How to Block a Page on Facebook (New Steps)

To block a Page on Facebook, open the Page, tap the three dots or More, tap Block and confirm. You can also go to Settings & privacy, Settings, Blocking, tap Add to blocked list and search for the Page. Blocking also unlikes and unfollows it, and stops it messaging, tagging or inviting you.

Some Facebook Pages just won't leave you alone: endless messages, tags in spammy posts, invites you never asked for. Blocking a Page shuts all of that down. The option has moved recently, which is why many people can't find it. Here's where to find it now and exactly what blocking does.

How to block a Page from the Page itself

  1. Go to the Facebook Page you want to block.
  2. Tap the three dots, or More.
  3. Tap Block.
  4. Tap Block again to confirm.

How to block a Page from your settings

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
  2. Scroll down, tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
  3. Under Audience and visibility, tap Blocking.
  4. Tap Add to blocked list and type the Page's name.
  5. Find the right Page in the results and tap Block.
  6. Tap Block again to confirm.

Why you can't block from a post any more

If you're used to blocking from the menu on a post, that's the change catching you out. Facebook says the Block option is no longer available directly from the post menu in Feed. You can still block from the Page itself or through your Blocking settings.

What happens when you block a Page

The Page can no longerNotes
See your postsYour posts are hidden from it
Tag youIn posts, comments or photos
Invite youTo events or groups
Start a conversation with youNo more messages from it

If you'd liked or followed the Page, Facebook says blocking will unlike and unfollow it automatically. One limit to know: blocking doesn't cover apps, games or groups you both take part in.

Got more than one Facebook profile?

Facebook says if you have additional profiles, you need to manage blocking from each one separately. Block the Page on your main profile, then switch to your other profile and block it there too.

How to unblock a Page

  1. Tap Menu, then Settings & privacy, then Settings.
  2. Under Audience and visibility, tap Blocking.
  3. Tap Unblock next to the Page.
  4. Tap Unblock to confirm.

Think before you unblock. Facebook says once you unblock a profile or Page, you can't block it again for a few days. Unblocking also doesn't re-like or re-follow the Page; you'd have to do that yourself. And the Page will be able to see your public posts again.

Block, unfollow or hide: which do you need?

If the problem is game requests, there's a specific setting for that. Here's how to block game invites on Facebook. And if you're wondering what people can see about your activity, our guide on whether Facebook has read receipts is worth a look.

Can't find the Page to block?

  • Search by the exact name. Pages with similar names are common, especially copycats.
  • Open it from a post. Tap the Page name on one of its posts to get to the right Page, then use the three dots.
  • Try your Blocking settings. Add to blocked list searches Pages as well as profiles.
  • Update the app. Menus move between versions.

Blocking a Page vs blocking a person

Blocking works the same way for Pages and personal profiles: you use the three dots or your Blocking settings, and the same limits apply. The big difference is that a Page usually represents a business or brand, so blocking it mostly stops promotions, messages and tags. Blocking a person also unfriends them if you're connected. If a Page belongs to someone you know personally, you may want to block their profile too, as they're managed separately.

When blocking isn't enough

If a Page is impersonating you, scamming people or posting harmful content, block it to protect yourself, then report it so Facebook can review it. Blocking stops the Page reaching you; reporting helps stop it reaching everyone else.

Blocking is quick to undo, but the few-day wait before you can block again is a good reason to be sure. If you're only mildly annoyed by a Page, unfollow it first. If it's still bothering you in a week, block it then.

My verdict

To block a Facebook Page, open it and use the three dots, or add it from Settings, Blocking. It instantly unlikes and unfollows the Page and stops it seeing your posts, tagging, inviting or messaging you. The post menu shortcut is gone, and if you unblock later, you'll wait a few days before you can block it again.
