How to Log Out of Pinterest on Any Device

To log out of Pinterest on a computer, click the chevron-down icon at the top right and choose Log out. In the app, tap your profile photo at the bottom right, then your profile photo at the top left, scroll down and tap Log out. On a business account, tap the ellipsis icon at the top right of your profile instead.

The button moves around depending on the device and the type of account, which is why it's easy to miss. Pinterest recommends logging out whenever you're done on a public or shared device, so it's worth knowing where to find it.

Here's where to find it, plus what to sort out before you log out so getting back in is painless.

Logging out on a computer

  1. Click the chevron-down icon at the top right of your screen.
  2. Click Log out.

Logging out on a phone or tablet

  1. Tap your profile photo at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Tap your profile photo again at the top left.
  3. Scroll down and tap Log out.

Logging out of a business account

Business accounts put settings in a different place. Tap your profile photo at the bottom right, then the ellipsis icon at the top right, then scroll down and tap Log out.

Before you log out: make sure you can get back in

This is the step people skip and then regret. Check how you'll log in again:

  • Email and password: make sure you know both, especially if you normally stay logged in.
  • Google: you can connect it under Settings, Security, Login options on a computer, or Security in the app.
  • Apple: available on iOS only, and your Apple ID must match an existing Pinterest account.
  • Facebook: no longer available. If that's how you used to log in, set up email, Google or Apple first.

Pinterest says a connected Google or Apple account also helps you recover your account if you forget your email or password, so it's worth turning on before you log out of a device you use often.

Logging back in with a QR code

On the web, there's a handy shortcut. Select Use QR code on the login page, make sure you're logged in on your phone and that your phone's on the same WiFi as your computer, then scan the code with your phone's camera and tap Confirm. Pinterest says QR login is currently only available on the web.

When you'd need to log out

  • You've used Pinterest on a shared, work or public computer.
  • You're handing your phone or tablet to someone else for a while.
  • You want to create a new business account. Pinterest says you'll need to log out of your existing account to see the sign-up option.
  • You're switching between accounts and haven't connected them yet.

Switching accounts without logging out

If you've got more than one Pinterest account, logging out each time gets old fast. Pinterest lets you add another account and switch between connected accounts instead. On a computer, it's under the chevron-down icon at the top right, then Add Pinterest account. In the app, tap your profile photo, then your profile photo at the top left, then Add account. Pinterest notes it's no longer possible to link a personal account to a business account, so this works best for personal accounts.

If you can't log back in

Check you're using the same email you signed up with, and try Continue with Google if that's connected. If you used to rely on Facebook login, you'll need another method now. If Pinterest itself seems to be misbehaving, start with what to check when Pinterest isn't working.

And if you're logging out because you're done with Pinterest for good, that's a different job. Here's how to delete your Pinterest account if you want to close it.

What happens to your account when you log out

Nothing changes on your account. Your Pins, boards, followers and messages stay exactly where they are, and they'll be waiting when you log back in on any device. Logging out only ends your session on that particular device. That's why it's the safe choice on a shared computer: it removes your access from that screen without touching anything else.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

If you've used Pinterest on several devices, remember to log out on each shared one separately. Logging out on your laptop doesn't log you out on a library computer you used last week.

Staying safe on shared devices

Logging out is the main thing, but a couple of habits help too. Don't let a shared browser save your Pinterest password, and close the browser when you've finished. On a family tablet, it's often simpler to give each person their own Pinterest account and connect them, so nobody's feed or messages end up mixed together.

My advice

If you look after a Pinterest account for a business or client, logging out matters even more. Shared office computers and borrowed laptops are where accounts most often get left open, and anyone sitting down at that screen can post as the business.

Connect Google or Apple before you log out, because Facebook login has gone and forgotten passwords are the usual reason people get stuck. Always log out on shared devices. And if you're logging out just to switch accounts, connect them instead and save yourself the hassle.
