To see who follows you on Facebook, open your profile, tap Friends and choose Followers. For a business Page, switch into the Page and look for the followers list in its settings. Your profile and your Page have separate follower lists, and your privacy settings decide who can follow your profile in the first place.
Followers on Facebook work differently from friends, and that's where most of the confusion starts. A friend is a two-way connection. A follower is someone who sees your public posts in their Feed without you having to accept them. If you've got a personal profile and a business Page, you've got two separate follower lists, and they live in different places.
This guide follows Facebook's Help Centre articles See who follows your Facebook Page, Who can follow you on Facebook and Change who can see the people and Pages you follow. Menus vary by app version, so the wording on your screen may be a little different.
Profile followers vs Page followers on Facebook
| Your personal profile | A Facebook Page you manage | |
|---|---|---|
| Who follows | Friends (usually) plus anyone your follow setting allows | Anyone who chooses to follow the Page |
| Where the list is | On your profile, in the friends area | In the Page's settings |
| What followers see | Your public posts | The Page's posts |
| Who controls it | You, through your privacy settings | People with access to the Page |
Friends normally follow you automatically, so your follower list on a profile can include friends as well as people who aren't your friends.
See who follows your Facebook profile
In the Facebook app
- Tap your profile picture to open your profile.
- Tap Friends, or the friends area under your profile details.
- Look for a Followers tab or option. Menus vary by app version, and on some accounts it sits under See all friends or the more options.
- Scroll through the list to see who follows you.
On a computer
- Click your name or profile picture to open your profile.
- Click Friends under your cover photo.
- Click Followers. If it isn't shown, click More next to the tabs and look there.
If there's no Followers option at all, your follow setting may be limited to friends, or no one outside your friends follows you yet.
See who follows your Facebook Page
Facebook's help article for Pages says you can see a list of the people who follow your Page in the Page's settings.
- Switch into your Page.
- Open the menu, then Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Look for the followers section in the Page's settings. Menus vary by app version, so you may find it under the Page's privacy or audience options.
- Open the list to see who follows the Page.
For numbers and trends rather than names, Facebook has a separate article called See insights about your Page's followers. That's where you'll find growth over time. What you won't find is a list of people who simply looked at the Page, which I've explained in my guide on whether a Facebook Page can see who visits it.
Choosing who can follow you on Facebook
There's a help article called Who can follow you on Facebook, and the setting sits in your privacy controls. On a computer, click your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, then Settings, and in the Audience and visibility area open Followers and public content. Pick whether anyone can follow you or only friends. Choosing friends only means people who aren't your friends can't follow you.
The same screen lets you choose who can see the people and Pages you follow. Facebook points out that when you follow someone, your name appears on their list of followers, and they may make that list visible on their profile.
If you'd like to tighten things further, my guide to locking your Facebook profile from strangers goes through the wider privacy settings.
Removing or stopping a Facebook follower
Here's the honest picture. I couldn't find a Facebook Help Centre article that describes a remove follower button for personal profiles. Facebook does document that option for Instagram, which is where a lot of the advice online comes from. Some Facebook app versions show options next to names in your followers list, so check there first, but don't rely on it.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The routes Facebook does document are:
- Change Who can follow me to friends only, so people who aren't friends can't follow your public posts.
- Unfriend someone if they're a friend, which Facebook says they aren't notified about.
- Add them to your Restricted list, so they only see your public posts and posts you tag them in.
- Block them, which stops them seeing your profile or contacting you. Here's how to block someone on Facebook.
If someone's harassing you, report it to Facebook and, if you're in danger, contact the police.
Facebook followers and professional mode
If you've turned on professional mode on your profile, followers matter more, because they're your audience for public content. Facebook's live help page, for example, says a professional-mode profile needs at least 100 followers to go live. Keep your follow setting public if you want to grow that audience.
If your Facebook followers list won't show
- Update the app, as the followers option moves between versions.
- Check your follow setting isn't set to friends only, if you expected people outside your friends.
- Remember friends can unfollow you without unfriending you, so the list can be shorter than your friends list.
- For a Page, make sure you've switched into the Page and have access to its settings.
- Try a computer if the app doesn't show the list.
Frequently asked questions
Can people see who follows me on Facebook?
It depends on your privacy settings. Facebook lets you choose who can see your friends and the people you follow, and followers can make their own lists visible.
Are Facebook followers the same as friends?
No. Friends are a two-way connection. Followers see your public posts without you accepting them, and friends usually follow you too.
Can I remove a follower on Facebook?
I couldn't find a Facebook help article that documents a remove follower button for profiles. You can limit following to friends, restrict someone or block them.
Where do I see my Facebook Page followers?
Facebook's help page says the list is in your Page's settings. Switch into the Page first.
Why are there followers I don't know?
If your follow setting is public, anyone can follow your public posts. Change it to friends to stop new followers you don't know.
