How to Turn Off Comments on TikTok: Per Post, Who Can Comment and Filters

To turn off comments on TikTok, open the post, tap the More options button, tap Privacy settings and switch off Allow comments; for a new video, you'll find the same switch under More options on the Post screen. As of October 2026 TikTok doesn't list one switch that turns comments off on every post at once, but you can limit who can comment across your whole account.

The catch: comments switch off one post at a time

TikTok gives you two controls that sound alike and do different jobs. Allow comments is a per post switch. Allow comments from, in your account privacy settings, decides who can comment on all your posts, but it doesn't have an off option. Your choices there are Everyone, Followers or Friends.

Filters are a third thing again. When a comment filter is on, matching comments are hidden unless you approve them. People can still write them; you just decide which ones show. If you want a post to go quiet, use Allow comments. If you want fewer nasty comments while keeping the conversation going, use filters.

Switch off comments on a single TikTok post

Before you post

  1. In the TikTok app, create your post.
  2. On the Post screen, tap the More options button.
  3. Turn the Allow comments setting off.

On a post that's already up

  1. Go to the post you'd like to manage. You can find your posts on your profile.
  2. Tap the More options button.
  3. Tap Privacy settings at the bottom. You may need to swipe to find it.
  4. Turn the Allow comments setting off.

The switch works both ways, so you can turn comments back on with the same steps whenever you're ready.

Choose who can comment on all your posts

OptionWho can commentAvailable on
EveryoneAnyone, as long as comments are turned onPublic accounts only
FollowersOnly people following you on TikTokPrivate accounts only
FriendsOnly followers you follow backListed for both
  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy, then tap Comments.
  4. Tap Allow comments from and choose who you'd like to allow.

Friends is the tightest option short of switching comments off, because only people you've followed back can reply. If you're under 18, TikTok has separate privacy and safety settings for comments, so your options may look different.

Comment filters hide comments without turning them off

FilterWhat it hides until you approve it
Filter all commentsEvery comment on your videos (TikTok says this isn't available to everyone yet)
Filter unwanted commentsRecent comments that may be offensive or spam
Filter specific keywordsComments containing keywords you've added
Creator Care ModeComments that are inappropriate, offensive or contain profanity, plus comments previously reported, deleted or disliked

All four live under Profile, then the Menu button, then Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Comments. Filter all comments and Filter unwanted comments sit below Comment filters. For keywords, tap Filter keywords in comments, turn on Filter specific keywords, then tap Add keywords. Creator Care Mode has its own switch on the same Comments screen.

If you can see Filter all comments, it's the closest thing to an account-wide off switch, because nothing appears until you approve it. For blocking particular words more widely, my guide on how to block words on TikTok goes further.

Review what your filters caught

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy.
  4. Tap Comments.
  5. Tap Review filtered comments.
  6. Tap Approve or Delete below the comment you'd like to review.

I'd check this now and then. Filters can catch comments you'd have been glad to see, and nobody sees them until you approve them.

Clear out comments that are already there

If the trouble is comments already sitting on a post, you can remove them. To delete one, tap the Comments button on the side of the post, press and hold the comment and tap Delete.

  1. To delete in bulk, tap the Comments button on the side of the post.
  2. Tap the Filters button at the top, or press and hold a comment and tap Manage multiple comments.
  3. Select the comments you'd like to delete. You can select up to 100.
  4. Tap Delete and confirm.

You can report up to 100 comments the same way: select them, tap More, tap Report comments, then Report to confirm. If one person keeps causing trouble, blocking them means they can't view your videos or engage with you through messages, comments, follows or likes.

Your own comments on other people's posts are a separate list under Activity center, then Comment history, and video reply comments don't show there. Here's how to see your comment history on TikTok in full.

When comments won't post or load

If you can't post comments, TikTok suggests making sure you're logged in, switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clearing the app video cache in Settings and privacy, restarting the app and your device, and updating to the latest version. If you've been commenting on videos too quickly you may get an alert, and TikTok says to wait 24 hours and try again. On TikTok in a desktop browser, if comments won't load, refresh the page and restart the browser; on mobile web, also switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and restart your device.

My verdict on turning TikTok comments off

If one post has attracted the wrong crowd, switch Allow comments off on that post and move on. If it keeps happening, I'd set Allow comments from to Friends or turn on Creator Care Mode, so the people who matter can still talk to you. Comments are how viewers talk back, so I'd filter before I'd silence. LIVE chat is a separate control again; here's how to hide TikTok LIVE chat.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn off comments on all my TikTok posts at once?

TikTok's help centre doesn't list one switch for that as of October 2026. You turn off Allow comments post by post, and use Allow comments from to limit who can comment on everything.

Does a comment filter turn comments off?

No. Filtered comments are hidden unless you approve them, and you can review them under Review filtered comments.

How many TikTok comments can I delete at once?

Up to 100, using the Filters button or Manage multiple comments in the post's comments section.

Why can't I comment on TikTok right now?

If you've been commenting too quickly you may get an alert. TikTok says to wait 24 hours and try again.
