How to Use Gemini for Small Business: The New Business Hub

Gemini for small business is a new business landing page inside the Gemini app, announced by Google on 20 October 2026. From it you can save your brand style for on-brand visuals, connect apps such as Google Business Profile, Shopify, Canva and Xero, and turn messy spreadsheets or receipts into clear charts. Google says it's rolling out globally to all Gemini app users in the coming days.

Google says tens of millions of small business owners already use Gemini to brainstorm products, handle customer feedback and look at performance. On 20 October 2026 it gave them their own front door: a dedicated business hub, new marketing and finance skills, and a longer list of connected apps.

Here's what's in it, based on Google's announcement, how I'd set it up in your first half hour, and prompts that make each part worth your time. If the rollout hasn't reached your account yet, bookmark this and come back.

Google says the business landing page, the marketing and finance skills and the new connected apps are rolling out globally in the coming days for all Gemini app users. Larger teams that need admin controls and data governance are pointed to Gemini for business, which is a separate offer.

Step 1: set your brand style first

Do this before anything else, because everything visual depends on it. Google says you can define your brand style by uploading your website, brand kit, fonts or colour palettes, and that Gemini retains it. That's the fix for the biggest frustration with AI images: every picture looking like it came from a different company.

If you don't have a formal brand kit, your website is enough to start. Then test it with something low-stakes:

Copy this prompt

Using my saved brand style, create three social images announcing (your news or offer).
Keep my colours and fonts, leave space for a short headline, and don't add any text I haven't given you.
Headline: (your headline).

Check the first results against your real brand before you post anything. If the colours drift, upload the palette file directly rather than relying on the website alone.

Step 2: connect the apps you already use

The connected apps are where this stops being a chatbot and starts being an assistant. The list Google gives covers Google Business Profile, Google Ads, Google Workspace, Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero. Connect only what you'll use this month; you can add more later.

Google's own example is a single-location restaurant owner in New Jersey who uses Gemini with a connected Business Profile between shifts to track local search and Maps performance and plan weekend updates around neighbourhood events. That's a good model for any local business:

Copy this prompt

Look at my Google Business Profile performance for the last month.
Tell me in plain English what changed in searches and Maps views, and which day of the week was strongest.
Then suggest three Business Profile updates for this weekend tied to (local event or season).

Step 3: hand it your messiest spreadsheet

Google says Gemini can turn messy spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records into clear financial graphics and interactive models in seconds. Most small businesses have one file nobody wants to open. Start there.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Here's my sales export for the last quarter. Clean it up and show me a simple chart by month and by product.
Then list the three things you'd want me to look at, in plain language.
Flag any rows you weren't sure how to read instead of guessing.

That last instruction matters. Ask it to flag what it can't read rather than fill the gaps, and check any figure you'll act on against the source file.

Step 4: use it for the writing you keep putting off

One owner Google features, a ceramicist in Bordeaux, uses Gemini for product descriptions, newsletters and social hooks, and says it saves her two to three hours a day. That's the realistic sweet spot: first drafts in your voice that you then edit.

Copy this prompt

Write a product description for (product) in the tone of my website.
Lead with what it's for, then two details a buyer would care about, then one line on care or use.
Under 120 words. No exaggerated claims.

If you want more ready-made prompts, my list of Gemini prompts for business owners has dozens by task.

What to watch out for

  • Rollout timing. Google says the features arrive over the coming days, so you may not see the business page straight away.
  • Connected app access. Each connection lets Gemini see that app's data. Connect the accounts you're comfortable sharing, and review them in settings.
  • Figures need checking. Charts from receipts and spreadsheets are a fast first read, not your accounts. Your bookkeeper still has the final say.
  • Images need a human eye. On-brand doesn't mean on-message. Read every visual before it goes out.

Gemini skills and the bigger picture

The marketing and finance tools arrive as skills, the same building blocks Google has been moving Gemini towards. If you haven't used them yet, my guide to Gemini skills explains how they work, and my Gemini beginner's guide covers the basics if you're new to the app.

My verdict: this is the most useful Gemini update for small businesses this year, mainly because of brand style and Business Profile. Set the brand style, connect two apps, and give it one real job this week. If you'd like help building it into how your business works day to day, that's what I do in my one-to-one AI sessions.
