To curve text in Canva, select the text box, click Effects on the toolbar, choose Curve from the Shape category and adjust the sliders. The detail people trip over: apply Curve before adding a gradient, and remember Canva says links on text with effects may not work.
Curved text is the quickest way to make a logo, badge or round sticker look designed rather than assembled. Think of a business name arching over a circle, or a slogan bending round the edge of a stamp. In Canva it's one effect, not a workaround, and once you know where it hides it takes seconds.
Below I'll show you where the Curve effect lives, how to adjust it, what to do when it plays badly with other styling, and a few layouts that work well for small business graphics. Everything about the effect itself comes from Canva's own help page on text effects.
Finding the Curve text effect in Canva
Text effects come in categories. According to Canva's help page, the Style category holds Drop, Glow, Echo, Outline, Background and Splice, the Color category holds Hollow, Glitch and Neon, and the Shape category holds one effect: Curve. So if you're scrolling for it and can't spot it, look under Shape.
Curving text in Canva, step by step
Canva's help describes the same basic routine for every text effect, and Curve follows it:
- Open your design and click the text box you want to bend.
- Click Effects on the toolbar above the editor.
- Choose Curve from the side panel.
- Drag the sliders or type a value to adjust the effect.
- Click away from the text to see the result.
The help page says you can change intensity, colour, direction and transparency, so if the bend feels too tight or goes the wrong way round, the settings are the place to look. Canva's page doesn't spell out which setting does what for Curve, so move each slider a little and watch the text. Menus can shift between app versions, and the page gives separate instructions for desktop and mobile.
Getting the curve right on a Canva logo or badge
A few habits make curved text look intentional rather than accidental:
- Keep the wording short. A business name or a three-word tagline bends nicely, a whole sentence doesn't.
- Pair the curve with a circle or ring shape behind it so the bend has something to follow.
- Set the text size and spacing first, then curve it, so you aren't fighting two changes at once.
- Use one curved line and keep the rest of the design straight. Two or three bent lines compete.
For a round stamp, curve one line across the top and leave a second straight line in the middle. It reads clearly even at small sizes, which matters for social graphics that get squeezed into a phone feed. If you're planning those graphics, my guide on writing and scheduling an Instagram post for your business covers what to put around the design.
Curve text and gradients in Canva
This is the bit people trip over. Canva's help says Shadow, Glow, Curve and Echo work well with gradients, and for best results you should apply the effect first and add the gradient afterwards. Do it the other way round and the result may not look right.
The help page also warns that some other effects may show only the first gradient colour, or override the gradient entirely. If something looks wrong, the order of your edits is the first thing to check.

Curved text in Canva and links that stop working
There's one more catch. Canva's text effects page says hyperlinks on text with effects may not work. If you're making a clickable button or a linked headline, that matters. The simple way round is to keep the curved text decorative and put the link on a separate straight element, such as a plain button shape or a short line of text underneath.
Removing or changing the Curve effect in Canva
Changed your mind? Select the curved text and open Effects again. Canva's help says to select Remove effect at the bottom of the panel to take an effect off. To tweak rather than remove, adjust the same sliders you used before. Undo works too if you've only just applied it.
| What you want | What to do in Canva |
|---|---|
| Bend a line of text | Effects, then Curve under Shape |
| Change how strong it looks | Adjust the sliders in the Effects panel |
| Use a gradient on curved text | Apply Curve first, then add the gradient |
| Make the text clickable | Put the link on a separate straight element |
| Take the bend off | Select the text, open Effects, choose Remove effect |
If Curve isn't showing for your Canva text
- Check you've selected the text box itself, not a group. Click the group, then the text inside it, or ungroup first.
- Look under the Shape heading rather than Style or Color.
- Make sure you're opening Effects from the text toolbar, which only appears when text is selected.
- Refresh the editor or update the app if the Effects button is missing altogether.
Canva also mentions separate advanced text apps in the editor for warping and distorting letters, but the built-in Curve effect covers most everyday logo and badge needs. If you're weighing the tool up overall, my Canva review and what to check first is a good place to start.
