Gemini Scheduled Actions: How to Set Up Recurring Prompts

Gemini scheduled actions let you run a prompt automatically every day, week or month, with the answer ready at a time you choose. You type the request and the timing into a normal Gemini chat, and Gemini sets up the schedule. You can have up to 10 active at once, and Keep Activity must be on.

It's the closest thing Gemini has to a personal assistant who does the same job for you every morning. Google's help page covers the rules and a few traps, like stale stock prices. Here's how to set one up and get good use from it, checked on Google's own pages as of October 2026.

What you need

  • A personal Google Account, or a work or school account on a qualifying Google Workspace edition.
  • Keep Activity turned on. Google says the feature isn't available when it's off.
  • A plan that includes it: Google's feature table lists scheduled actions on Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra, not the free version.
  • Patience if it's missing: Google says it's rolling out gradually to personal accounts.

How to schedule an action

  1. Open Gemini and start a new chat.
  2. Type your prompt, including when and how often it should run, such as every weekday at 7am.
  3. Click Submit. Gemini replies with a summary of the schedule.
  4. Check the summary is right. If not, click More, then Edit, or just tell Gemini what to change in the same chat.
  5. Find all your schedules on the Scheduled page in the sidebar, where you can also create new ones.

If the action uses another app, such as Gmail or Calendar, that app has to be connected to Gemini first.

Timing: the detail people miss

Gemini doesn't run your prompt at the exact minute you pick. Google says it prepares the content within the hour before your delivery time, so it's ready on time. The catch is that fast-moving information, like share prices, won't be the latest by the time you read it. Google says schedules work best for daily summaries and wrap-ups, not live data.

Managing your schedules

To do thisDo this
Pause or resumeScheduled page, hover over the schedule, More, then Pause or Resume
EditClick the schedule on the Scheduled page, update the form and Save, or click Go to chat
DeleteHover over the schedule, More, then Delete
Change locationCreate a new schedule or name the location in your prompt
Restart one that stoppedTurn it on again; Google says unused schedules can switch off after inactivity

The location point is easy to miss. Google says a location-based schedule, like a weather report, keeps using the place where you created it. If you set it up on holiday, it'll keep sending that town's weather.

Writing a schedule prompt that works

  1. Put the timing in the prompt itself. Google's tip is to say when and how often you want the action to run.
  2. Name the place if location matters, such as a weather report for a specific city, because Gemini otherwise uses where you created it.
  3. Connect the app first if the prompt reads your email or calendar, or the schedule can't see it.
  4. Ask for a summary or wrap-up rather than live figures, since Gemini prepares the answer up to an hour early.
  5. Keep the output short and scannable, such as a list of five items, so you'll read it every time.

Google's own list of ideas goes beyond work, too: a daily weather forecast paired with outfit ideas from a list of your clothes, a daily practice quiz for a language or skill, and a weekly rollup of new local cafes to try at the weekend. They're a good sign of how flexible the feature is.

How you're told it's ready

  • On the web: the schedule's chat shows as unread in the sidebar and on the Scheduled page.
  • On your phone: you get a notification from the Gemini app, which may show on your lock screen depending on your settings.

Gemini does more than chat, and Project Genie is one of the stranger examples.

Scheduled prompts for small business owners

Google's ideas include daily digests of your calendar, to-do list and emails, daily topic tracking and weekly news digests. Here are versions you can copy and change:

Monday morning planner

Copy this prompt

Every Monday at 7am, look at my Google Calendar for this week and list my client meetings, any deadlines and two blocks of free time I could use for focused work.

Weekly industry roundup

Copy this prompt

Every Friday at 4pm, give me a short roundup of the most important news this week about email marketing and social media for small businesses, with one idea I could turn into a post.

Daily inbox triage

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Every weekday at 8am, check my Gmail for unanswered emails from clients in the last 24 hours and list them with a one-line summary of what each person needs.

Monthly content prompt

Copy this prompt

On the first day of every month, suggest four blog post ideas for a small marketing consultancy, based on questions people are asking this month.

Keep to the limit of 10 active schedules by pausing ones you only need in busy seasons. For more ways to use Gemini at work, see my guide to using Gemini in a small business, and if you'd like reusable instructions instead of timed ones, try Gemini Gems.

My verdict

Scheduled actions are one of the most practical things in Gemini's paid plans, because they turn a prompt you'd forget to run into a habit. Start with one Monday planner and one weekly roundup, and only add more once you're reading them.
