To change your store name on Shopify, go to Settings, then General in your Shopify admin, click your store name in the Store contact details section, type the new name and click Save. You can do the same in the Shopify app. Shopify notes that changing the store name doesn't change your myshopify.com web address.
Rebranding, tidying up a name you picked in a hurry, or finally turning a side project into a real business? Changing your Shopify store name takes about a minute. What it doesn't do is change your web address or your logo, and that's where people get caught out. Here's how to change the name, and everything else you'll want to update so your brand looks consistent.
Change your store name on a computer
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then General.
- In the Store contact details section, click your store name.
- Type your new store name. You can update the store email and phone number here too.
- Click Save.
Change your store name in the Shopify app
- Open the Shopify app and tap the menu, then Settings.
- Under Store settings, tap General.
- In Store contact details, tap your store name.
- Edit the name and tap Save.
What changes, and what doesn't
| Changes with the store name | Doesn't change |
|---|---|
| The name customers see in your store and policies | Your myshopify.com address |
| The name on store contact details | Your custom domain |
| How your store is labelled in your admin | Your logo and theme text |
Shopify is clear on the big one: changing your store name doesn't change your default myshopify.com domain. Customers mostly see your custom domain anyway, but if your old name appears in that address, it stays there. If you're doing a full rebrand, you'll probably want a new custom domain too.
Your store details are public
Shopify points out that your store name, email and phone number are public, and customers might see them in your store and policy pages. So use the business name you want customers to see, and a customer service email address rather than your personal one.
Everything else to update after a rename
- Logo and favicon in your theme or the Store assets section of the General page.
- Text in your theme, such as the header, footer and About page.
- Email notifications, which often mention your store name in the wording.
- Social media profiles and links in bio.
- Your domain, if the old name is part of it.
- Policies, such as returns and privacy pages that name the business.
I'd make a quick list and tick these off on the same day. Nothing confuses customers more than one name on the website and another in the confirmation email.
Store name versus business details
The Settings, General page also has a Business details section for your legal business entity, which is separate from the store name customers see. Changing the friendly store name doesn't change your legal business details, and vice versa. Keep both accurate, because Shopify uses business details for things like taxes and legal requirements.
Be careful changing your store's country
While you're on the General page, don't change the store address country unless you've really moved. Shopify says your store address must be in the same country as your business entity address, and changing country can affect things like your store's language, tax and duty obligations, shipping availability and which Shopify products you can use.
Telling search engines and customers
A name change can confuse returning customers who search for your old name. Add a line to your About page and footer for a while, such as "formerly known as" with the old name, so people know they're in the right place. If you change your domain too, set up redirects from the old one so links in old emails, social posts and Google results still land on your store. That one step protects a lot of hard-won traffic and saves customers from landing on an error page.
Your myshopify.com address
Your myshopify.com address is the address Shopify created when you opened your store. Customers rarely see it if you use a custom domain, but it still appears in some places, such as your admin login. Shopify has separate guidance if you want to choose a new myshopify.com domain, but for most small businesses a good custom domain matters far more.

Choosing a good new name
- Keep it short, memorable and easy to spell.
- Check the matching domain name is available before you commit to anything.
- Make sure the matching social media handles are free.
- Avoid names that limit you to one product if you plan to grow.
Once the name's settled, think about how you'll tell existing customers. A short email explaining the change, and why, keeps their trust. If you're working on growth after the rebrand, my guide to ways to boost Shopify store sales is a good next read, along with my e-commerce website checklist.
My verdict
Settings, General, click your store name under Store contact details, change it and save. It doesn't change your myshopify.com address, so update your domain, logo, theme text, emails and social profiles on the same day to keep your brand consistent. Leave the store country alone unless you've really moved.
