To send Stars on Facebook, tap the Stars icon next to Write a comment on a creator's video, reel or post, choose how many Stars to send or type a custom amount, and tap Send. You'll need Stars in your balance first, and Facebook says buying them isn't available on a computer, only on a mobile device.
You'll only see the Stars icon on creators who've turned Stars on, so if it's missing, that's usually why. Here's the whole process from Facebook Help and Meta's business help, read in October 2026.
How to send Stars on Facebook
- Open the creator's video, reel or post.
- Tap the Stars icon next to Write a comment.
- Check your Stars balance at the top right.
- Choose an amount, or type a custom number.
- Add a message if you like, then tap Send.
Facebook says your Stars and comment are shown to the creator and to anyone viewing that content, so your message is public.
Send Stars from your Feed
- Tap the creator's content in your Feed to open it.
- Tap the Stars icon next to Write a comment.
- Pick an amount and type your custom message.
- Tap Send.
How to buy Stars
If your balance is empty, buy Stars first. Facebook says this works on a mobile device, not a computer:
- From a creator's content, tap Stars next to Write a comment.
- View your Stars balance in the top right.
- Tap Stars next to your balance to buy more.
- Select a pack, for example 250 Stars.
- Follow the prompts, then tap Done.
There's also the Stars Store, a mobile-friendly store where fans can buy Stars outside of a creator's videos. Facebook says you check out through Facebook Pay, and Meta describes buying in the Stars Store as having lower fees than buying inside a video.
Where Stars work
Meta's business help says viewers can use Stars to appreciate a creator's gaming, live, on-demand, reel, photo or text content. Stars are available to creators on professional mode profiles and Pages, and creators can switch Stars on or off for eligible content from Options on a reel or post.
Why you can't see the Stars button
- The creator hasn't turned Stars on for that content, or isn't eligible.
- You're on a computer and trying to buy Stars, which Facebook says needs a mobile device.
- Your location: Meta lists Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia and Syria as places that don't support sending Stars.
- An old app: update Facebook if the icon doesn't appear on content where others can see it.
Countries where Stars are available
Meta's list of countries where Stars are available is long and includes the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and many more. If you're unsure, the presence of the Stars icon on a creator's content is the quickest test.
What sending Stars does for a creator
Stars are Facebook's way for followers to show appreciation, and Meta says creators can turn the Stars they receive into earnings once they meet its eligibility rules and complete payment set-up. They also count towards Creator Perks, such as virtual trophies for milestones. If you're wondering what your Stars are worth to them, my guide on how much 1,000 Stars are worth on Facebook explains it. If you're curious about the creator side, my guide on setting up a Facebook Page is a good place to start.
Stars vs other ways to support someone
| Option | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Stars | A visible, one-off show of support on a video, reel or post |
| Comment and share | Free, and it helps their content reach more people |
| Following | Free, and keeps their posts in your Feed |
Sharing a creator's reel is free and often helps them as much as a small gift, so don't feel you have to buy Stars to be a good fan.
Keep it safe
Only buy Stars inside the Facebook app or the official Stars Store. Anyone offering cheap Stars through a link in the comments isn't Facebook, and you risk your account and your card details.
If you've never seen them there, our guide to Instagram gifts explains how Reels gifts work.

My advice
Send Stars during a live video if you can: the creator sees your name and message in the moment, which means far more to them than the same Stars on an old post. And if the button's missing, check you're on your phone with an up-to-date app before assuming anything else.
Instagram has its own version, and our guide to sending gifts on Instagram Reels shows how it works.
