To print from Canva on your own printer, open the design, select Share, then See all, then Use my printer, and press Print. To get it professionally printed and delivered, select Print with Canva instead, pick your product and paper, proof the design and place the order.
Canva makes printing look like one button, but there are two very different routes hiding behind it. One sends the file to the printer on your desk. The other turns your design into a professional print job that turns up at your door. Pick the wrong one and you'll either waste a pile of ink or wait a week for something you needed this afternoon.
Your two ways to print a Canva design
| Route | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Use my printer | Quick jobs, drafts, one-off sheets | Your computer's print window opens and prints at home or in the office |
| Print with Canva | Business cards, flyers, invitations, T-shirts | A professionally printed product delivered to you, or picked up in some regions |
| Download as PDF Print | Taking files to a local print shop | Canva's high-quality, print-ready PDF that any printer can work from |
How to print a Canva design on your own printer
- Open the design you want to print.
- Select Share in the top right, then See all.
- Choose Use my printer.
- Your computer's print window opens. Pick your printer, the pages and the number of copies.
- Select Print.
There's a faster way too. Press Cmd + P on a Mac or Ctrl + P on Windows. The first time you do it, Canva asks whether you want Use my printer or Print with Canva, and you can set either one as the default so it stops asking.
Printing from your phone works as well, but Canva's help pages point out that the printer has to be set up on your mobile device first, for example on the same network.
How to order professional prints with Canva Print
- Open your finished design and select Print with Canva from the top menu. If you can't see it, go to Share and find it there.
- Choose the product, paper and quantity. Canva may offer to resize your design to a printable format.
- Select Continue and check the proof. Canva flags problems page by page, and you can switch on its automatic fixes.
- Select Checkout, or add it to your cart if you're ordering several things.
- Enter your delivery details, review the order summary and select Place order.
If you'd rather browse first, the Print Shop on your Canva homepage lets you look at products, paper types and sizes before you design anything.
The catch most people miss: nobody checks your design
This is the bit that catches people out. Canva says plainly that it may be unable to check your design for quality control before it goes to print. There's an automated proof that flags common issues, but if a typo, a blurry logo or a phone number running off the edge slips through, it gets printed exactly as you sent it.
So treat the proof screen as your last line of defence, and run through these checks before you order anything:
- Turn on margins. Go to File, then Settings, then Show margins, and keep text and logos inside the broken line.
- Use bleed for edge-to-edge colour. Canva adds 0.125 inches (3.175 mm) of bleed on every side of trimmed products. Stretch backgrounds into it, never text.
- Check small text. Canva generally recommends not going below font size 7.
- Zoom to 200%. If a photo looks fuzzy there, it'll look fuzzy on paper. Canva suggests images at 300 dpi.
- Read every name, date and email address. Twice.
Why your colours look different on paper
Screens build colour from light (RGB) and printers build it from ink (CMYK). Canva warns that very bright screen colours, such as electric blue or hot pink, can come out softer or more muted once printed. If your brand colours are punchy, pick slightly lighter versions for print, or order a single copy first. Canva notes that nearly every product lets you order just one, which makes a test print an easy habit.
How long Canva Print takes to arrive
Production takes 1 to 2 business days for most products, and T-shirts take 4. Then delivery kicks in. In the United States, standard delivery runs five to eight business days and express runs two to three. The checkout screen always shows the most accurate date for your own order, so check it before you promise a client anything.

Printing at home vs at a print shop
Home printers are fine for drafts, worksheets and the odd flyer. But Canva's own help pages say not all home printers support full bleed or crop marks, so a design with colour right to the edge will usually end up with a white border. For anything a customer will hold in their hand, such as business cards, menus or event flyers, I'd use Canva Print or download a PDF Print and take it to a local printer. If you're comparing PDF tools for the job, my rundown of PDF editors worth using covers the options.
My verdict
Pick Use my printer for anything quick and internal, and Print with Canva or a PDF Print for anything with your name on it. Whichever you choose, proof it like nobody else will, because nobody else will. And if the design is going on a card people keep, it's worth reading my guide to NFC business cards before you print a thousand paper ones.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print from Canva on my home printer?
Open the design, select Share, then See all, then Use my printer, and choose Print. You can also press Cmd + P on a Mac or Ctrl + P on Windows.
Does Canva check my design before printing?
Not reliably. Canva says it may be unable to check designs for quality control, so proof margins, text size and images yourself.
What bleed does Canva use for print?
Canva adds 0.125 inches (3.175 mm) of bleed on all sides for products that get trimmed.
How long does Canva Print take?
Most products take 1 to 2 business days to produce, then delivery time depends on the shipping option. Standard delivery in the US is five to eight business days.
Why do my printed colours look duller than on screen?
Screens use RGB light and printers use CMYK ink, so very bright screen colours can print softer. Use print-safe colours or order one test copy.
