Creator Rewards isn't open in Zimbabwe, and TikTok Shop isn't listed there either. The documented route is LIVE Gifts, with Diamonds withdrawn in US dollars through PayPal or another channel, then credited in whichever currency your bank uses.
Before you spend months making videos for money TikTok may never send you, ask yourself three questions. Does the app run a payment programme in Zimbabwe? What currency will the money arrive in, and what can you do with it? And can your account meet the age and identity rules? Here's what I found when I checked each one.
Question one: is there a pay programme for Zimbabwe at all?
The main one, the Creator Rewards Program, is listed by TikTok for eight countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil. To take part you must be based in one of them with an account registered there. Zimbabwe isn't on that list, so you can't apply from a Zimbabwean account.
TikTok Shop is the same story. Its seller site's region menu runs from the United States and Mexico through Southeast Asia to a group of European markets, and Zimbabwe doesn't appear. I'm reporting that as 'not listed', since TikTok hasn't announced anything about Zimbabwe either way.
What's left is LIVE. TikTok's Virtual Items Policy has a separate version for creators who live outside the EEA, UK and India, and that's the one that covers Zimbabwe. Viewers buy Coins, send you Gifts, and you collect Diamonds, which can be withdrawn as cash denominated in US dollars.
Question two: which money will you be holding, ZiG or US dollars?
This is the part that's different here. Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) became the official currency on 8 April in 2024, replacing the Zimbabwean dollar that ran from 2019 to 2024. According to Wikipedia, the US dollar remains widely used alongside it, and foreign currencies are still legal tender. The same article says the share of transactions in US dollars fell from 85% to 70% after the ZiG launch.
For a TikTok creator, that cuts both ways. A payout calculated in US dollars lands in a currency that most of your customers still understand, which is a real advantage over countries where dollar income has to be converted into a falling local currency. But the ZiG is the official unit, and shops, tax and some wages may use it, so ask your bank how it will credit a PayPal or other foreign payment, and in which currency.
Question three: do you meet the age, name and identity rules?
- Age: TikTok requires 18 or the age of majority in your jurisdiction for receiving Gifts and withdrawing Diamonds. In Zimbabwe that's 18.
- Name: the first and last name on your TikTok payment details must exactly match your PayPal account.
- Identity: TikTok reserves the right to verify your identity and age before paying.
- Tax: TikTok may deduct applicable taxes, and says it can't give you personal tax advice.
I couldn't open an official page confirming the follower count for LIVE, so open your own app and see whether the LIVE option is there. If it isn't, your account isn't eligible yet.
What the same 'no' looks like across Africa
If you're comparing notes with creators elsewhere on the continent, the pattern is similar. My guides to TikTok payouts in Uganda and getting paid on TikTok in Ghana describe the same eight-country list and the same rest-of-world LIVE rules. Ghana has an extra twist, since a local bank has publicly asked to become a payment channel, but nothing like that exists for Zimbabwe that I can verify.
Earning while the official doors stay shut
Here's what I'd try in order:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Choose a niche people pay for in Harare, Bulawayo or Mutare: hair and beauty, farming advice, music, church media, small-business tips or property.
- Ask local businesses whether they'd pay in US dollars for short videos, since the currency is still widely used there.
- Turn on LIVE the moment it appears, and sell your own products or services in the stream.
- Send viewers to WhatsApp so a view becomes an enquiry.
- Keep a second income stream off TikTok, so one policy change doesn't wipe out your month.
For contrast, my page on what TikTok pays per 1,000 views in South Africa shows how much of the internet's earnings advice doesn't carry over to countries outside the programme.
Zimbabwe route check
| Route | Available in Zimbabwe? | Source checked |
|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards Program | No, Zimbabwe isn't on the list of eight | TikTok Creator Academy |
| TikTok Shop | Not on the seller region menu | TikTok Shop seller site |
| LIVE Gifts and Diamonds | Covered by the rest-of-world policy, if eligible | TikTok Virtual Items Policy |
| Payout currency | US dollars, converted by your PayPal or bank | TikTok Virtual Items Policy |
| Brand deals | Yes, agreed directly | Not a TikTok programme |
Things that go wrong
The usual traps are paying someone to 'switch on' monetisation, buying views to look bigger, and giving out your login. TikTok says paid or fraudulent views aren't counted for rewards, and no agent can add Zimbabwe to a list that only TikTok controls. If a payment ever looks odd, keep screenshots, check the name on your account, and speak to your bank before spending it.
Frequently asked questions
Can Zimbabweans join the TikTok Creator Rewards Program?
No. TikTok lists eight countries for the programme and Zimbabwe isn't among them.
Does TikTok pay in US dollars or ZiG in Zimbabwe?
TikTok's policy denominates Diamond withdrawals in US dollars. How the money is credited, in US dollars or ZiG, depends on your PayPal account or bank.
Is TikTok Shop open to sellers in Zimbabwe?
Zimbabwe isn't listed on the TikTok Shop seller site's region menu, so I can't point you to an official route.
What age do I need to be to withdraw TikTok Diamonds in Zimbabwe?
TikTok requires 18 or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, and in Zimbabwe that's 18.
What is ZiG and does it affect my TikTok money?
ZiG is Zimbabwe Gold, the official currency since 2024. Because your TikTok payout is calculated in US dollars, the question is how your bank converts or credits it.
