Google Pomelli is a Google Labs AI marketing tool for small businesses. Enter your website and it builds your Business DNA, your fonts, colours, values and images, then creates on-brand campaigns, product photos, short animations, simple websites and brand books. It's an English-only experiment for users aged 18 or over in supported countries, including the UK and US.
Google Pomelli is one of the few AI tools built squarely for small business marketing. You give it your website, it works out your brand, and then it suggests campaign ideas and makes on-brand social posts, product photos, short animations and even a simple website. For an owner who handles marketing between everything else, that's a lot of first drafts for very little effort.
Pomelli has grown a great deal since Google Labs first launched it. This guide follows Google's own help centre, so you know what it does today, how to set it up and where to be careful.
What is Google Pomelli?
Pomelli is an AI marketing tool from Google Labs, built with Google DeepMind, for small and medium-sized businesses. Google's help centre describes it as a tool that generates tailored, on-brand content to help grow a business. It's still an experiment, and Google says it'll keep improving it based on feedback.
The original idea works in three steps: build your Business DNA from your website, generate campaign ideas, then edit and create branded assets.
Who can use Pomelli?
- People aged 18 or over in supported countries and territories. Google's list runs to 202, including the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, India and Pakistan.
- English is the only supported language.
- Personal Gmail accounts always work. Google Workspace accounts may need an admin to switch it on.
- Websites with captchas or bot blocking may not work for the automatic brand scan.
Google says Pomelli is currently free and allows several hundred image and video generations, and that these caps may change.
How do I set up Pomelli?
- Go to Pomelli in Google Labs and select Let's go.
- Enter your website address.
- Wait while Pomelli analyses your site. Google says this can take up to eight minutes.
- Review your Business DNA: the fonts, colours, values and images Pomelli found.
- Correct anything that's off before you create campaigns.
No website? You can build your profile with the Pomelli Agent instead, by uploading up to 20 files of up to 25 MB each, such as PDFs, Word documents, presentations, images or audio, or by chatting with it. You can also start from a template. If you have a Google Business Profile, Pomelli can pull details from it for the first build, but the two don't stay in sync afterwards.
What can Pomelli create?
| Feature | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns | On-brand creatives built around a product, with editable header, description, image and call to action | Social posts for a launch or offer |
| Photoshoot | New on-brand images from a product photo, using up to six templates | Product shots without a studio |
| Animate | Turns a campaign creative into motion, in the 9:16 format only | Stories and Reels |
| Websites | Designs a simple website from your Business DNA, editable by prompt | A quick landing page |
| Brand Books | A brand guide with a cover and up to seven images, as a PDF or shareable link | Briefing designers and freelancers |
| Catalog | Your products or services, added from a product link or from scratch | Feeding campaigns and photoshoots |
How do I make a campaign in Pomelli?
You need a Business Profile first. Then pick a product from your Catalog, generate a campaign, review and edit the brief, and confirm. In the editor you can generate or swap the image, change the header, description and call to action, adjust the typography and use the Fix layout button. Campaign ingredients let you add up to three images and product information from a link.
The brief is where you get the best results. Pomelli generates from it, so tell it exactly who the post is for and what you want people to do.
Copy this prompt
Campaign brief: promote [product or service] to [audience] for [occasion or reason].
Main message: [one sentence]. Call to action: [what you want people to do].
Tone: [warm, playful, premium]. Avoid: [claims or words you never use].
How does Pomelli Photoshoot work?
Photoshoot turns a product photo into new on-brand images. You choose up to six preset or custom templates, then generate. The results can be animated and downloaded in formats such as MP4 or GIF, or saved back to your Business Profile or Catalog.
Google's own warning is worth repeating: AI can alter fine product details. Check labels, logos and colours carefully before anything goes live, especially for food, cosmetics or anything with regulated wording.
Copy and paste this prompt
Product: [name], photographed on [background].
Create lifestyle images showing it in use by [type of customer] in [setting],
keeping the label, colour and shape exactly as in the original photo.Work with meWant AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Where can I share Pomelli content?
Pomelli can send assets to connected apps. Google lists Google Ads, where sharing doesn't launch a campaign for you, and professional Instagram accounts, with Stories and Reels in 9:16 and posts in 4:5 or 1:1. You can also download your work. There's an option in Account Settings to add a watermark to exported images.
A simple first week with Pomelli
If you're short on time, this is how I'd get value from it without it eating your week:
- Day one: build your Business DNA and fix anything that doesn't feel like you.
- Day two: add your three best-selling products or services to the Catalog.
- Day three: generate one campaign per product and edit the briefs until the message is right.
- Day four: run a Photoshoot on your strongest product photo and check every detail.
- Day five: export a Brand Book and save it where your freelancers and team can find it.
By the end you'll know whether Pomelli fits your routine, and you'll have a small bank of on-brand posts ready to schedule. If it doesn't fit, you've still gained a clearer picture of how your brand comes across online, which is worth having either way.
Is Pomelli worth using for a small business?
For a solo owner or a small team, I think it's worth an afternoon. The Business DNA step alone is a useful exercise, because it shows you how consistently your website presents your brand. The campaign drafts are a fast way past the blank page.
The cautions are the usual ones for AI design tools. It's an experiment, so features and limits change. Check every image for altered product details. And keep your own judgement on the message: Pomelli can make a post look on-brand, but you know what your customers need to hear.
If you're comparing it with other options for product imagery, I've rounded up AI image generators for marketing product shots.
Tools that work with Pomelli
Pomelli connects directly to Google Ads and professional Instagram accounts, and it can draw on your Google Business Profile when you set up. Around it, Canva is useful for final design tweaks, Meta Business Suite or Buffer for scheduling the posts you make, and Google Drive for keeping your Brand Book and exported assets together.
