On the Pinterest website, go to Settings, then Account management, then Personal information, and choose a new language from the Language dropdown. In the Pinterest app there's no language setting to change: the app uses the language your phone or tablet is set to, so you change it in your device's settings.
That second part is why so many people go looking for a menu that isn't there. If your Pinterest app is in the wrong language, Pinterest isn't the place to fix it.
Here's how to change the language on each device, how to change your country, and a couple of side effects worth knowing, all from Pinterest's help centre.
Changing the language on the website
- Log in to pinterest.com.
- Click the more-options icon at the bottom left of your screen.
- Click Settings, then Account management.
- Click Personal information on the left.
- Under Language, use the dropdown to pick your language.
- Click Save.
Changing the language in the app
Pinterest's help centre says the app uses the language selected in your device's settings, and points Android users to Android's help centre and iPhone and iPad users to Apple's support pages. In practice:
- On Android, change your phone's language in its system settings.
- On an iPhone or iPad, change the device language in Settings.
- Reopen the Pinterest app afterwards so it picks up the change.
If you only want Pinterest in a different language and the rest of your phone left alone, the website is the easier place to do that, because the web setting is separate from your device.
Web vs app at a glance
| Pinterest website | Pinterest app | |
|---|---|---|
| Where language is set | Settings, Account management, Personal information | Your device's own settings |
| Can you pick a language just for Pinterest? | Yes | Not within the Pinterest app |
| Where country is set | Personal information, Country/Region | Account management, Personal information, Country/region |
Changing your country or region
Country is a separate setting from language, and you can change it on the web and in the app.
On the website, go to Settings, Account management, Personal information, then use the Country/Region dropdown and click Save.
In the app:
- Tap your profile picture at the bottom right.
- Tap your profile photo at the top left.
- Tap Account management, then Personal information.
- Tap Country/region and select your country.
If you've got a business account, you reach these settings by tapping your profile photo at the bottom right and then the ellipsis icon at the top right.
Why your language setting matters
Language affects more than the menus. Pinterest asks for your language and country when you sign up, and it uses them alongside your topics to decide what to show you. A couple of features also depend on it. Voice search, for example, is currently only available in the US, and Pinterest says your language settings must be set to English to use it.
So if voice search has vanished, or your feed suddenly looks like it's meant for another country, check both your language and your country settings.
If the language doesn't change
- On the web, make sure you clicked Save after choosing the language.
- Refresh the page or log out and back in.
- In the app, remember Pinterest follows your device language, so check that first.
- Close and reopen the app after changing your device language.
- Update the Pinterest app if it still shows the old language.
Language when you first sign up
If you're setting up a new account, you can get this right from the start. On the website, Pinterest asks you to select your language and country or region during sign-up. In the app, sign-up asks for your country or region, and the language comes from your device. So if you're creating an account on a borrowed phone that's set to another language, expect the app to appear in that language until you're back on your own device.

Why your app might suddenly switch language
If your Pinterest app changed language overnight, the usual reason is that something changed on the device, not on Pinterest. A software update, a new phone set up from a backup, or someone else changing the phone's language will all carry through to the app, because the app follows the device. Check the device first and you'll usually find it.
Using Pinterest in more than one language
If you run a business that sells in more than one country, it's tempting to keep switching languages to see what people search. You don't need to. The Pinterest Trends tool lets you choose a region directly, which is a cleaner way to check another market. Keep your own account in the language you're most comfortable working in.
While you're in your settings, you might also want to change Pinterest to dark mode. And if something else looks off, here's what to check when Pinterest isn't working.
My advice
One last tip for business owners: the language setting changes Pinterest's menus, not your Pins. Write your Pin titles and descriptions in the language your customers search in, whatever language your own account uses. If you serve customers in two languages, that's worth doing on separate boards so each one stays clear and searchable.
Change it on the website if you want Pinterest in one language and your phone in another. If the app's in the wrong language, look at your phone's settings, not Pinterest's. And set your country correctly too, because it shapes what you see as much as the language does.
