How to remove content warning on X: Step by Step on X (Twitter), 2026

Go to Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety, then Content you see. Turn off the sensitive content warning toggle. If a warning appears on your own post, you likely ticked the sensitive media box when posting, so edit your media settings or delete and repost without flagging it as sensitive.

What the content warning does

X (formerly Twitter) shows a content warning when a post is flagged as containing sensitive media. This could be violence, nudity, or anything else the platform or the poster has marked as not suitable for everyone. The warning sits over the image or video until someone taps through it.

There are two separate things people mean when they ask about removing this warning. One is removing the warning from your own posts. The other is removing the warning screen when you are viewing other people's content. I will cover both.

Removing the warning from content you view

If you keep seeing warnings on other accounts' posts, this is controlled by your own display settings, not theirs. X lets you choose whether to see sensitive content without the warning screen.

  1. Open X and go to Settings and privacy.
  2. Tap Privacy and safety.
  3. Select Content you see.
  4. Find the option for displaying media that may contain sensitive content.
  5. Turn the toggle on to see this content without a warning screen.

Once this is switched on, posts flagged as sensitive will still show, but without the extra tap to reveal them. You can switch this off again at any time.

Removing the warning from your own posts

If your own posts are showing a sensitive content warning, it is because either you or X has flagged them. Check your own settings first.

Go to Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety, then Your posts. Look for a setting about marking media you post as containing material that might be sensitive. If this is switched on, every image or video you post will carry the warning by default, whether it needs it or not.

Turn this off if you do not want future posts automatically flagged. This will not fix a warning already on a post you have published. For that, you need to edit or remove the individual post.

Fixing a warning on a post you have already published

X does not let you edit media settings on a post that is already live in the same way you can before posting. Your realistic options are limited.

  1. Delete the post.
  2. Check your sensitive media setting is switched off, as above.
  3. Repost the same content without the sensitive flag applied.

This is a bit of a blunt approach, but it is the most reliable one. There is no hidden button that strips a warning from a post without reposting it.

When X applies the warning automatically

Sometimes you have not flagged anything yourself, but the warning still appears. This happens when X's own systems detect content it considers sensitive, based on the image or video itself rather than anything you ticked.

In this case, turning off your personal sensitive media setting will not remove it, because the flag has come from X's detection rather than your account preference. You can appeal this if you believe it has been wrongly applied, through X's reporting or support options, but there is no guarantee the appeal will change anything.

I will say this plainly: if X's systems have classified your media as sensitive, you cannot force the warning off through a settings toggle. The toggle only affects content flagged by the poster, not content flagged by the platform.

Age and account settings that affect warnings

Some warnings relate to account-level settings rather than individual posts. If your account is set up as a certain age category, or if you have not verified your age where required, this can affect what you see and what warnings appear on your own content.

Check Settings and privacy, then Your account, for any details about age settings or sensitive content preferences tied to the account itself rather than a single post. These settings can override individual toggles in some cases.

A few things to check before you assume it is broken

Before concluding the warning cannot be removed, check these:

Make sure you are logged into the correct account, especially if you manage more than one. Settings do not carry across accounts.

Check you have saved the settings change. Some toggles require you to back out of the menu fully for the change to apply, and a slow connection can sometimes mean the change does not save first time.

Log out and back in, or restart the app, if a setting you have changed does not seem to be reflected yet. This is a basic step but it does resolve a fair number of cases where the interface has not refreshed.

What to do if none of this works

If you have gone through settings, reposted content, and checked account-level options, and the warning still will not shift, this is likely a platform-level classification rather than a setting you control. X does not provide a way to override its own content classification through account settings.

Your remaining options are to contact X support directly through the app or website, explain the specific post and ask for a review, or accept that the warning will stay in place. I cannot promise a support request will result in a change, and I would rather tell you that now than have you waiting for an outcome that may not come.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove a content warning from someone else's post?

No. You can only change whether you see the warning screen, using your own Content you see settings. You cannot remove a warning that another account or X has applied to their post.

Why does my post still show a warning after I turned off sensitive media settings?

If the warning was applied by X's own detection rather than your account setting, turning off your toggle will not remove it. The post itself needs to be deleted and reposted, or the flag was applied by X and cannot be overridden by you.

Does deleting and reposting always remove the warning?

It usually does, provided your sensitive media setting is switched off and X has not independently classified the content as sensitive. If X's own systems flag it again, the warning will reappear.

Is there a way to appeal a content warning X has applied?

You can contact X support and ask for a review of the specific post. There is no guaranteed outcome, and X does not offer a simple settings toggle to override its own content classification.
