To hide posts on Reddit, check the three-dot menu on a post for a Hide option, or mute the whole community, which Reddit's help describes in full. The detail people trip over: hiding only changes your own view, and hiding content on your profile doesn't delete it.
Everyone's Reddit feed has that one post you don't want to see again. It might be a spoiler, a thread that makes you cross, or something you opened on your phone while someone was looking over your shoulder. Hiding feels like the obvious answer, but Reddit's help pages are oddly quiet about it.
I want to be straight with you about that. Reddit's help centre doesn't walk through a Hide button step by step in anything I could read, so I won't invent a set of menu clicks. What I can do is show you what Reddit does document: the hidden list on your account, muting a community, and the profile controls people mix up with hiding.
What hiding a post on Reddit does
Reddit's data page lists posts and comments you've hidden as one of the activity categories on your account, and links it to a hidden page under your own account on reddit.com. So hidden posts are kept in a list tied to you, which tells you two things: hiding is personal, and there's a place to look when you want something back.
Where you find the Hide choice depends on your app version. Look in the overflow menu (the three dots) on a post and check what's there. Menus vary, and Reddit changes its feed often, so trust what your own screen offers over any screenshot you find online.
Muting a community on Reddit to stop its posts appearing
If you keep hiding posts from the same community, muting is the cleaner fix, and this one is documented in full. Reddit's help says muting hides a community from your notifications, your home feed (including recommendations) and your Popular feed. It's for logged-in users.
Here's where Reddit says to find it:
- On reddit.com: open a community's overflow menu and choose Mute r/Community, or go to Preferences and open Muted communities.
- On iPhone and Android: open the community's overflow menu and choose Mute, tap the overflow menu on a Popular post, or go to Settings, then your account settings, then Safety, then Manage muted communities.
You can mute up to 1,000 communities. One catch from the same help article: muting doesn't yet cover other mixed feeds or recommendations, so you may still see the odd post from a muted place.
Using Show fewer posts like this on Reddit
For recommended posts, Reddit gives you a lighter option. On reddit.com, choose Show fewer posts like this from the overflow menu of a recommended post. On the apps, Reddit says to choose that option and then pick the mute choice. It tells Reddit you're not interested without banning a whole community from your feed.
| What you want | Option Reddit's help describes |
|---|---|
| Stop one community appearing | Mute the community |
| Fewer recommended posts like one you saw | Show fewer posts like this |
| See what you hid before | The hidden page on your account |
| Change what visitors see on your page | Profile curation |
Hiding posts on your Reddit profile is a different thing
People often mix these up. Profile curation controls what other people see on your profile, not what appears in your feed. Reddit's help says you can choose which communities' content appears there, and show or hide NSFW posts and comments. Hidden content isn't deleted: it stays in its original community and in search results.
There's one more detail worth knowing if you're keeping a low profile. Reddit says moderators of a community you interact with can see your full profile history for 28 days after that interaction, whatever your curation settings say. So curation is about tidiness, not secrecy.

Hiding Reddit posts if you run a brand or community
If you manage Reddit for a business, hiding is a personal comfort tool, not a reputation tool. Posts you hide are hidden only in your view. Anyone else can still see them, and so can search. If something about your own company is going wrong, hiding it from your feed won't help you. Reading it, answering it politely and reporting anything that breaks the rules will.
If you want to treat Reddit as a serious part of your marketing, my guide to using Reddit for lead generation shows how to be helpful without being pushy, and how brands built a Reddit presence that works is a useful companion.
If you can't find the Hide option on Reddit
- Open the three-dot menu on the post itself, not on a comment, and read every option.
- Update the Reddit app, then look again. Features move between versions.
- Try reddit.com in a browser. The post menu is often clearer on a bigger screen.
- If you only want a whole community gone, mute it instead. That path is documented.
- If you want to remove something you posted, that's editing or deleting, not hiding.
Hiding is a quiet little feature, and Reddit's help centre doesn't give it much space. If a step in this guide doesn't match your screen, the app has probably changed since, and the settings pages above are the safest place to start.
Frequently asked questions
How do I hide a post on Reddit?
Reddit's help doesn't give Hide steps in anything I could read. Check the three-dot menu on the post for a Hide option in your app version, or mute the community, which Reddit does document.
Where do I find posts I've hidden on Reddit?
Reddit's data page lists posts you've hidden as an activity category and links to a hidden page on your own account at reddit.com. Menus vary, so look in your profile.
What's the difference between hiding and muting on Reddit?
Hiding is about a single post for you. Muting removes a whole community from your notifications, home feed and Popular feed. Reddit says you can mute up to 1,000 communities.
Does hiding a post on Reddit delete it?
No. Hiding only changes what you see, and anyone else can still read the post. If it's your own post and you want it gone, that's deleting.
Does hiding posts on my profile stop people finding them?
Not completely. Reddit says hidden profile content isn't deleted and stays in its community and in search results. Moderators can also see your history for 28 days after you interact.
