans and team options

Webflow's pricing page says any Workspace tier can support an unlimited number of paid Site plans; the main difference between Workspace tiers is how many free Starter sites each supports. Above the Site plans, Webflow lists a Team plan with an annual contract required, adding Webflow Localize, publishing workflows, single-page publishing, a site activity log and priority support. A one-person business won't need that, but it shows how Webflow scales from a free Starter site to a full team setup.

My advice

Use Webflow's free Starter plan to learn the tool and finish your design before you pay a penny. It's free for as long as you like, so there's no clock running. Pay for a Site plan only on the day you're ready to connect your domain, and pick the plan by whether you need the CMS, because that's the line between Basic and the plans above it.
